Evolution is a Fact #39 - Homologous Structures
by cofty inevery living thing descended from a common ancestor over millions of years.
this is the central fact that the theory of evolution explains.
house sparrows and tree sparrows only need to go back relatively few generations to find their common ancestor, while trout and tigers must search much closer to the roots of the tree for theirs.. darwin sketched this idea of common ancestry along with the words "i think" in one of his notebooks.

2017 Convention Video To Be Shown Regarding The 1975 Failure
by pale.emperor inhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=go3arnnsfkk&feature=youtu.be.
no mention whatsoever that it was watchtower themselves that strongly hinted towards this date.
instead they blame those who "put their trust in a date, not jehovah".. let's recap... .

Idiotic elder training video
by CookieMonster inso i stumbled across this the other day, please excuse me if it has already been posted.
don't know what you think but i found this idiotic, casting stereotypes and dangerous.
so the scenario goes something like this, young brother finds himself in the company of a young lady at a bar.

@under the radar completely agree, this is how it should have played out.
Here's what I think they should have said, in this order, when he first came to them:
(1) If this really is your child, you have an absolutely responsibility to provide for it the best you can.
(2) Get yourself checked out right away to make sure you're ok, and get treatment if it's needed.
(3) Now, about your conduct...

"If the Earth were just a little bit further from or closer to the Sun, we would all freeze or burn"
by Island Man ini'm sure we've all heard this argument by theists employing the fine-tuning argument.
are you aware, however, of exactly how much this "little bit" really is?
theists would have us think that the slightest change in the distance would have drastic implications for survivability.

Yes I find the finely tuned universe factoid to be hilarious. The same people fail to grasp the fact the finely tuned earth will one day be swallowed up by the finely tuned Sun when it becomes a finely tuned red giant.

So I stumbled across this the other day, please excuse me If it has already been posted. Don't know what you think but I found this idiotic, casting stereotypes and dangerous. So the scenario goes something like this, young brother finds himself in the company of a young lady at a bar. He ends up going home with her and they have consensual sex. He is now beaten up about all of this and to make matters worse she claims that she is pregnant and wants to marry him. The brother is feeling very remorseful and confesses to the elders. After a lot of head nodding the elders form a judicial committee. Now what I find idiotic is this:
1) This young brother claims she "seduced" him. So its this worldly girl's fault he couldn't keep his trouser snake in check? The elders don't even try to refute this. All worldly girls are out to seduce our JW boys I guess.
2) They meet at a bar, for the first time and hop into bed. The assumption that everyone gets jiggy when they first meet someone is false. In fact a survey showed that only 1 in 3 Americans have sex on the first date But I guess the Watchtower thinks all worldly girls will bed anything that moves.
3) This girl claims she is pregnant. Of course she could be lying or the baby isn't his. However the fact that the young brother never questioned this means he did not use condom, what a moron.
4) Which brings me to the idiotic elders. This young man probably went bareback with this lady who in their eyes sleeps around. Why didn't any of the elders ask or advice him to get tested? That should have been the No.1 concern and not what type of pornei he has committed or who should be in the JC.
5) Now that she is pregnant, the worldly girl wants to marry him? There are many who fall pregnant from casual relationships but don't go running to get hitched. What planet are they on?
6) Complete lack of concern for the girl. She is cast as the seducer of our poor brother who preys on men for her sexual gratification and one who is willing to sleep with anyone even without protection. Who knows what mental anguish she is going through, after all she is the one who will live with the consequences of this chance meeting for the rest of her life.
7) In my opinion, this shows the stereo typical view the Watchtower has on "worldly" people and especially women. The elders completely failed in looking out for the physical and mental well being of these individuals. All they seem to be concerned about is who will be carrying the big stick for the JC.

Did the flood happen?
by BlackWolf inso we were talking about noah for our family worship tonight and it ended with a little debate between me and my parents about how the flood was possible.
you know, where did the water come from, how did all the animals fit, etc.
of course it led nowhere and my parents came up with some strange theories like that there was "an expanse of water in the sky" and that's where all the water came from.

More daming evidence against evolution from an expert
by konceptual99 indon't worry, i'm taking the piss.
it's just another jw.org video promoting one of their own who had the benefit of a university education and medical training before they became a witness and letting him try and debunk years of research with an appeal to emotion about the placenta.

Maybe he would also like to explain the design flaws in giving birth.
http://www.skepticalob.com/2012/09/no-your-body-is-not-perfectly-designed-to-give-birth.html
And evolutionary medicine explains why childbirth is so dangerous for both babies and mothers. One reason is because evolution favors reproduction over health. In other words, the most successful of the species are those who produce more offspring, not perfect offspring. From an evolutionary perspective, it is better to have 10 children and have 5 die, than to have 2 perfect children.
Moreover, childbirth itself represents a compromise between competing evolutionary pressures. On the one hand, a more neurologically mature newborn is more likely to survive, so there is an advantage for a baby to be born more with a bigger head and therefore neurologically more mature. On the other hand, there is a limit to the size of the woman’s pelvis. That’s because a larger pelvis renders walking more difficult and if the pelvis is large enough, walking upright is impossible. There is tremendous evolutionary pressure to increase the size of the neonatal head and equally large evolutionary pressure to limit the size of the maternal pelvis.
As a result, there is naturally and inevitably a significant amount of incompatibility between the size of the baby’s head and the size of the mother’s pelvis. This is built into the system. In other words, a significant amount of maternal and fetal death is built into the system and is unavoidable. Understanding this leads to different conclusions than the erroneous assumption that women are “designed” to give birth.
The same principle applies to pregnancy length. The earlier a baby is born, the easier it is for the baby to fit through the maternal pelvis. The later a baby is born, the more neurologically mature it is, giving the baby a survival advantage. The variability in the length of pregnancy represents the competing evolutionary pressures on the timing of birth. The length of pregnancy is NOT a sign that the baby is “ready” to be born. We understand that premature babies are not born prematurely because they are ready to survive outside the uterus; often they aren’t. Similarly, postdates babies are not staying inside the uterus because they aren’t ready to survive; they are definitely ready to survive outside the uterus and staying inside longer can lead to avoidable stillbirth.
