Kind of reminds me of that show "Dinosaurs" (actual actors in suits) that aired some years ago. The baby called dad "not the momma".

End of the World Near?
by love2Bworldly ini am wondering how many people out there still believe that in the next 100 years or so that this world/earth is going to be destroyed?.
my husband is a christian, and sometimes he is obsessed with world events in the middle east and he thinks one day soon all the christians are going to be raptured away to heaven while the antichrist rules here on earth.
i am extremely uncomfortable when he talks about it because it reminds me of the jws.. any thoughts out there?

Well, the Red Sox won it all last year, and nothing happened; therefore the "end" must be tied up with the fate of the Cubs.
On a slightly more serious note, it's hard to tell what will happen. There's been other "ends" in the past - mass extinctions, for example. Will mankind face some similar fate in the next 100 years? Darned if I know, but my biggest worry is some radical terrorist nutjob getting hold of nukes and doing a number on somebody. But even if that happens, I doubt that an "end" could be brought about by one or two nukes. In many respects the threat was greater when the US and Soviets were hostile enemies and were pointing all that stuff at eachother (which, btw, the US and Russia are still doing, just without all the "enemy" bluster).

Did Elders fail to meet requirements they made of you?
by Wasanelder Once inour po and his wife were both pioneers.
he is young and a sarcastic bastard.
one time he stood in the back of the hall while the meeting was going and said to me "this headship business is a bunch of crap!

I was disturbed, especially as an elder, when elders who had missed many meetings would demand regular meeting attendance by the congregation. The elders and their families were often the worst violators of this "requirement", and it was deeply embarassing to me and a couple of other elders.

Thanks for clarifying that carol. Since your post was logged just after mine, I was looking at my post to see what was wrong with it.

Do You Think Bag Searching Violates Your Rights?
by minimus inin view of the transit bombings, do you feel that police should be able to search you or your bags at anytime?

The other day I attended a Major League Baseball game, and of course bags were being searched, including my daughter's. I had no problem with it. To me, any time that large numbers of people are gathering into any enclosed location, bag searches are no problem. I appreciate the efforts to keep people safe.

Talesin, just remember those cruel winters, like that 37 inch snowfall in 2004. It's hot here too, but I'll take this over winter any day.

No.
Okay, maybe.
But for me, there's two kinds of female friends. 1) The ones I'm attracted to and 2) The ones I'm not attracted to. Now, which ones do I try to actually spend time with? You guessed it. Which really means that, on some level, I want them to be more than just friends, even if the opportunity is not there or it's just not the right thing to do. But there is a boundary that for whatever reason(s) cannot be crossed. So far, I've always stayed on the "right" side of that boundary...dammit.

JWD Awards??
by RichieRich inso, i was thinkin, and got hit with a good idea.
everyone whos been here for more than a week has posters that they love, and posters that they loathe.
some make laugh, some make us cry, and some drive us right up the wall.... so to honor that, i think we should have some sort of jwd award session... (should simon approve).

Similar threads have popped up from time to time. In the past I would generally would rather refrain from singling out some posters, because I think others who don't get mentioned sometimes feel overlooked....but in the interest of being in the swing of things, and since this thread apparently has
God'sSimon's "blessing", I'll nominate myself for the Only Elton John Avatar Award.Buh-bye now.

Venus Does Yoga
by rocketman ini was watching the new williams sisters "reality" show (abc family, 10 pm) and in it venus was in a session with the sister's personal trainer.
venus was instructed to do yoga while she and the trainer got tips from a video.
in the video, the instructor was doing various chants and uttering various phrases, and venus is shown saying "some of it is ungodly and against my christian beliefs, but i have to do it anyway".

They posed in Sports Illustrated some years back draped in American Flags, and the impression the photo gave was that that was all they were wearing. But I guess being draped in a flag isn't the same as saluting it.
Blondie, yes, the trainer did indeed seem to be dictating her conscience. Venus giggled embarassingly, then went ahead and did what she was told.
