It's official: I'm a man who carries a purse
by Elsewhere inthis evening i was walking into the local fourth of july celebration grounds and had to pass through the security point where they check everyones' bag to make sure no one brings in any potentially explosive coca-cola, chips, hot dogs or other dangerous outside food.. one guy looked in my back pack while another guy told me that no back packs are allowed inside.
i pointed to the woman directly in front of me who passed through with a hugh purse that was literally bigger than my back pack and asked why she was allowed in.
the guy said that purses are allowed, but not back packs.. "well, hell, this isn't a back pack!

Yes, I've been a fan for several years. Love 'em! I have Before These Croweded Streets, Everday, Crash, Remember Two Things and Live at Red Rocks. Theirs was the very first concert I ever attended in 2002, a birthday present from my middle daughter. Fantastic! Still have the t-shirt.

Why a college education is bad
by TooBad TooSad inat our recent butt numbing, mind dulling, sleep inducing district assembly on saturday morning there.
was a talk where the speaker said that we are going to make a list that shows the contrast between.
jehovah's organization and satan's organization.
-
moreisbetter
The first on the list was God's organization gives us
a thorough understanding of the Bible and Satan offers higher education.
Thank you TBSS for the info. Could you (or anyone else who has attended the DCs) post a little more info/points about this? Perhaps the title of the talk? The "demonization" of college not only effects young JWs and their future, but older ones too. Those who now find themselves with no marketable skills beyond minimum wage currently living hard times with no relief in sight AND, retirement in a few short years.
I want to be well armed when I encourage a very close relative about pursuing a college education. It took quite a bit to talk them into getting their GED! Their DC is not until August, so hopefully I have some time.
Thank you!

Carry a big sign that says "Come to the dark side". Oh, wait. They are the dark side. I forgot.
edited to say sorry, didn't read your whole post so didn't see the nix on the sign partI guess my "Come to the darkside...We have cookies!" t-shirt from the last ApostaCrawfishboil wouldn't be acceptable convention attire then.

A little about me
by MominAustin ini, too, was raised as a jw.
my mom still goes to the meetings and out in service when she can, but due to age, she has some troubles (she's 69 and legally blind).
my oldest sister is very active although her teenage daughters are inactive and disfellowshipped for very unfair reasons.

Were YOU Personally Afraid of The "Demons"???
by minimus in.
did you think you might "get contacted" somehow by those powerful demons?
did you avoid anything the society said was associated with demonism?.

remember being scared to watch certain movies, read certain books, or even buy things that might be inviting the demons in.
I remember anytime a heard a wierd sound or noise screaming out Jehovah's name! Shit don't work!!
LOL, same here.....I never went to garage sales either. I even asked an elder once if previews to certain horror movies was the same as "inviting them in". Non of it happened, of course. Unless my exit and subsequent disbelief in the JWs is construed as "demon influenenced".

Why I will NEVER be an elder again
by stillajwexelder inso the po confirmed what many on this board already know.
at latest round of co to elders meeting, the co quoted from the society outline.
any elder or ms who encourages college for his kids or others or who allows his children to go to college will no longer qualify.. he then asked if i was going to take the cos encouragement and reach out again to be an elder and get my hours on the ministry up.. i replied "i will never be an elder again - i strongly approve of further education and college and have been through college myself.

THANK YOU STILLA for standing up for this very important issue. My hope is other elder fathers (&Moms) get these kids into higher-ed. More importantly, leave all together as to not to propagate it.
just my 2 cents
