Hi Jeff, well for me, I actually enjoy going to church. It gives me a chance to connect with the local community, it gives me a sense of belonging, and I actually believe most of what they teach, and when I do find something slight I disagree with I just choose to stay, or I have the freedom to go somewhere else without being shunned.
By the way, how was your vacation? Please tell us about it in your other thread, if you don't mind.

When the fog lifted - did you see the control tactics everywhere?
by AK - Jeff init took a while for me - but after some time i began to see most all religion as controlling entities, interested not only in forcing doctrine on adherents, but also, and perhaps primarily, seeking to control believers.
i initially saw this as somewhat benign, but have increasingly seen it as dangerous, even a malignant force in human social-evolution.
i see a far-right fundy church and it virtually screams "jwism" to me.

600K is still a fortune, especially for those living outside of California.
With 600K I could have bought a decent house in Kentucky when we got married, and never ever left Kentucky.
I won't sneeze at 600K -

If you don't agree with someone, then just tell them, but don't resort to rude tactics. Or maybe I have it wrong? Maybe I should just respond back with ever bit as vicious as I can be?

Do the religious have higher morals than the non-religious?
by digderidoo inok, i was going to ask whether christians have higher morals, but i thought that other religions have the same kind of morals too.. when i look at those who sincerely follow their religion, i think that they do have a higher morality than those who do not follow some sort of scriptural guidelines.. this is not to say that the religious have a monopoly on morality, or to say that some religious people are not hypocritical in doing what they say, rather than what they do.
but as a whole it seems to me that someone with a religious upbringing has higher standards than someone without.. now some would say that higher standards or lower standards are defined by society, so therefore by whose definition do they have higher morals.
this would be a fair assumption.

As a christian I try to treat everyone the way I would like to be treated, sometimes it isn't easy when others are rude.
About the only atheists I know are on this board, so perhaps this isn't a good representation of what atheists are really like. -

Well there are several people on here who have a habit of making rude remarks, they do this over and over.
Telling someone they are wrong is one thing.
Telling someone they are a dumbass, they are a inbred hick, etc etc etc. This is what I call abusive.
now perhaps it may just be the region of the country they come from, or perhaps they see a christian as an easy target because they know they won't respond back with "F" words, but I have experienced this personally.
I guess the best way to do is just treat other like you would want to be treated, even if they don't live by the same creed. -
