Hey, what ever happened to Leolaia? Haven't seen her post in a LONG time. I hope she is ok. Her posts were some of the very best, well thought out, researched, and thought provoking. Truly scholarly.

May I suggest, that your families attempt to spiritually manipulate you has now failed, they know it's failed, they know you're not coming back, so now they are "playing the victims", and also victim shaming you? May I also suggest that your mother is a Narcissist, and loves the attention and pity party she receives from her "spiritual family?"
Pale, I've been following your story ever since you joined this forum. Your ex-wife, JW family, etc are toxic, absolutely toxic assholes. I would never, EVER let me kids around them unsupervised. That would be my condition of seeing my kids, that it would be supervised by me. They would NOT treat me as a sub-human being as they do you, and still get the "privilege" of seeing my kids. F' them!
The only person even salvageable in your situation is possibly your brother. He is not fully "in" yet it seems, and your planting of seeds and making him think may prove very productive. The fact that he calls you in "secret" even though he knows by JW standards he not supposed to, is very promising.
So your mom blocked your #? Feel free to block hers, along with her email address and any other social media. If she ever decides she wants a relationship with your children AND YOU, well I guess she can come to YOUR house, apologize for her incredibly heartless behaviour, and address you like a human being again.

New here..help greatly appreciated
by Confusedandangry inhi everyone i don't even know where to begin.
i recently saw leah remini's series on scientology thanks to my husband (semi-active jw) and i felt like my eyes were being opened for the 1st time in my adult life.
i felt shaken almost sick to my stomach with each episode i watched.

Hello, and Welcome! In your first post, you mentioned that you were watching Lena Remini's Scientology show because of your semi-active JW husband. Later, you state about not knowing whom to talk to about your concerns?
May I suggest, that your "semi-active" JW husband, is NOT semi-active at ALL, but was merely playing the part until he could get you to watch this show, see the similarities, and awaken you to the fact that you've been raised in a high-control cult?
May I suggest speaking privately with your husband about how this show made you feel, and ask him if he had the same feelings? You may be pleasantly surprised at his response and reaction. :-)

What woke me up? Gees........where do I begin??? I was born-in. Mentally "awoken" by age 10, attended meetings until age 15, started searching Yahoo! at age 19 as I had nagging questions. Fully out and realized it was a cult by age 22. Never returned. Age 37 now.
Q for Nathan Natas: Before you left your congregation, did you clue in that young sister with 2 young children? I sure hope so!

Promise Keepers
by schnell in"real men keep their promises.".
i remember that bumper sticker from the 90s when i was a teenager in texas.
i didn't know it was attached to a kind of cult.. this article is 14 years old, and may well have appeared on this site before, but i'd like to reference it anyway because i see parallels, of course.. whatever happened to the promise keepers?.

Oh man!! I worked with an Engineer in 1998-2000 who was a Promise Keeper. He was a real goody-two-shoes Lutheran as well. He was also a total sucker. Doesn't surprise me to find out PK's were some kind of Jesus-Freak Cult. The above info BEGS the question; what happened to all of the $$$$, you know, the $117 million??? Gone, baby gone! -

I am a Living Time Machine
by TerryWalstrom inwhich world is this?_________________when the doctor pulled my screaming body out of mom all those 7 decades ago, i landed in a post-wwii world.it was--compared to today's world--an alien planet.. the world i live in today has nothing in common with the world in which i grew up.. there were no cell phones back then--there were black telephones with a dial-tone and an operator who placed your call.
everywhere you found telephone booths!
a call was a nickle.where did all those telephone booths go?i dunno.where did my whole world go?i dunno.. tv sets were huge boxes with tubes and small screens.

Fun Fact:
VHS only won the tape wars because the PORNOGRAPHY industry choose to go with VHS for their shipping industry. That was the end for BetaMax. It was destined to only be used for TV stations after that happened. Sad, it was the better of the two.

Broke, Dumb & Stupid....GB wants only these people.
by krismalone inmaybe this will become a new catch phrase describing the type of people that the governing body loves to have in their organization and that they create if they're born ins.. broke......dumb......& stupid.
let me explain:.
broke: the gb keeps their members in poverty by condemning higher education and demanding that all their time should be spent peddling the wt propaganda and going to all the meetings.

This title describes 100% of the kids I grew up with, who didn't leave the cult. Anyone with a lick of sense either
a.) didn't get baptized (that's me!)
b.) Got themselves DF'd and never wanted to grovel to come back
c.) Faded and never came back, no matter how much pressure their "in" parents put on them
d.) Was smart enough to never buy into it, and therefore got their own scholarships and shipped off to a college/Univ far away, never to be seen again
e.) Married another fringe JW or most likely a non-JW, and then proceeded to fade, never to be heard from again.
I'm 37. The 75% leaving holds true in South Central Pennsylvania region. In fact, I'd say it's an even greater ratio, probably 90%. Only man-children of Elduhs remain, and they are so neutered you'd swear they were Eunuchs. And these man-children IF they are lucky enough to snag a female, have one that is a submissive post and lay-about. No brains. No education. Barely any will to live. It's like watching the walking dead, and the Congregations themselves mostly resemble geriatric wards. This cult is in BIG trouble.

Damn, it's Jeff!!! I'll always remember your posts from the past, and about your experience with the "loving Organization" after being robbed in Cameroon. (for those that aren't familiar, WT HQ didn't lift a finger to help him!)
I'm 37. I'm so glad I didn't get baptized or get suckered into following the same path you did, although I had many on my azz to do just that!
Best of luck to you on your new adventures and in life.
