  In an act of breathtaking journalistic irresponsibility, the August 2, 2005 Vladivostok edition of the national daily Komsomolskaya Pravda passed on to its readers a rumor that Jehovah’s Witnesses were behind the recent mass murder of six homeless people (including two children) in the regional city of Artyom. This theory was presented without any supporting evidence

  Breathtaking journalistic irresponsibility indeed.

  Psychologists warn that Jehovists use methods of programming the conscience that are characteristic of totalitarian religious societies

  I'm not sure which Psychologists, but here to do find at something at least somewhat factual.

  Terms like “false Witnesses” and “strong authoritarianism” are used throughout the article to create a terrifying image of the Jehovah’s Witnesses as a ruthless, dangerous cult.

  Well, they've been wrong so many times,"false Witnesses" could be a good term. And they are charactarized by "strong authoritarianism"...

  ...but, as already mentioned, this kind of stuff often does more harm than good to the non-jw cause.

  My thoughts on men who Body Build

  my two son's are body builders and i am wonering if they think they can take on the world .

  last year my son was in a bar fight and got sucker punched in the eye which required 5 stiches ,now my 21 year old comes home with a huge black eye, the biggest i have ever seen trying to break up a fight.. .

  now both these people that got a good shot at my kids where men much smaller in stature and size and seemed to land good punches.

  I've worked out since I was a teenager, but I've had too many injuries (two hernias, numerous nagging sore spots) and am limited by an average frame to really grow huge muscles and the possible huge ego that can, but doesn't necessarily have to, come with them. Without knowing your boys personally kls, I obviously can't tell what they're really thinking. It's possible that their size and interest in bodybuilding caused them to feel overconfident. Guys are a funny lot - sometimes, we've got too much ego and testosterone for our own good. I've seen guys checking themselves out in a mirror and admiring their body, and lord knows what they're really thinking - maybe something like, 'hey, I can take on the world'. If that's the case, then the guy is working out for the wrong reasons.

  Bodybuilding can be a great way to stay in shape (there's lots of methods and not all are designed to create a monster physique) and so I think it's a worthwhile pursuit - when accompanied by a proper sense of self.

  i just really need to vent here.........i'm just so f**king tired of never having any extra money!!

  all's i do is work to pay god damn bills......i just checked the balance on my chequing acct.

  and i've got just under $900.00 to last me three weeks.

  Because I insure with the same company for home, life, and auto, my rates weren't all that bad, until...my teenager started driving.

  In any case, I understand your frustration Mary. It seems we never have money to save or just enjoy for ourselves. It's always going somewhere - insurances, fuel, taxes, etc, etc.

  I just watched the STS-114 Space Shuttle fly over head

  i normally don't wake up this early in the morning just to watch the space shuttle fly by, but this was a speciall occasion.

  this was the last time the shuttle will be visible in this area before it lands.

  there is also the fact that the shuttle fleet is being grounded again -- maybe forever.

  I hope they can fly it again, but the design is showing its age, and now that more 'eyes' in the way of high-resolution cameras are trained on it, I think we're seeing some of the problems with reusable craft design that must be addressed in the next generation of such vessels. Such problems (debris damage, hanging tile fillers, torn thermal blankets) have only been seen after the craft landed, or were discovered too late (or too little was done upon discovery), as in the tragic case of the Columbia shuttle.

  last nite they announced i was an unbaptized publisher.

  everyone clapped and there was much congratulations from everyone after it was over.

  my girlfriend has never been happier.

  Wow, someone who posts here is actually advancing in "Jehovah's organization".

  You're still 'okay' bucko, if you still want to lead some semblance of a normal life. But, if you plan on getting baptized, lookout. Keep in mind also that even as a UBP, announcements can still be made if you fail to live up to certain jw commitments. It's sort of like having one foot in the door...or the grave.

  Why One "Inspired" Bible...but endless "literature" about it?

  "christians" are so proud of their one bible... the most widely distributed...blah blah blah...and thus it must be "god's" word.... yet the wts (in particular) is constantly producing new "literature"...why?.

  can't they comment on what they "know" about a certain scripture and leave it at that...i mean how much real "new light" is there?.

  they just rehash the same old crap over and over.... cheeezus...print one book...and then just "revise" it as needed... oh wait...i thought they had one book...the bible.... why do the interpretations need interpretation...???.

  Remember, God is like the Billionaire's billionaire; he's got it all and then some. Why we waste time defending His interests is beyond me. Let him spend a little; our time is more valuable than his. After all, he's got eternity and we've got a very few years at best.

  
  

  
  Interesting point Terry. JWs (and other religions) speak of 'defending' God. My response is 'he's a big boy, let him defend himself'. People get various impressions about God from reading the Bible, and as I see it, it's not up to me to explain God to anyone.

  When I think of defending or standing up for someone, I tend to think of the poor and defenseless among us, not an all-powerful being, as needing an advocate.

  when they announced the meetings for aspiring bethelites and missionaries, they've lowered the ages of admittance.. also, to become a bethelite the person doesn't need to be a pioneer any longer.

  any publisher in good standing, male or female, was encourage to attend such recruiting meeting.. i guess the need is greater now.. dy

  1914 is a very significant date for true believers.

  faithful and eager students of the scriptures figured out (and "proved") jesus would return to kill the wicked and reward the meek in 1874. the signs were obvious.

  I see they're still pushing the same stupid examples that they did when I was a kid - forgoing a career and an education and instead making choices more in line with what they want jws to do. I wonder how many jw parents from my generation will be dumb enough to fall for this crap yet again and push it on their kids. Of course, many aren't falling for it a second time around, hence the stepped-up efforts of the WTS to sell this stuff yet again. It's all about control.
