Great summary, Londo. Rather than being so overt, the sneaky nature of some of these things makes the WT all the more dangerous.

Spanking VS. Reasoning
by SpeedRacer ini am having a discussion at work with the jw's.
should you spank a child to make them understand or do you reason with them.
they both agree with spanking.

When you swat at a child and he immediately strikes back, that is a direct response to your use of force.
Regarding running into traffic, retrieving the child from danger, holding them tightly while forcing them to look at you and telling them, "No! The street is dangerous!" and allowing them to hear the urgency in your voice is just as effective and teaches them the reason why.
Why are parents allowing their children to be so close to the street, anyhow? Aren't they supervising? I once had my 3 year old go to step off the curb at a shopping center while we were heading back to our car just a split second before me when a car came speeding around the corner. I grabbed him by the hood of his winter coat and yanked him up to safety while his little feet were still walking in the air! A stern, "No!" and hearing the fear in my voice and seeing the fear in my eyes was better than what any spanking could have done.

I swore I would never spank and then had a child who was a holy terror. I ended up swatting him on the butt out of frustration until he started hitting me back at age 3.
I was horrified when I realized that I had taught him that by my example. The spanking stopped abruptly.

Timber rattlesnakes exist in New York state, mostly in the southeast, but are listed as "Threatened" by the New York Department of Environmental Conservation.

He already has his mind made up and then pretends he wants to have a discussion.
Well, since you've already made your mind up, then surely nothing I could say would matter.

At my son's school, black socks and sandals worn with shorts are all the rage! I didn't believe him and made him change several times until I went to visit the school one day and all the teenage boys were wearing them! I mean they looked just like the picture above, except they wore slide in sandals with no backs. (And their legs weren't quite as hairy! )
They must do it deliberately to irritate their elders. Just like that multicolored bowling shoe craze about ten years ago. Just pick the things your parents think are the ugliest and make them cool. We didn't do that, did we?

Female Perspective about WTS, marital relationship & control
by Muddy Waters indespite my user name, am female.
i was not born-in, began studying when i was around 20, am 50 damn years old now and have spent almost the last 30 years in that stupid religion.
but here are some observations, make of them what you will.

Thanks, Muddy. That gives me some insight into the 'loss of control' type of behaviors I have seen in my parents' relationship.
If you were drawn to the religion to gain a feeling of control over your life, that must feel terrifying.

Reverse Shunning
by exwhyzee insometing happened yesterday that i thought might be noteworty enough to relate to you here.. mrs. eyz and i were invited to my new boss's home for his annual end of summer party.
it's a pretty big deal....his is a name known locally (i'll call him j.r.) a really nice interesting guy who's held a number of high level and politically connected jobs.
there was to be music, dancing, wine and reprotedly lots of well dressed, well educated, well to do and influential people (oh yes...and us) in attendance.. anyway we thought we'd make an occasion out of it and got ourselves spiffed up which involved new outfits and extra mirror time before we left home.

Which flag will fly in the morning? This was the question asked by a young man as he was held prisoner on a British ship during the battle of Baltimore 200 years ago last night.
The British were aiming to take the city of Baltimore, but were receiving heavy fire from Fort McHenry 6 miles down the bay from Baltimore Harbor.
That young man, named Francis Scott Key, looked desperately through "the rockets red glare" to see whether "the flag was still there."
"Does that star spangled banner yet wave?" he wanted to know. And "by the dawn's early light" it was clear that the stars and stripes still flew over Fort McHenry, not the union jack as he and the other Baltimoreans had feared.
Francis Scott Key penned a poem to express his emotions from that night on this day 200 years ago. This poem was set to music and has become the United States' national anthem.
Last night in Baltimore we saw the Star Spangled Spectacular celebration during which fireworks were exploded from Baltimore's Inner Harbor all the way to Fort McHenry. It was deafening, and it likely sounded exactly like it did on the same night 200 years previous when there were "bombs bursting in air" and when the question was, 'Which flag will be flying in the morning?'
I wonder the same about Edinburgh this week. Which flag will be flying on Friday morning?
