I'll never forget the day.....probably the summer of 2002. My JW grandmother was 84 yrs old, had severe arthritis, and was living with my mom and I. So some other elderly Pioneer types were making their round thru our rural neighbourhood. My grandma saw them coming up the walk, so she opened her bedroom window to greet them. I was in the room, but the Pioneers didn't see me. (I didn't give a crap about talking to them) So anyway, after exchanging some pleasantries, they Pioneers ask my frail, elderly Grandmother when can she return to field service? I was floored. She already participated in the "writing campaign" with her arthritic hands, and yet these old biddies had the galls to ask her when she'd be "out" again? They couldn't be bothered to see if she needed any physical or spiritual help, but were only concerned with her door-knocking hours. My mother and I were PISSED! What a bunch of poseurs and USERS. It's all "take" and no "give." My grandmother passed away not even a year later.

Not one visit, 8 years in a nursing home, and not one visit!
by Raymudas Martini inmy dad{rip}, was a faithful jw since the year i was born, i'm 60, he died 2 years ago.
his last 12 years were spent in an assisted living/nursing home right in the small town where he spent the last 8 years of being an elder/pioneer.
when he went into the home, one brother would visit him regularly, but after 4 years, that friend moved away, and visitation from the locals ceased, for 8 years!!!!!!!

My Dad wants to study with me
by BlackWolf inso my parents continue to pester me about getting baptized.
the other day my dad told me that i was old enough to make a decision, and was wondering why i wasn't ready (assembly is in a few weeks) so i told him calmly that i have many doubts and if i were to get baptized it has to be 100 percent my idea.
he was a little annoyed by this, and now wants to study the "is there a creator that cares about you" book (which is complete bs) with me.

Do what I did as a child; ask your parent if we are supposed to be "footstep followers of Jesus?" Of course they will answer, "Why, yes!" Then state, "Well, Jesus didn't get baptized until he was 30 years of age, so I'll just do as he did." End of story. I'd also add in that this isn't unreasonable, since you're probably not old enough to vote, enlist in the military, drink, smoke, or DATE, according to the law and JW dogma. That should shut them up. It did my parents. lol

REVEALED: The number of Bethelites over the years
by darkspilver inin response to this thread.
i've put forward the argument that i believe that the 'organization' is financially effectively bleeding itself dry - it is actually financially imploding.. i believe that over the last 45 or so years, in particular, it has evolved from a relatively 'lean machine' into what is now a huge unwieldy organization.
as an organization grows i would expect increased efficiency through by both economies of scale, and advances in technology.. how has the watchtower organization fared?....

I'm 37. My parents were baptized in 1983. (I never was) In my lifetime, the number of JW's has more than tripled. Now that sounds like a lot, but the world's population has nearly doubled, from 4.3 Billion to 7.3 Billion. BILLION. JW's are like ants on a beach crying out after a Tsunami washes them out to sea. No one cares. No one gives a crap. The United Nations or the King of the North doesn't care. They are merely a nuisance. 130+ years of what? People don't even know what their message is. "Go to JW.dot Org and view this video." Pathetic! This embarrassment of a cult is a failed sick joke.

I asked my son to stop playing football.
by The Rebel ini asked my son to stop playing football.
it was a simple kick about he was playing with a friend using the garage door as the goal.
i then went to my home and thought no more about it.

For everyone in America, when the OP says "football", it's what we would call "soccer".

Today vs Tomorrow in the JW World
by Funchback ini am a teacher and coordinator in brazil.
the school (it's for adults) i work for requires that our students donate food (rice, beens, pasta) or clothes or toys every month.
then, at the beginning of the next month, we take all of the donated goods and deliver them to places that exist on receiving donated items.. two months ago, we delivered the items to a home that cares for kids with cancer.

I was in Peru in 2015. I saw many, many, Catholic Charities. I asked our guide if he was familiar with any charities that Mormons, JW's, or SDA's operate. He said there weren't any. They do ZERO. They are cults that are down in Latin America trying to get money from people that barely have any to begin with. It was a real eye-opener. I went thru an orphanage and community center sponsored and funded by local Catholic churches. JW's don't do JACK-SQUAT. They don't know what charity is, and feel everything should be given to THEM, and nothing given back. They have no idea how to "shepherd" a flock. ZERO.

I think it's safe to say that even if there even was a "database" (and I believe Barbara Anderson that there was), we can safely assume that it was conveniently "lost" or "accidentally deleted" ala Hillary Clinton style, during the great escape from NYC to new WT HQ in Warwick. They'll never see the light of day.

Is it morally wrong to put Watchtower behind?
by Darkknight757 inwith our latest and final run in with the elders, the wife and i had a very long talk about what's next in our life.
do we try to help others see the light as it were concerning watchtower or do we just let it go and move on with our life?
we have made it perfectly clear that we will never go back to watchtower and we are finally happy.

What's "morally wrong", was for that ignorant asshole of an Elduh to make such an incredibly false, and totally heartless comment about the loss of your child. I would have kicked that guys ass right to the curb if he had said that to me or my wife. What a dumbass!!! They'd NEVER get back in my house after such treatment. NEVER.

Fading or Disassociating
by Saethydd inhello, i'm new here.. i'm a college student who has been raised in the "truth" for my entire life.
i was baptized at 10 years old, and looking back now i know i didn't fully grasp everything involved, for one thing i don't even recall ever going to jehovah in a special prayer to dedicate myself to him, but anyway that's the past and my focus is really on the present.
i'm currently pursuing an associates degree, but i find myself desiring to pursue a bachelors in my chosen field so that i may have a somewhat more secure future.

Up to you man. Personally, there's no way I'd be made to go to meetings where people treat me as if I'm a sub-human being, or non-existent. That is emotional abuse, used as emotional blackmail to control you. Are you a robot? No? **BEEP!** **BEEP!** Human Alert! Cult Alert! Stop letting others control you.

I feel really, really sorry for those born into the Jehovah's Witness religion
by jambon1 insome facts that make the difference between you and me:.
1 - as a person raised by non jw family, my parents have never loved me based on conditions set out by a group of old men who they don't even know.
how does it feel to know that you are in the unique situation where your parents brought you into the world and said 'i'll show love to you.

Growing up a JW was totally F*cked!! I had to be a "mini-adult" and a "representative of the Truth", 24/7, and at school as well.
Geees, don't get me started!
