I thought it was actually kind of comical, in an unfunny way (whatever that means) that Communist N Korea called for a 'Holy' War.

Yes, if she were the right gal, yes, I'd marry her. She'd have to meet my main requirement though...she'd have to like sports, or at least not be bothered by my viewing.

Religion banned in the United States!
by freedom96 inyeah, i don't think so.. remember, that is what we were taught!
all religion, no matter which one, was going to banned, and then the end would come.. what about a country like the us where it was founded on religious freedom?
where you have many political leaders here and elsewhere for that matter claiming that they are christians.

My Daughter's Letter to Elders!
by reubenfine inwell, my daughter decided to write they letter.
the foundation for this letter can be found in my previous thread a couple of days ago which can be found at http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.aspx?id=44457&site=3.. she wrote her heart and gave them some good counsel.
she was generous and kind in her comments, yet concise and to the point.

My slow fade was already underway when I read the book last year. It mostly confirmed what I had already observed and also what I had read at this site's many posts on various jw topics.
I served on a body of elders, and to a great degree, a body of men is a body of men, whether it's the "governing body" or just a body of elders. When I sat on the body of elders, it seemed to me that God's direction was something we did not have, for various reasons. The C of C book served to confirm my suspicions that the same could be said for the governing body as well.

WTS Cheapshot .....Jan 1st 2003 WT
by ISP inmost christians have to face grave problems during these last days.
still, they try not to be distracted.
in spite of well-publicized economic problems, argentina reported a new peak of 126,709 witnesses last year.

My feeling is that comments like that contribute to elicting guilt feelings in the readers. 'You're living a cushy life, and you're activity is dropping, and yet behold these poor bros and sis's, they have things hard and yet do more than you'.
I recall one brother saying privately that he just wished that for once they'd highlight what joe average jw was able to accomplish, instead of always making us feel bad with such super-spirtual-in-the-face-of-all-odds examples.

Reversal of disfellowshipping on appeal?
by Searchin50 indoes someone here know of a case where an individual was dfd.
and then appealed and the decision was reversed?

Very interesting thread. I know of no cases of overturns in my years as an elder. One sister called me once after we decided to df her, telling me that she got advice from a brother who she said was an elder that she should just appeal the decision as a matter of course. I told her that I had never heard of appeals being made as a matter of course, but that they should only be made in a case where the df'd person felt the elders were in serious error. She decided not to appeal.
I must admit, as an elder then, I was not happy to hear that she might want to appeal. I had spent quite a bit of time on the matter, and back then I felt that dfing annnouncements caused the congregation to view the elders as sort of the hero type, guarding the flock, busy behind the scenes, all that crap. That's the mindset I had, and that's what being an elder and a jw can easily do to a person.
