John chapter 6:53 says if you don’t eat or drink the emblems you won’t have eternal life. That’s pretty plain and simple. If I was a bible believer I would say that at Armageddon all JWs will be destroyed for rejecting jesus and his instructions !

The Samaritans
by LoveUniHateExams injust been reading a bit about the samaritans.
no, not the professionals that answer phone calls of depressed people ... the ethno-religious people of israel and the west bank (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/samaritans).. they claim to be descended from the israelite tribes of ephraim and manasseh.
this would make them israelites but not jews (strictly speaking, jews are people who are from the kingdom of judah).. for many years some jewish people dismissed the claims of samaritans, instead suggesting that samaritans were descended from unrelated people whom the babylonian empire transplanted to palestine/the levant.. from what the wiki article says, it seems scientific studies support the samaritans' claims of heritage, at least along the male lineages.. those samaritans living in israel speak modern hebrew and those living in the west bank speak palestinian arabic; they number about 800 in total.. israel recently recognised them as a distinct ethnic group.. i find it fascinating that a group of people today are seemingly the descendants of a people spoken about in the gospels (i.e.

Most of the Jews living in Israel today are not real Jews , who is to say this group is real. The whole tribes of Israel is a myth probably written by a Greek and out side the writtings about the house of Omri there little evidence of a Israel.

Sincere question to those who no longer believe in God
by nowwhat? ini get it, not a fan of yahweh the desert god.
but what about jesus?
anything wrong with his teachings like the sermon on the mount and the example he set.
-
Crazyguy
Some of what jesus said in the sermon was already said. There’s a saying that there’s nothing new under the sun. Many of the things attributed to jesus had already been attributed to guys like Buddha and Krishna. Some of his sayings were already in prayer chants.
Osisris had already been a savior god that had died for three days and when during his annual celebration the people ate bread and drank beer as a representation of his body. When the Greeks took over and combined his likeness with that of several Greek gods like Dyonisis it switched to bread and wine.
Man has attributed many great saying and deeds to their god which ever god they worshipped at the time. Again “nothing new under the sun” , but let’s not forget Jesus wasn’t all that great for he told his followers in the stories of the Bible that non believers should be killed.

The Dead Sea Scrolls - did the Qmran sect influence Jesus and the early Christians?
by fulltimestudent inthe small sect that lived in the qmran area (and who 'owned' the documents known as the dead sea scrolls), is important if we want to understand the religious thinking in the form of judaism practised in the first century ce, and therefore the starting point for the development of early christianity.. what did jesus know about the essenes who were at least in some sort of association with that sect?.
if early judaism was truly monotheistic, how can we relate some of these thoughts to that concept?.
from document iiq17 viii: "they bless and praise the god of gods ..." (note the translators(geza vermes) use of a capital g, why did he decide to use a capital.

There’s some evidence that some of the Christian ideas were essenes, there’s also evidence that the masserites influenced Jewish ideas and even helped create some of the writings in the Old Testament.
There also seems to be evidence that the story of Christ was influenced by stories about Buddha and also Krishna.

Why do you think they changed Ester and Christ death from?
by Crazyguy ini believe the early christians going back as far as constantine changed the ritual of a savior coming and the resurrection of the messiah from the spring equinox to the following full moon.
or should i say the full moon after the spring equinox.
so why the change?

I believe the Early Christians going back as far as Constantine changed the ritual of a savior coming and the resurrection of the messiah from the spring equinox to the following full moon. Or should I say the full moon after the spring equinox. So why the change? Has anyone researched it?
It’s also interesting that so many believe in Jesus yet no one knows the exact date of his death or his resurrection, more proof of the myth in my opinion.

When You See A JW Approaching What Are Your Thoughts?
by minimus ini used to get a weird feeling in my stomach when i would see a witness approaching.... almost a sense of dread.
now, i really don’t care.
i have even made it a point to do the approaching when i see a witness trying to convert an ignorant person..

Same thing a feeling of dread but at the same time kinda a feeling of pity. These people are so arrogant yet so ignorant.

Languages, Dialects, Accents
by LoveUniHateExams injust though i'd start a thread devoted to languages, dialects/sociolects and accents, with the idea being that posters can comment on any language, or dialect or accent of any language, on this thread.. any phrases, expressions or idioms that you find interesting are also welcome.
first, the subject of english accents came up on another thread.. the british isles have many different types of accent (although many of the dialects may be dying out), and if i start to take a closer look, i can't help but see 'patterns' .... in received pronunciation of standard english, the letter r is pronounced initially, between vowels, and after consonants, e.g.
red, arrow, break.

I love how language and the evolution of languages can be used to show that humans are much older then the Bible says and also that language wasn’t confused and spread out from one place again like the Bible says.

Pondering the real numbers
by Deltawave ini was sat in the assembly hall yesterday, wondering how many pimo ones like me there was there.
or even if they don't know ttatt still don't believe it for whatever reason.. i think there must be more of (us) there than we all realise.
i mean, brothers reaching out is at an all time low, information via the internet is at an all time high and the preaching work has now become a motionless, speechless babysitting of a book shelf advertising a website as someone here pointed out!.

I’m with those that believe he was but it was not common knowledge or would be admitted by any lodge , because this was a private club and they didn’t go around advertising it.t
Then again there’s one other idea, Russell copied many things with his religion so maybe he wasn’t a mason but just copied many of the things the masons did and symbols they used.
