Just a short observation on self inflicted misery.
by Human Being ini used to post on this site a few years back but after moving on personally and being shunned by my only remaining family member for the last 4-5 years i the j.w's became just background noise to me.
yet yesterday something happened that brought back to me the degree of control this cult has over it's members.
a new wall mart recently opened in my little mountain town here in northern georgia, u.s. as i headed across the parking lot on my way into the store the heat was intense, wit a humidity factor of around 90%.

Good point on the liability issue. WT has done a good job on insulating themselves from liability on behalf of the publishers, but if one of them does have a medical emergency and an ambulance gets called to the front entrance of Walmart, would Walmart have any liability? I think it would, at the very least, be a PR issue. -

Is The Watchtower Corporation Getting Ready For A Huge International Fire Sale?
by Brokeback Watchtower inwith all this talk about selling existing kingdom halls and robbing the congregations of savings accounts.
massive relocation of headquarters selling over a billion in prime real estate, gobbling up property and getting all the free labor they can from the rank and file slaves to fix up these properties and donate more and more money to cover the cost.. it looks like they are in the process of some type cannibalization of its self in an effort of self preservation.. are we on the cusps of a giant fire sale as the lawsuits pile up and build pressure i suspect things will get far worse leaving many congregations kingdom halless and traveling greater distances just to make a meeting every once and a while when they have enough gas money.. with a royal charities commission inquiry into inappropriate conduct of the wt corporation and loss of charity status and the eventual loss of such operational status in one country after another things are looking very bleak for this end of the world jehovah scam cult with it 1914,1975,2000, expiration dates long past..

Yep, Searcher, and the True Believers will just accept any explanation because they simply HAVE to believe.
"Consolidation" might be the new "simplification."

Why would they not just open an umbrella over their heads? Or put up one of those EZ Up canopies? Even the Girl Scouts selling cookies are smart enough to do that!
It doesn't take long to get dehydrated in that kind of heat, especially if you're elderly.

Shunning is unloving because it hurts. Love doesn't hurt. -

If you were told today you would die next week, would you be happy and fine with that?
by EndofMysteries ini don't know how so many who seem to be certain this life is it after being jw's seem to happily accept it and be fine with it.
i am living and trying to live as if this is it.
i want there to be a future life/afterlife, something, but i see how fast life comes and goes and even if i'm living it to the fullest, there is no peace for me with the thought this may be it.

The only thing I'm worried about is leaving my son behind. I guess once you become a parent you always and forever feel responsible for that child.
I think I could be ancient and he could be middleaged and I'd still be afraid to leave him. His life is my job.

Are the Governing Body Members Mentally Ill?
by Oubliette indata-dog: i believe that many of them would actually be considered mentally ill, if they were ever tested.. .
great question and intriguing hypothesis.
lets take an armchair psychologists view and see what we shall see.

Delusions are given some leeway in diagnosis if it's a sincerely held religious belief.
For example, believing a loved one is watching over one from heaven.
Don't know if this would apply to the belief of living forever or not.

Once dated a JW guy. Against my better judgment. We talked really honestly about everything that was wrong with the organization. We complained about all the rules that we were breaking.
I finally said that I couldn't be a hypocrite and be part of the org when I hated everything they stand for. His response?
"Why not be a hypocrite? You do everything else!"
He would have made a great elder, but he didn't live long enough. He refused a blood transfusion and died after being in an automobile accident only a few years later.
