I got back from the memorial . . .

it was pretty mundane for the most part, same songs, same outline.

the only new thing they added was the video at the end, where stephen lett speaks to the visitors and commends them for coming and recommends they go to jwdotorg and also start a bible study.

they also showed a bar graph with figures increasing every year for jws, memorial attendance and memorial partakers.

The increasing number of partakers shows the end is near? It used to be the opposite. Your Memorial was way cooler than mine, if you can actually imagine that.

there are so many jehovah's witnesses that saw this documentary and were disgusted by watchtowers policy.

These types of news coverage is gaining traction and ground. More and more countries are seeing the JW's for who they are, or Watchtower for who they really are.

I hope the sh*t really hits the fan.

Special talk: "who is Jesus Christ?!

apparently he no longer is our savior and the "way and the truth and the life" or our mediator between god and man .

I'm glad this thread was brought up. I was at the special talk too and I kept listening very closely for them to identify who Jesus is. They never did.

They never brought up that, according to JW's, Jesus was created by God as an angel, then descended to earth and became a man, died for our sins so that we would live, was resurrected and returned to heaven as an angel again.

NONE of those points were brought up. They never brought up that Jesus is Michael the Arch Angel either.

All they did was talk about his preaching work, and his qualities and that if we want to know more, attend the Memorial. What?!

Now here's the problem with that whole thing: If your a JW and you have THE TRUTH, then tell it! If Jesus was an angel, then tell everyone that. But no, they danced around what they really believe about who Jesus BECAUSE they know that all "worldly" folk will think they are absolutely crazy if they said how the really feel, now that's the real reason they didn't just come on out and say it the way it is.

Sounds a little culty, doesn't it.

the guardian (uk), monday, march 26, 2018. mps are demanding government action after more than 100 people contacted the guardian with allegations of child sexual abuse and other mistreatment in jehovah’s witness communities in the uk.. “i am extremely concerned, but not surprised, by the allegations of child abuse within the jehovah’s witness movement.

whenever there is a closed society with an inherent power imbalance, the potential for abuse is there,” said the labour mp sarah champion.. she said she would be raising the issue in parliament and demanding that the government take actionto make sure all children were safe.. alex chalk, the conservative mp for cheltenham, said he planned to raise the issue in parliament, saying it was not just an historical issue but an ongoing child safety concern.. “my instinctive thoughts are that the sheer numbers and seriousness of the allegations coming forward is concerning ... if even half the allegations coming to light are true then it’s clear that an entrenched culture of cover-up and flawed in-house investigations continues to this day,” chalk said.. champion said she was concerned that victims had to report their abuse to elders, without independent scrutiny.. she also expressed concern that abuse claims can only be taken before a committee for investigation if there were two witnesses to it.

Transferring Congregations

what is included in the publisher cards and other information when you transfer from one congregation to another?

i was privately reproved and may be moving to a congregation where there are brothers i rather not know why i was privately reproved.

is the fact i was privately reproved visible but not the reason why?

There is a 99% chance they will include the private reproof and what it was for in the letter if it's been less than 5 years.

You make some excellent points. I love that point that according to WT your grandfather who died in '87 could be part of the Facebook generation simply because he was alive during part of your lifetime.

That really brings home how stupid of idea the overlapping generation is.

So what Splain said was supposing that Franz was the last of his group of the generation, dying in 1992, then the second group starts at 1992 and goes for another generation, a whole lifetime. So you have a life time of someone born in 1893 and living for 99 years. Then you have a second group of that generation being born in 1992 and living for how ever long they live. The second group won't die off before the end comes. But again, no where in scripture is such a notion found, that a father and his son are considered one generation, they are always considered to be two generations. What a mess.

So does this actually make any sense to you? I have not run into a single JW who says they can explain this using their Bible, not one.

Here's a bunch of scriptures that say a generation is roughly 40 years.

(Matthew 1:17)

17 All the generations, then, from Abraham until David were 14 generations; from David until the deportation to Babylon, 14 generations; from the deportation to Babylon until the Christ, 14 generations
(Exodus 1:6) 6 Eventually Joseph died, and also all his brothers and all that generation.
(Numbers 32:13) 13 So Jehovah’s anger blazed against Israel and he made them wander about in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that was doing evil in the eyes of Jehovah came to their end.
(Deuteronomy 2:14) 14 And the days that we walked from Kaʹdesh-barʹne·a until we crossed the torrent valley of Zeʹred were thirty-eight years, until all the generation of the men of war had come to their end from the midst of the camp, just as Jehovah had sworn to them.
(Joel 1:2, 3) 2 “Hear this, YOU older men, and give ear, all YOU inhabitants of the land. Has this occurred in YOUR days, or even in the days of YOUR forefathers? 3 Concerning it give an account to YOUR own sons, and YOUR sons to their sons, and their sons to the following generation. Again, here, from you to your sons is a generation.
The following scriptures deal with Jesus concerning the generation that he kept talking about so much, that they were wicked:(Matthew 16:4) 4 A wicked and adulterous generation keeps on seeking for a sign, but no sign will be given it except the sign of Joʹnah.” With that he went away, leaving them behind.(Matthew 17:17) 17 In reply Jesus said: “O faithless and twisted generation, how long must I continue with YOU? How long must I put up with YOU? Bring him here to me.” (Matthew 24:34, 35) 34 Truly I say to YOU that this generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will by no means pass away.
So how long was this generation of Jesus time? Depending on where you start it at, it's about 40 years. The destruction of Jerusalem was in 70CE. So from when Jesus was speaking these things, say in 30CE to 70CE is 40 years.
Why does the Bible keep telling us that a generation is between 30-40 years, again and again. The reason is simple. It's because a generation is really that long, about 40 years, not 100 plus years. No where in the Bible can you get that using scriptures in their context, no where.
