They do so care.
And if you don't believe me, then I don't care.
One elder just last week asked me why I had missed the book study. "Not feeling well?" he suggested after a moment of silence. "No, I was fine, I replied" and just looked at him straight in the eye for a few seconds. That was kind of awkward, but it was over soon enough and then he said that he would see me later anyway. Don't know what he must have thought.

Yes they do. They care about you and me. And the entire human race too. There are people dying, but if we care enough for the living, we'll make a better place for you and for me. Heal the system of things, make it a better place, for you and the WT society.
i wandered into a "christian" book store the other day, i was out of town on business, not sure that i would do it in my own town, where i might get spotted and ratted on to the elders.. i bought a copy of one of william barclay's book, a study of john's gospel.. as i read it, i keep thinking how good it is compared with the watchtower!
the society bangs on about the abundance of spiritual food but i find the watchtower and most other society literature shallow and unchallenging.
i can speed read a watchtower in about 5 minutes and still keep abreast with "new light".. this guy, barclay, however really knew his stuff and was not afraid to go into detail.
Granted, Barclay's books are very readable, but I think that his skepticism towards the veracity of the Bible cannon negates much of the apparent value of his work. He believed in the source theory concerning the books of Moses and did not believe that 2 Peter was written by the apostle.
To those of you who point out that his writing is of better quality than those of the faithful steward, I would say that I consider it more important that a writer believes unreservedly that the Bible is inspired of God than any ability he has in displaying good stylistic qualities.
it was only the 70s that smoking was banned wasn't it?
so i was wondering of anyone has any pictures of and of the watchtower leaders smoking before that.
was russell or rutherford a puffer?

What about all the govening body memebers, surely one or two of them smoked before the rule was introduced. Has anyone got any information on this?

silentlambs has provided the folowing numbers:.
increase of average publishers:
usa 3% (last year 1%)
107 742 divided by 107 281 does not equal 1.00489.
Try again.

has anyone seen the new figures in the jan 1st watchtower - i have.
what do you think about them?.
can't argue with that, ballistic. but if we are comparing with recent years, then it is an improvement (normative view of course). i suspect that the rate of growth in world population is not much above 2.8% (the increase in JWs) though. have you got any idea about that figure, i would be interested to know.
As I have said before, those who try to "blame" the increase on 9/11 are ingnoring inconvenient fact that JWs did better almost everywhere last year, not just in America or in the so-called coalition against terror countires. For instance, Russia increased 6% this year, compared with only 4% last year. I am also not convinced that the people in Italy, Spain, France, Norway, and Portugal were so affected by the terrible events in New York so that the persistent decreases in JWs would sudenly turn into increases.
It cannot simply be inactive ones returning either, because baptisms are up, and bible studies are up almost 8%.
Let's just accept the fact, JWs, once again, are on the increase.

Wrong, baptisms are up.
Last year: 263 431
This year: 265 469
True, a modest increase of 0.8%, but it does show that the growth cannot simply be attributed to the so-called 15 minute rule. Pioneers, hours, and memorial attendance are all up.
What is the real indicator that Jehovah's Witnesses are again on the increase is the big jump in the number of Bible studies, which are up 7.9% worldwide.
Those who claim that the increase is largely due to 9/11 are left with the problem that the increase includes countires that have very little to do with it, or the "war on terror". France, for instance, which has been decreasing seriously for tears (last year -2%), is up 1% this year.
Canada was up 1% too.
Apostates will be loath to admit it, but Jehovah's Witnesses are once again on the increase, and the big jump in Bible Studies and more pioneers out there, the increase looks bound to last a few years at least.
