MPs demand action over Jehovah’s Witness abuse allegations March 26, 2018
by Not_Culty inthe guardian (uk), monday, march 26, 2018. mps are demanding government action after more than 100 people contacted the guardian with allegations of child sexual abuse and other mistreatment in jehovah’s witness communities in the uk.. “i am extremely concerned, but not surprised, by the allegations of child abuse within the jehovah’s witness movement.
whenever there is a closed society with an inherent power imbalance, the potential for abuse is there,” said the labour mp sarah champion.. she said she would be raising the issue in parliament and demanding that the government take actionto make sure all children were safe.. alex chalk, the conservative mp for cheltenham, said he planned to raise the issue in parliament, saying it was not just an historical issue but an ongoing child safety concern.. “my instinctive thoughts are that the sheer numbers and seriousness of the allegations coming forward is concerning ... if even half the allegations coming to light are true then it’s clear that an entrenched culture of cover-up and flawed in-house investigations continues to this day,” chalk said.. champion said she was concerned that victims had to report their abuse to elders, without independent scrutiny.. she also expressed concern that abuse claims can only be taken before a committee for investigation if there were two witnesses to it.
“abuse happens in the shadows, so to ask for a second witness is ludicrous and effectively prevents reporting,” champion said.. read full article:https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/mar/26/mps-demand-action-over-jehovahs-witness-abuse-allegations.

So you are saying that active JWs seen this and are now responding to you? I would think that most JWs don’t watch the news or would immediately turn off the show?

If you're expecting a mass exodus anytime soon, FORGET ABOUT IT!
by nowwhat? ini have to make a token appearance at the k.h.
once a month or so and this week went to a different hall.
and believe me they are all still totally oblivious to all the negative news about the pedophiles and shunning that have come under scrutiny by the media and other governments.

People are leaving a little because their
treated badly by the congregation, a little because their victims of sexual abuse, a little because thier blamed for something by the elders that they didn’t do, a little because their gay, a little because they learn Ttatt, a little because they learn of sexual abuse coverups, a little because of gossip a little because their beat by their mates and nothing is done, a little because their screwed over by some elders and a little because their driven to have a life and don’t see any possibilities in the cult.
Its a cult that’s dying by a thousand cuts, halls are closing , congregations are merging old people are dying. In the end the bad press will only wake a few, but it will also make aware many in the world and even less will consider the cult as something they want to join. In the end they’ll still be around but they will be much smaller and even less significant.

Disfellowshipped/disassociated – How did your parents handle it?
by Richard_I into those who were disfellowshipped/disassociated – how did your still-in parents handle it?.
i don’t want to fade, so i am thinking about disassociating soon – i don’t care if i’m playing by the org’s rules, i just want out.. however, i am concerned about how my parents will react.
i don’t want them to become super depressed or whatever due to me leaving the org.. i don’t want them to be hurt by my decision to leave the org, but i feel like there is no way of avoiding this..

Don’t DA especially if your still living with them, that would be like cutting your own throat. Wait till you out of thier home and then fade away. Many parents still have relations with their kids even when their no longer active.

Scholarly interview on the existence of Jesus
by careful inperhaps this has been linked here before.
if that's the case, i'm sorry.
however, new people join, others miss things, some forget, so i thought it was worth posting, especially since this issue comes up from time to time and some here have never worked it out or are in the process of trying to do so.

What’s interesting is one can find writings by people like Plato and others that describe in great detail a guy like Jesus and what he would say and teach before he even existed. It’s almost like someone took these ideas and writtings by others to then invent a guy a messiah named Jesus and then took many of the ideas of the then prevailing messianic religions or cults of the day combined them in to a new deity and again called him Jesus which this name means savior and was already being used in the Greek Septuagint.
Oh wait, that’s exactly what happened.

These guys are just plain sick! They probably need less money now then ever before except for lawsuits. I mean they print very little have less people working for them in house and are selling off all their properties and even Kingdom Halls.
Only reasons for money is to pay for the lawsuits and more investments.

John chapter 6:53 says if you don’t eat or drink the emblems you won’t have eternal life. That’s pretty plain and simple. If I was a bible believer I would say that at Armageddon all JWs will be destroyed for rejecting jesus and his instructions !

The Samaritans
by LoveUniHateExams injust been reading a bit about the samaritans.
no, not the professionals that answer phone calls of depressed people ... the ethno-religious people of israel and the west bank (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/samaritans).. they claim to be descended from the israelite tribes of ephraim and manasseh.
this would make them israelites but not jews (strictly speaking, jews are people who are from the kingdom of judah).. for many years some jewish people dismissed the claims of samaritans, instead suggesting that samaritans were descended from unrelated people whom the babylonian empire transplanted to palestine/the levant.. from what the wiki article says, it seems scientific studies support the samaritans' claims of heritage, at least along the male lineages.. those samaritans living in israel speak modern hebrew and those living in the west bank speak palestinian arabic; they number about 800 in total.. israel recently recognised them as a distinct ethnic group.. i find it fascinating that a group of people today are seemingly the descendants of a people spoken about in the gospels (i.e.

Most of the Jews living in Israel today are not real Jews , who is to say this group is real. The whole tribes of Israel is a myth probably written by a Greek and out side the writtings about the house of Omri there little evidence of a Israel.

Sincere question to those who no longer believe in God
by nowwhat? ini get it, not a fan of yahweh the desert god.
but what about jesus?
anything wrong with his teachings like the sermon on the mount and the example he set.
-
Crazyguy
Some of what jesus said in the sermon was already said. There’s a saying that there’s nothing new under the sun. Many of the things attributed to jesus had already been attributed to guys like Buddha and Krishna. Some of his sayings were already in prayer chants.
Osisris had already been a savior god that had died for three days and when during his annual celebration the people ate bread and drank beer as a representation of his body. When the Greeks took over and combined his likeness with that of several Greek gods like Dyonisis it switched to bread and wine.
Man has attributed many great saying and deeds to their god which ever god they worshipped at the time. Again “nothing new under the sun” , but let’s not forget Jesus wasn’t all that great for he told his followers in the stories of the Bible that non believers should be killed.

The Dead Sea Scrolls - did the Qmran sect influence Jesus and the early Christians?
by fulltimestudent inthe small sect that lived in the qmran area (and who 'owned' the documents known as the dead sea scrolls), is important if we want to understand the religious thinking in the form of judaism practised in the first century ce, and therefore the starting point for the development of early christianity.. what did jesus know about the essenes who were at least in some sort of association with that sect?.
if early judaism was truly monotheistic, how can we relate some of these thoughts to that concept?.
from document iiq17 viii: "they bless and praise the god of gods ..." (note the translators(geza vermes) use of a capital g, why did he decide to use a capital.

There’s some evidence that some of the Christian ideas were essenes, there’s also evidence that the masserites influenced Jewish ideas and even helped create some of the writings in the Old Testament.
There also seems to be evidence that the story of Christ was influenced by stories about Buddha and also Krishna.
