Church means body of people similar to that of the word congregation. This is the excuse JWs would use. You would be better off hammering home how the JWs don't follow the teachings of Christ as proof that their not gods chosen church. In fact when push comes to shove they have to admit that they for the most part are nothing but followers of the 144,000 which is in their opinion the true christians all other that are a part of the religion must follow them in order to be saved, following man instead of Christ, isn't there a scripture about that?

The Syrian Dan-El
by schnell ini started reading deceptions and myths of the bible by lloyd graham tonight, and graham mentions that the book of daniel, like the story of joseph, is ripped off from a syrian poem about another hero named daniel (or dan-el).. a cursory google search doesn't pull up anything.
is this accurate?
has this ancient poem survived?

The name is similiar and I think is goes back to the writings of a Berrous or however it's spelled. This guy also writes a flood story similar to Noah and Gilgamesh. The Bible stories are mostly rip off of older ones The epic of Keret is a story found in the city of Ugarit that may have been the works used for the Bible story of Jericho. This is just one example. The book of Daniel has more writings in it if you look at the Greek Septuagint.

I'm wondering what prompted these ads? Yes we know the cult is guilty but I don't believe there has been a case where the cult lost and was hit with enough damages to warrant the sharks to get in the water. Wonder what we know they don't? Wonder if there has been a lot of out of court settlements that are large in payouts or what's going on?

the Book of Enoch and the Nephilim
by schnell ini've heard all my cognizant life that angels from heaven looked upon the daughters of men, took wives, and their wives bore giants called nephilim.. i've heard all my adult life about the book of enoch and why it's apocryphal and to be avoided.. so tonight i was curious enough to download an e-book and have a look, since dothemath had the thread about rarely used scriptures and the book of jude directly quotes from the book of enoch.. if jude quotes from enoch, shouldn't both or neither of them be canonical?
if you consider jude canonical, then enoch should be too.. hey, how many fallen angels were there again?

Has your name or reputation been maligned by the Witness gossip-mill?
by stuckinarut2 inas we all know, witnesses routinely share in gossiping, slandering or maligning the name and reputation of those who are "spiritually weak" or ones who "fade" or "stop associating".. they feel it is ok to speak badly of such ones who "have left jehovah's organization".. of course, some of the worst perpetrators of this are elders and their wives, who insidiously plant negative stories in the minds of all they interact with in the congregation.
they may never have actual facts, but since when do facts matter to witnesses?
however through such conduct they manage to separate people from one another, or cause rifts amongst former friends.. this sort of conduct is plainly inappropriate.. but what scriptures could be used if the opportunity arose to confront such ones about the way they have behaved?.

Life is changing for me: no pioneering, got a job!
by Skepsis ina month ago i decided to register in this board.
i had decided to step down pioneering but was frightened about the consequences.
i had finished my university degree some months before (despite disaproval from brothers in my congregation) and i had to choose: continue pioneering and working in jobs with no future or starting a career, working full-time.. i was thinking to postpone the decisiton but... i was fed up with preaching.

My father joined the cult in the early 70s he was told to quit his good paying job with benefits and a pension because he did some military related stuff. He started a little business doing services around people's home and since the end was so near it didn't really matter. He was and MS and elder and even pioneered a couple of times. He died penniless and homeless too.

the subject was the relocation and dissolution of some congregations; it seems that this is the result of some project that has been going on for some time and is going to be implemented right now.. please let me know if this is happening all over the country?.
