Lawrence Onoda, Ph.D., Jehovah's Witness Psychologist
by Maryo inin about 1980 i came to know of and meet one time with lawrence onoda, ph.d., a jehovah's witness psychologist [also i think elder] in southern california.
i was shocked to know there was such a thing in view of the wts traditional stance against jws consulting such a person!
he had been one of jws for six years at that time, i recall.

Yeah, I don't know how they get away with that release signing. I'll bet it wouldn't hold up in court. -

I once saw a JW psychologist. This was near the Washington DC area.
Before treatment, she made me sign a release stating that any admissions of sins I made would be reportable to the elders!
I don't even know if it's legal to sign away the right of confidentiality with your healthcare provider!
But, I was a dumb young adult. I didn't see her too many times. I finally found real mental health care with a qualified non-JW!

I read this last night and thought it sounded fishy. (Eleven elderly sisters showed up, stayed while you went out and bought them donuts, tried to fix you up and then stayed another hour talking about their problems with the organization loudly enough that you could hear in the next room, including convincing the others to change their wills?)
And now I read that others are thinking the same.
It's so easy to believe things because we want them to be true.

I almost died laughing at the meeting last night. OMG WTF is going on? Have I been away this long?
by macys inok so most of you guys know already that i am going through the reinstatement process for my parents but i do have a partially sinister plan which i will not mention here since someone told me that there are b-lites that read boards like this.
last night and it was the funniest experience i have ever seen.
besides that the brother doing the sound and video screwed up the whole thing when showing the videos and it took 3 brothers to fix it after 10 minutes, the whole thing was a joke.

I hate that all the men are on the left and all the women are on the right in that video.
But, I like the muscles bursting through the suitcoat of the guy in the front row, left end. :)

What is your relationship with ALCOHOL?
by nicolaou inhere in the uk new drinking guidelines have been issued which suggest "no more than 14 units a week - equivalent to six pints of beer or seven glasses of wine.".
another piece of the advice which is getting a lot of attention is that "if people drink, it should be moderately over three or more days and that some days should be alcohol-free.".
already people are making cries of "nanny state!

My understanding is that addictions involve the dopamine system in the brain. This is the pleasure / reward chemical. Addicts have a very strong, positive dopamine response to pleasureable stimulii.
A non-addict produces an average amount of dopamine, the pleasure chemical, to a pleasureable stimulus, such as alcohol.
Under this model, the addict produces huge amounts of pleasureable dopamine to a stimulus, such as alcohol, and this fuels further pleasure-seeking. Alcohol becomes so rewarding that it can't be refused.
This is not the only model for addiction.
This is my layman's understanding.

Not a drinker. Alcohol makes me feel agitated. I keep hearing about people who drink to "relax," but it makes me feel like climbing the walls.
Xanax works for relaxation, though. :)

I have one thing for you to think about. Please never put your children in this situation:
My father was going into surgery. He refused blood. The Hospital Liason Committee was in the pre- op area. Thehywere the witnesses on his Medical Power of Attorney stating that he refused blood. I was NOT a decision maker even in the event of emergency.
Please don't ever make your children hear this conversation:
Doctor: " So, you are refusing blood even in the case that such refusal would lead to your death"
Dad: "That is correct."
Doctor: "Please sign this waiver."
Dad: Signs waiver.
Me: "I love you, Daddy!" Gives him a kiss on the cheek.
Doctor: wheels dad away
Please, please, please, never make one of your children go through that! It nearly broke my heart.
