desib77 started a thread about changing her name.
made me think about my name, i've always liked it.
i doubt i would ever want to change it....so would you ever want to change yours and if so, to what?.
I don't like my name and once when I moved to an area that no one knew me started using my middle name. It was 6 months and it felt like I was an imposter, but at the same time it was fun.
i've recently moved to another city and have started introducing myself by my middle name.
i think i have decided to start using my middle name and leave my first "biblical" name behind.
this has been sort of a fresh start for me.. what is involved in doing this?
Seeit - what are you holding in your avatar?
i would like to know how many here, are now using mozilla or firefox, the new alternative to the microsoft monopoly?
i'm using firefox and i really appreciate the function for tabbed browsing.
We are switching the entire place of work to Firefox and Thunderbird. Much much better than Netscape 7.x and faster and safer than IE, but as chat here attests, not as compatable.
and did they make you make up a meeting that was cancelled?.......we had a couple of elders that loved to schedule extra meetings in the week because a snowstorm cancelled it.
we had a few elders that would make it a point to keep a meeting going during the worst of snowstorms.
for years, we wouldn't go if the conditions were icy----simply because we could get killed!
It really loosened up the "can't miss a meeting elders" when in a terrible snowstorm a brother was killed and his wife very seriously injured. It was bad weather that was predicted to get much worse. Yet it was thought that the "show must go on" - well it didn't for him. On the way home in blinding snow and roads too slippery to be on they had a head on crash with another car.
johnny: "what do you mean?
johnny: "they aren't!
johnny: "yes?
Johnny: "I know what you are getting at. I just refuse to believe the Watchtower is a prophet of god.
Of course the real problem is that he refuses NOT to believe they are God's prophet / Channel.
Terry: Ask him what he would think if one of his children joined a "religion" that claimed to be the channel from God and yet you could easily point to the date setting errors and teach that all others are bad association.
Would he try to reason with them?
for the last few years, many of my friends have lost their jobs and have not found suitable replacements.
most are on unemployment, and those whose unemployment has run out are simply eeking out some meager existence doing something they don't like, that doesn't pay well, and doesn't help to really reduce the stress they face every day.. well, to be honest, i used to laugh my ass off at them.
ha ha ha i would say.
Now it seems like there would be work for someone with those skills. Obviously if there were you would have one. Now you have me scared. Where will I be in 10 or 15 years?
"Will automate and harden your Linux box for food"
"Set up your mail server and virutal hosting for a place to sleep" (and for breakfast will scrap the gold off your old pc boards)
"Perl and Python scripts for music lessons"
"Give me a muffin and I won't delete your active directory"
simple question, what do you do when you are feeling down and you think that there is nothing that will make this world better in the future??
we all have different kinds of problems to worry and sometimes, it can put you down.
First I try to get something going with all the family around me. I always feel better with them around me.
Or a walk in the woods with my wife and my dog
Playing catch with my son
play rock / scissors / paper with my daughter.
I feel better just thinking about these things right now, thanks.
when i was married my wife would open all the mail, even personal letters sent to me or our daughter.
i hated it!
if the letters where from old friends of the female persuasion she would give them to me later, opened and often mangled, in the evening and want an explaination.
Of course not.
from time to time we like to share some good reads with each other on jwd, and now might be a good time to share with you what i'm reading this week.
it's "the gate" by francois bizot which tells of his experiences as the only western prisoner to survive the khmer rouge in cambodia.
in 1971, on a routine outing through the cambodian countryside, the young french ethnologist francois bizot is captured by the khmer rouge.
