Metatron, that's what I've been thinking as well. I think they are going to dump the Watchtower as a magazine and disavow any association with the word.

Expect more Crazy as JW.ORG trims the fat and fills the coffers.
by donuthole inwhen rutherford assumed the presidency of the watchtower society he instituted series of sweeping changes to the teachings and practices of the bible students.
some of these changes were at complete odds with what had been taught previously.
a key example was the elevation of the watchtower society as "god's visible organization on earth".

Sadly, the election and, even more so, the reelection of President Obama has brought out the extreme faction of racists in this country. They also tend to be virulently religious and have taken the political discourse to the far right.
For the first time in my life, after hearing about people being fired from their jobs because they had Obama bumper stickers displayed on their vehicles, I have felt afraid to voice my support for a candidate. I equally feel unsafe stating that I am not religious. To state that you are an atheist would be to invite danger in some conservative quarters, like the area where I now live. Thus, the term agnostic is extremely useful in the US right now.
All because of racism towards the first black president.

Atlanta Int Convention 2014:The Big Party. Does this look like WT believes Armageddon is coming "soon"?
by AndDontCallMeShirley inhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=potrr2qxhue.
.. if armageddon is "imminent", why is wt focused on sight-seeing, entertainment, travel, etc.
instead of preaching and saving people??.

Magnum, there were pioneers. But, they were either wives supported by their husbands, young people supported by their parents or retired folks with pensions.
I think when those types of talks about Can you do more since we are so close to the end? were given, they were taken at face value as a question and the answer in these parts was No, I can't do it personally since I have a family and a mortgage, but I could support my wife in doing so or my adult child in doing so. And, I can always pioneer when I retire.
I grew up in Pennsylvania circuit #5. This is the next state over from New York. Is it because we're closer to headquarters? I don't know where you live, but is it a regional thing?
I have lots of questions about this, but I'm beginning to understand that despite their claims of absolute unity and its proof of divine blessing, this is just like any other organization in that it is affected by regional and cultural differences.

I think one thing I ve learned from this thread is that JWdom is practiced somewhat differently in different places. Honestly, that house did not shock me. Plenty of JWs in my parents hall have homes like this. Many own their own little business empires. The area I grew up in had few pioneers. Everyone owned their own homes, modest though they were. It wasnt considered untheocratic to do so or to have a decent job, though most wives did stay home in the 70s and 80s.
I just never saw people giving up everything to pioneer, though they were very zealous in meetings and weekend service. My dad was an elder who had a good job and was able to retire at age 60. He now pioneers. He's always owned a home. He raised 3 kids and my mother stayed at home. She did not pioneer, but she was and still is obsessed with the WT.
But, more I hang out on this forum the more I realize that as dysfunctional as my upbringing was, I was spared the worst of the craziness.

It's funny that folks can't tell what they smell like even when they're right under their own noses.
Lemons? Are you sure some little old white lady wasn't wearing some rancid old cologne that smelled...lemony? Or is this a bigger pattern? Do white ladies prefer perfume "with a burst of citrus?" Do white men smell lemony, too? Is it their aftershave preference? So many questions!
"Oh, by Jiminy, whites smell lemony!"

A Thread for Cyclists - Where Do you Ride?
by cofty ini took up cycing a couple of months ago just to get fitter and lose a bit of excess weight.. i bought a second-hand hybrid bike (weighs only slightly less than a truck) and fitted road tyres.
four or five times a week i will go for a ride after work for an hour or so.
i am fortunate enough to live in rural north england surrounded by limitless quiet roads.

Sparrowdown, I am so jealous of your bike trail. That sounds absolutely beautiful! Complete with a candy striped lighthouse! Can you actually get close to it? Climb to the top?
I just love lighthouses!

Cofty, I just did the math and if it took you 80 minutes to do 18 miles then that is a 4.4 minute mile. Not bad for a hilly ride!
My hubby was averaging about that until he bought the racing bike. Then he broke the 4 minute mile mark without any extra effort. It really is about the bike.
That is, if you're into speed. Some of us are just trying to see the sights and get a little moderate exercise. It's all about what you want to get out of it.

The smart thing was heading into the wind first. Always save the easiest leg for last!
Our household has been consumed by cycling in the last year. When my husband injured his back he could no longer run so he has taken up cycling since recovering from spinal fusion surgery 2 years ago.
He has gone through several bikes because he's biking longer and longer distances. This past autumn he got up to 25 mile round trips, so a couple months ago he splurged on a much more difficult to destroy bike than the others. It is a Giant bike that is made of aluminum and carbon fiber and cost a riduculous amount of money (over $1000). However, it is much more sturdy and he immediately was able to beat the 4 minute mile mark both because of the reduced weight and the better road tires! It also has an improved rider position since it is built for racing.
Have you measured your mile rate? Or is it just in good fun?
Just 3 weeks ago, he completed his first 40 mile race! I am so proud of him! His goal is to do a 60 mile race this summer and a Century at the end of September. I have no doubt he can do it. The 100 mile race is on relatively flat land near the coast.
This from a man who had a broken back two years ago! When that man sets his mind to something, you can be sure he will do it.
Me? I'm on my second level of bicycle now. It's a Diamondback road bike with an upright riding position great for cruising and seeing the sights. I can go much farther distances on this than the Walmart special I had before. Sometimes we ride together on the local bike trail, but I often feel like I'm holding him back.
Our state has a rails-to-trails program where old abandoned rail line rights-of-way are bought and changed to walking / biking trails. It makes for nice traffic free riding.
I would love to see more photos of your journeys. It seems you live in some beautiful country. Cycling is a great way to travel and sightsee as well as get nonimpact exercise at the same time.
Happy cruising,

The article says that some people believe Eisenhower's family were Mennonite rather than Jehovah's Witnesses. That's surprising to me. I remember years ago taking the tour of his farmhouse in Gettysburg and seeing old JW literature all over the place.
