Cool, Im glad the local Elders had some balls to stand up to him. I wore my cowboy hat when I picketed, and wore it almost during the whole trip to Texas.

for those of you who live in the states, i would recommend going to amarillo texas and visit the palo duro canyon, it was really cool looking.
they have an outdoor drama there called "texas legacies", and it was one of the best shows i have seen in my life.
its outdoors in an ampitheater and sits down in the canyon.

The big western store I went to was called "Cavenders", but there is also a shepplers store there, well actually its a division of shepplers western stores, but I cant remember the name.

Also I need to mention that I finally picketed my first convention in Amarillo, and there was a carload of JW teenagers who pulled up beside me and rolled down their windows, waved to me, and gave me the thumbs up sign, so if you guys are reading this I just want to say "thank you" as it made it all worthwhile to me. Plus I was followed around by 2 convention attendants who were wearing their suits, ties, name badges, and Big Cowboy hats. It was hilarious as they finally had something interested to do--following the "evil" apostate around-LOL

I thought Amarillo was just the perfect size city and the lanscapes around there were so reminiscent of the old west. The Big Texan SteakRanch had some delicious Barbecue and some good music too. I always love traveling out west, but Colorado is the furthest west I have been. I have recently taken a liking to western swing music, and especially "asleep at the wheel" I have bought 3 of their CD's this year and have nearly worn out one. If I were to ever move far away from home again, then Texas would be my first choice.

We're in paintsville kentucky right now, actually Van Lear at my inlaws. We've been visiting family and I even went to church today, its only the 2nd or 3rd time this year Ive been to church. It was good to see all my cousins and catch up on old times, plus the dinner on the grounds afterwards was very delicious, its a shame the JW's dont do anything fun like that. Well Texas was great and I saw miles and miles of Texas-just like the song says. I have been trying to wean myself away from posting here, and im gonna try to work on a tan and get some exercise before cold weather sets in. In the wintertime I will post more here, but for now I probably wont post more than once a week.

One of the things about going to school was trying to dress to impress the opposite sex, if everyone wore the same thing, it just wouldnt be cool. Different women have different figures and one may look good in pants while one may not. Blue may look well on one girl, and pink may be anothers color. Geez, I just hate the thought of forcing everyone to dress alike, the kingdom hall was bad enough. And its really not cheaper for uniforms, because it limits what you can choose to buy. If someone is really dirt poor then they could always go to a thrift store and find some stylish clothes. Plus I believe it creates a conflict of interest making people buy uniforms from one "approved" store. A parent should have the right to purchase their child's clothes from whatever store they wish to patronize.

i live here with my elderly parents.
my dad is in his seventies and my mom is in her sixties.
i don't really in a way consider them elderly, but i guess others perceive them that way.
just thought I would let you know that we live in Knoxville Tennessee, and I have been trying to get a regular XJW meetup group started, there are only a few of us here in Tennessee, but hopefully the numbers will grow large enough so we can hold our very own Apostafest here in the Volunteer state. I dont check my mail box often here, due to technical difficulties with my internet terminal, but I will look for your reply on this thread.

I just dont like the idea of forcing everyone to look alike, people should be able to choose what they want to wear.
Here's a good idea, why dont the WT make the JW's wear uniforms to the hall? Simple they wouldnt want people to think they are the mind controlling cult that they really are.

Right, Leveling the playing field gives a child an unrealistic view of life-children need to learn how to deal with the various social orders that appear in real life. In short I think it just leads to a sheltered life---Here is something that doesnt surprise me one bit, My Dad the faithful WT Elder, always said that uniforms should be worn in school, we used to argue about that when I was growing up, as fashion and styles make up so much of what children experience when growing up. Im an adult now and wear practically what I want and when I want, and I dont necessarily try to keep up with the "style" Dont the Japanese force school kids to wear uniforms?
