Has The "TRUTH" Made You Cry?
by minimus inbecause jehovah's witnesses are considered the "happiest people on earth", you would think that jehovah's witnesses would be, as a group, happy.
very few witnesses that i know are genuinely happy.
most are either depressed or feeling that they are inadequate.

There's a feeling that many jws have, and they just don't say it out loud all that often, that they'd love to slow down a bit. All the running, all the pushing oneself; no wonder so many do feel down and inadequate. I know I did, and so did my wife. I was just at a meeting today, and every time I go I feel worse than when I arrived.

Do you think North Korea will fire a nuke over here?
by back2dafront inis all this north korea stuff a bluff or would he really fire off a nuke over to the west coast?.
does not the usa have a missile defense system that was recently reactivated?
with all of our technology it seems that we would be able to have some sort of security in effect to counter such threats.

I seriously doubt that N Korea would lob a nuke our way. The Soviets had thousands of them, and it was Mutually Assured Destruction that kept them from firing any over here. N Korea is no Soviet Union, and they'd have no chance if we retaliated in kind, so I doubt they'd be that stupid....well, at least I hope Kim Jong Il(lness) won't.

Good post blondie. jgnat, I agree, the jw lifestyle itself poses such great demands on time/energy, it is no wonder that jws can't find time for meditation and study. And then, when they are frustrated by that, as I was, especially when i was an elder, they are told that it's likely their own fault for giving "undue" time to pursuits that are mostly just a normal part of life. No wonder so many of them get depressed, etc. I remember well the nervous breakdowns I nearly had on several occasions, just trying to keep up with it all.

The Watchtower Society Is NOT A Cult!
by SpannerintheWorks inok, don't get too excited, that is not what i think.
but it is what my wife (brought up as a jw) informed me this morning, after i said that i think the wbts is a cult.
the thing is, she has kind of "challenged" me to prove it!

Francois, great job....I'll be keeping this post handy.
Spanner, I hope all goes well with the discussion. I'd add my 2 cents, but Francois' post obviates the need for me to add anything.

Well, it certainly sounds like something that the GB does, though I'd imagine others do so as well. But the GB and jw publications do certainly tend to fish for quotes to back their ideas. Their quotes from Famine 1975 are just one example of how they quoted something that supported their chronological and idealogical notions and proved untrue.

New Date for Armageddon?
by NeonMadman ini had an interesting chat with a jw on yahoo messenger yesterday.
of course, he was using "theocratic war strategy," at least at first, and pretended not to be a jw, but someone who was asking a lot of questions about them.
he opened the conversation by asking if i wanted to discuss 'the meaning of life'.

A jw friend of mine has had the 2005 theory for years and years now. We joke about it frequently. So, it's really nothing new in that sense. In any case, the guesswork s just that, at best. Very speculative. Interestingly, Jesus said "at a time that you do not think to be it, the Son of Man is coming" and of course he also mentioned that no one knows the day or hour. And yet, people, jws especially, continue to speculate.
