Crisis of Conscience has just been delivered by mail to my office. I wouldn't dare let it be delivered to home in case my wife found out.

I am still "in", so the question is, should I read it? And if so, are my days as a JW numbered?

    Yes... and Yes...

You know... I can relate... I did the EXACT same thing... in fact when I switch jobs I had to throw out the book... then I bought it again...

    You'll love it...

    READ ON!

Yes! Read it! "Truth.......has nothing to fear"

If what is said in the book is lies......throw it away. If what it says is true.....read it.

What it says IS true.......trust us!

I had to hide my copy also and the second book. That alone should tell you something. What group (Christian) bans their members from reading a book? Only cults can have a control like this.

You'll love the book.....I promise. And yes.....your days as a dub ARE numbered.

Simply read it with an open mind.

Some have read it and stayed in. Most however left after reading it. it is really up to you. investigate everything, hold fast to what is fine.

But, most of all: enjoy reading it.

    Greven.

The first time I ever saw it (or even heard of it) was at the public library. I snuck it to a back corner, and spend hours reading it. Of course I had something there to cover it up in case a JW walked by. If I remember correctly, there was a JW librarian that worked there, so it was especially risky.

Eyeslice, I did the exact same thing. This is definitely a must-read for any Witness, whether you stay in or leave. I've managed to stay "in", but I know eventually I will leave for good. This book is a real eye-opener and you'll know when you read it, that Ray Franz is not lying about any of it; it certainly has the ring of truth. You will know immediately why all Witnesses are warned about reading such material: because they'll find out exactly what's going on.

Be prepared though. It's emotionally devastating to many. I was stunned, devastated and disgusted when I read the part about what happened to the brothers and sisters in Malawi in the 1960s, all because of one lousy changed "vote" on the GB. I cried when I realized that thousands were tortured, raped and murdered, all on the whim of one f#cking moron in Brooklyn.

Ray's downfall from within the Borg is both fasinating and very disturbing. The witch hunt that went on at headquarters is the final proof that these men were not appointed by any "holy spirit", but by their own selfish desire for absolute power and control.

I did not dare to order it at first. I read it chapter by chapter in a public library, not in my hometown. That was about 12 years ago.

    I have come a long way. ;-)

I think you should read it but only after you FIRST think about and comprehend what Mary said. Brace yourself for all the emotions that will hit your heart and soul. How anyone with a conscience can view the "Society" the same after reading how they operate is beyond me.

If you have anything else that is stressful going on in your life right now, I'd wait till that passes before reading it. Although I know that's easier said than done. Once you start reading the truth about how the organization behind the name operates, you won't be able to stop till you're finished the book completely. Ray did a wonderful job writing the truth. He told it in a very loving and caring way, as you'll see that NOTHING was easy, because of how much he truly cared for and loved 'the friends". I know that I could never have written as he did. I would have been too bitter to do so.

My thoughts will be with you as you read and I hope you are able to relay your feelings here or to close friends while or after reading it.

    peace to you,

    Hi Eyeslice,

Just being awake enough to want to read it means you're already on your way out. C of C didn't make me want to leave, as I already had left, it just explained in detail what my instincts had already told me about the Watch Tower Society Cult. I did come away with a better understanding of how even some of the "smarter folks" in leadership positions could be caught up in the fantasy and sincerely believe the lies just like the average rank & file JWs (me). The difference is that they were exposed to even more hypocracy and insider info and it still took them years to figure it out so I don't feel quite as stupid since they were duped too. Ray is a good writer and you really feel the way it slowly dawned on him that things were seriously wrong inside his life long religion with a top ranking family member responsible for alot of the problems. It takes a strong will to give up all the connections, prestige, and security in order to pursue the real truth.

Hi, I have read C of C and In Search of Christian Freedom. I am also one of Jehovah's Witnesses and I did not abandon the Organization after reading both books. Of course I have my opinion on both books, if you would like to discuss, feel free to email me.
