The Gravatars are ugly and detract from this site. I think we need an option for loading our own avatars, as was the case in the past.

""Looking back on my career in full-time service, I realize how blessed I have been. My decision led to a life of joy and contentment. I wouldn't exchange the experiences I've had and the friendships I've made for anything."-Zenaida."
All well and good, she had some nice experiences. But what will do when it comes to making a living and then eventually retiring? (Oh, that's right, this system of things will end before she has to worry about retirement).
"23 Many of us have to spend long hours in secular work to provide materially for our family."
Well, the less you're paid, the more you have to work. Yet, the WTS strongly discourages getting the type education which usually leads to being better-paid.
And the Ray Franz quote speaks for itself. Excellent quote.

As already mentioned, keeping the application of Jesus' words to the generation of people in the first century (among them those who actually heard his words) is the only way (or at least the easiest way) to make it work.
The only other way is to abandon the link to 1914.
Who knows, that could "evidently" be next; but I think they've dug themselves into too deep a hole in regard to 1914.

Favorite Watchtower words or short phrases
by darthfader ini have seen these words/phrases used frequently by the wtbs and rarely elsewhere.

"Reaching Out for Privilages" in the congregation. (Alternatively, can include "in the congregation" in the quotation).
"The brothers" as a term for all in the congregation, or of course just the males.
"The work" and "the preaching work".
"Prominent" - some elders were referred to as "prominent".
"The friends" - for some reason, I never liked this one. I guess it implied everyone else was the enemy.

It feels like the Ice Age and not Global Warming
by MsDucky init's cold!
are the ice caps still melting?
idk?.

No one can take one cold snap or one heat wave and say it's indicative of gloobal (spelled intentionally) warming or gloobal cooling. What this latest cold snap means to me is simply that there's still (and likely always will be ) a heck of a lot of cold air on earth.

Will WT Announce the Feminine Side of Jehovah?
by cameo-d injust read an article in the oct. 2008 awake!
and it appears seeds are being planted to announce jah's feminine side sometime in the future.
i suppose this will align with the land conservation--mother gaia eco-religion that is falling into place behind the scenes.. on pg.

I had been under the impression that God does have some male and female qualities; I had based this on the idea that, since he is the Originator of masculine and feminine charactaristics, he would likely possess them in some measure.
Of course, since in humans male and female qualities are mainly the result of hormones, one does wonder, since God most likely doesn't have testosterone flowing through his anthropomorhic veins. :)

This guy makes a lot of good points, especially the one about jws learning to use a pencil when making their predictions.

It's just the latest thing to be demonized. If it's not some kind of toy, or some game, it's something on the Net. But it's always something. My guess is that most jws will simply ignore it or rationalize it away.
That said, it can be a time-consumer. If you have a lot of friends and you get their news feeds, you can spend hours on the thing, which I'm sure worries the WTS/elders. Add to that the potential for contact with apostates, this high-control group might have something to worry about.
