I also read that through the the book of Enoch one can find pretty much the sayings that are the Sermon on the mount. The more I look into these writings the more I discover that there nothing more then copies of older writings . The Watchers in the book of Enoch are the same as the Anunnaki in the older Akkadian writings that Zachariah Zitchin made famous in his books. The Bible is just a copy and a rewritten work of older stories.

the Book of Enoch and the Nephilim
by schnell ini've heard all my cognizant life that angels from heaven looked upon the daughters of men, took wives, and their wives bore giants called nephilim.. i've heard all my adult life about the book of enoch and why it's apocryphal and to be avoided.. so tonight i was curious enough to download an e-book and have a look, since dothemath had the thread about rarely used scriptures and the book of jude directly quotes from the book of enoch.. if jude quotes from enoch, shouldn't both or neither of them be canonical?
if you consider jude canonical, then enoch should be too.. hey, how many fallen angels were there again?
two thirds of heaven, right?

How Do JWs Reconcile Contradictions Between Mt. and Lk. and Their Birth Stories?
by Saename indoes anybody know how jehovah's witnesses reconcile the contradictions between the stories of jesus' birth as found in matthew and luke?
when i was a jehovah's witness, i wasn't even aware of this contradiction; i simply thought that all of it happen—namely that there was a census (luke 2) and the slaughter of the innocents (matthew 2) simultaneously.
but at the time i didn't know that the census took place in 6 ce and that herod the great died in 4 bce, thus placing those birth stories 10 years apart in time.

How long did people like Methuselah really live?
by dubstepped ini was working today and my brain was working in circles like it often does and i started wondering about what i was always told about people like methuselah in bible times, and their incredibly claims of longevity.
i've tried researching things but have a hard time getting through all of the bible thumpers to some real evidence, and figured that some here may be more informed or have done the research previously.
so, did people really live longer way back when?

If memory serves me well he was part of the list of patriarchs. This list was also the Sumerian or Babylonian kings list. If one compares the names they are different do to the different language but the meaning atributed to each name is the same. So what I'm saying is the names of the patriarchs in the Bible from Adam to Noah are the same as this kings list.

JW requesting food assistance to Babylon the Great.
by sp74bb inbarcelona (spain), jan 8, 2017 at 1.30 pm.
two publishers of the tagalog group in barcelona (public meeting at 4.30 pm) do visit an evangelical church barcelona downtown to receive free food bags.... i can confirm that the queue was long.
the pastor in charge of this church has not allowed me to take picture of some older jw living barcelona downtown, but i was able to catch these young publishers.

I also know jws that have gone to the Catholic Church to get food. I think their thinking is it's a outside food bank that's just using the church for a place to distribute the food.

How many JWs still have a personal conscience?
by contramundum inin conversation with an old jw friend today, it struck me that most jws have replaced their personal conscience with a collective one.. instead of training their own mental powers to distinguish right from wrong, as the bible encourages, they are content to shift personal accountability away from themselves and onto the impersonal org.
whatever behaviour may prompt an ordinary person to have serious misgivings ( such as ignoring glaring misapplication of scripture or rejecting basic human decency in favour of unchristian shunning ) they prefer to have those decisions made for them.. history teaches us, however, that there is no absolution for people who behave unethically or cruelly by allowing the excuse of 'obeying orders' to override what their inner voice should scream is inherently wrong..

There's a reason the cult is referred to as the Borg. They only have a conscience based on what the cult teaches anything else doesn't matter. That's why so many of the christs so called teachings don't matter. And when they find out things like breast milk has 1million white blood cells , it just goes right over thier heads, just one example.

Why do some Jehovah's Witnesses choose to be atheist or agnostic?
by Cassaruby in"traumatic as the initial transition may be, it can lead to the development of a truly personal relationship with these two greatest friends [the father and the son] .
.. "whatever sense of 'belonging' that membership in some religious system may create, it can never compare with the power and beauty and strengthening benefit of the intimate personal relationship the scripture presents .
from reading joseph campbell i've come to understand that there are functions to religion or mythology.

Many JWs while waking up from the cult decide to research not only the cult and its history but also the Bible and its validity. Then many decide that the Bible is not a special book after all and become agnostics or atheist.

Not a sympathizer
by Richard Oliver ini think everyone here is under the impression that i am a watchtower sympathizer, i am not.
i just like facts and when people say things, which are their opinions but that facts point out as not being true, than that is when i get so motivated to make a comment.
i have read posts here, listened to six screens and read jwsurvey and seen things that people say, which are opinion, but pass them off as fact.. there are legitimate things that people on here and former jws have concerns over without manipulating what is said or trying to pass off opinion as a fact.

Here are some facts, there's overwhelming evidence that there was no global flood 4480 years ago. Fact the Bible has in it several prophecies that didn't come true. I too like facts that's why I'm no longer a bible believer!

An Obvious Omission in the J.W.'s Good News!
by The Searcher inas baptized or unbaptised witnesses, no one ever discussed or even mentioned (at least in my jw experience) this topic: .
"we are preaching about the good news of the kingdom.
why do we preach about only one hope - living on earth?
-
Crazyguy
No because the good news is actually all about Jesus the messiah just check 1 Corinthians chapter 15 and Galatians 1.
Also the actual Greek texts says they will reign on earth and only as priests but that really of no importance because that's not what the good news of the kingdom is about.

"Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth."
by pale.emperor innow that im not longer a jw this verse puzzles me.
being born and raised a witness, this verse confirmed to me that jesus was talking about a paradise on earth.
but now that everything the witnesses taught is 99.99% incorrect can somone explain what he was getting at here?
-
Crazyguy
I read somewhere that the New Testament was a retelling of the old, so inherit the land in psalms became the same in the New Testament then the word was changed to earth both in Mathew and revelations chapter 5 . Also most of the sermon on the mount can be found in the book of Enoch written before Jesus if there was one was born
