by Aztec insorry if this has been brought up before (and i'm sure it has) but what are your nicknames?

JW,s don't need holidays to be generous. They do it all year round!
by doodle-v inyeeeeeahhhh riiiiiiight.
i would hear that quote all the time in talks and parts at assemblies and in magazines.

Yeah, I never got presents either. Well, from JWs anyway. I remember when I was about 8, one magazine that said something how people think JW children are deprived since they don't celebrate holidays and then had little quotes or stories from apparent JW kids who say they're not deprived, that they get presents all year round and their friends get jealous and all that rubbish. That made me mad because I never got presents and those spoiled brats did. Although, when I got into highschool, a few "worldly" friends of mine would secretly throw a birthday party for me at one of their houses and I'd get stuff from them, but the only presents I've gotten from my mum are basically clothes. And rarely were they new clothes unless there was a huge clearance sale somewhere.

What Did You Hate Most About Being A JW???
by minimus inhaving to knock on strangers doors, giving a talk in front of an audience, being questioned by the elders, having to go to 5 meetings???....etc.

I honestly cannot think of one thing I actually like about being a JW. Except for maybe getting candy from the lady sitting next to me.
But I would have to say the worst part about it is having this odd blockade between my mum and I. I cannot tell her certain things that I would like to because I would likely get in trouble for saying so. I have to lie and sneak off to friends' birthday parties if I want to have some fun for once. I would much rather tell her all the details rather than weaving lies and improvising.
She and I are going in completely different directions, and I feel bad that she may not be there for me later in life if she continues attending JW meetings after I leave the Borg. Cruddy price to pay for freedom.

Stereotypical Witnesses
by tazmaniac inok....we all had them...perhaps we were one of them....stereotypical witnesses.
there were many stereotypes that proved to be in congregation after congregation.
what stereotypical witnesses do you remember.

Sister Singlemomohsopoor sounds a lot like my mum except for the Aux Pioneering, home Bible study and tattling, although she does gossip.
And Brother Fartzdontstink describes several people in my congregation. They all have brand new $40K cars and huge entertainment systems and mysteriously seem to have time to attend every meeting and field service and whatever else they may be doing, including conduct meetings and hold bible studies at their house.
I have a couple of my own:
Brother Hobo: Doesn't appear to have a home, comes to meetings in a suit, although doesn't appear to have bathed in months. Is believed to attend meetings only to receive free meals from Brother and Sister Giving.
Young brother/sister Getmeoutofhere: Usually the small children who aren't related in any way to an elder who obviously don't want to sit still in a chair for two hours. They'll sometimes start talking loudly or cry, and can often be found lying on the floor, digging through bookbags or poking peoples' butts thru the cracks in the back of the seats. Sometimes taken outside and slapped around.
Sister Busybody: Always knows all the details of everyone's personal lives and spreads it around like the flu. Homely as hell and likes to invite everyone out in the ministry, particularly the children of Sister Singlemomohsopoor. Often searches you out and forces you to converse with her so she can know more about your personal life and tell it to others.
Sister Candyeater: Noticably eats candy through-out the entire meeting. Can always be heard unwrapping loudly and slowly.

Thanks guys. Some of your suggestions were quite useful. Some wouldn't really work in my case, but taking the dogs for a walk thing sounds very plausible. Of course my mum will probably roam around looking for me, but I can always hide in the bushes or go down a street she doesn't know about. I'm also trying to get a job, but no luck so far. Homework thing has worked a couple of times, although I got yelled and lectured at each time for not doing it earlier. Thanks again.

Unnecessary Rant:
Dammit. I hate the Kingdom Hall even more than before. Last Saturday, I received two 2-week old kittens from the animal shelter to foster until they were old enough for adoption. I woke up every few hours to feed them in the middle of the night and of course I had to attend the services Sunday morning even though I was exhausted. Yeah. The dog killed both kittens while we were there because someone left the door open to the bathroom. And she bit one's head off. That was the most disturbing thing I have ever seen in person. I had a nervous breakdown. And I told my mum that God had a damn nice way of rewarding me for going to church to worship him even though I wanted to stay home anyway. She ignored that, then today was Bible study, I told her I wasn't going. I said that apparently her god did not care about my mental well-being, especially considering that my 9-year old cousin had just died the week before. That was way too much for me to handle at once. And what did she say to that? Satan's trying to make me angry with Jehovah and I am going to Bible study. Well, at least Satan will give me the time of day. Jehovah has yet to answer any of my prayers. *sigh*
Anyone have anything that could make me feel better? I'm emotionally exhausted and my mother is not being the least bit supportive. I guess that goes to show I won't be getting out of the borg for another 2 years.

Astrology... and your moon sign...
by MrMoe inso, we all know our sun sign, right?
welll... your moon represents inner emotions/inner self, and as far as inner person goes, is a very key sign.
it also shows the role your mother had in your life!

Well, some of them are accurate in describing me I guess... but not my Rising or Sun signs. Particularly Rising Sign, as I am very much an introvert, very quiet and not too open about many things. Aries has always been an inaccurate description of me... I was supposed to be born a Pisces, which does sound more like me, but seeing as I was born 2 weeks late, it just didn't work out that way.
Rising Sign is in 10 Degrees Sagittarius
You are known for being open, frank, outgoing and honest. At times,
though, you are also blunt and quite indiscreet. Others have to
learn not to take everything you say personally, because you usually
do not mean any harm. You appreciate living your life in a
straightforward and simple manner -- you dislike social niceties and
consider them to be hindrances to real communication. You have lots
and lots of energy and tend to become quite restless if you feel
confined. You demand the freedom to do as you choose -- you must be
self- directed or you feel trapped and anxious. With your abundant
energy, you enjoy being outdoors, and you should be attracted to
physical exercise or to those forms of sport which can help you burn
off some of that excess energy. Very gregarious, you love to
socialize -- your innate enthusiasm livens up any gathering. Most of the others seem accurate though. Except for N. Node.

At what age did you join the Witnesses?
by JH in.
at what age would a person have to be to join the witnesses and not suffer too much?.
if they are children, it robs their youth.. if they join in the teens, they won't get a decent education.. if they join at 20 years old, they will have to marry a witness.. if they join at 30, i guess that would be less destructive because they already are married, have children, have a house, an education and a job.. at what age did you join, and how did it affect you?

No, somehow, fortunately, I have avoided baptism. And yeah, I do plan to go to college, I've been looking into Humbolt and Chico State [California]. Luckily, my mum approves of me going to college and I've also received $1000 from the state to go towards college. Thanks for your advice though, because two years isn't much really. I'll arrange a meeting with my counselor and see if I can get help applying for grants and scholarships also, as I won't be getting any help financially from anyone.

My mum began studying with the JWs sometime when I was 3, and we gradually morphed into the JW mindset. I always found it to be quite boring, and I questioned some of the teachings at 12, then grew more and more skeptical, and then I found this site last year, and here I am today, 16 and still attending, but thoroughly convinced that the JWs are... well, confused. I plan to leave the congregation when I'm 18, and I pray to whoever that my mum will not shun me.
