There is no "truth" to defend. Not even the bible is credible by it's own scholars.
The only thing they argue is the organization. So... good luck with that.
as of yet, no member of the jehovah's witness faith can defend their unique beliefs.
when the dust settles, it all comes down to blind faith in men's ever-changing ideas.
this "unique belief" was not a "true teaching of the bible.

in the past few weeks, the shunning issue has become a very personal one for me, and i have begun to realize that it is not just enough for me and my family to fade out.
after some recent events, i am motivated to start some anti-watchtower activism of my own.. i, like many others, have hoped that there would be a scandal of epic proportions within the organization, something that would wake others up and trigger a mass exodus.. while i am still hopeful that this may happen, it seems that the organization is too good at damage control, and heightening the paranoia surrounding apostates.. but what if the ex-witness community tried a different approach?.
what if, to borrow a hockey term, a sort of shut out situation was created?.
I enjoy the concept. However, I must say that I put Jehovah's Witness in no greater or worse catagory than Latter Day Saints or Scientology. If fact when it comes to all Christian fundamentalism, Muslim extremes, or Orthodox Jews, one is hard pressed to find which one actually degrades us as humans more. Jehovah's Witnesses are just one sliver of one third of that.
Here's where I break mold: Jehovah's Witnesses are no different than any other religion in the world. They are so similar it is impossible to tell them apart just by their words. For that, I give no effort to any of them. The best I can do is live a better life... and I certainly have TO THE FULLEST.
When I walked away (actually, they kicked me out of their little club), I noticed the colors of fear and stupidity ran from one group to the other. So... I can't join you in your fight. I would fight against anyone obnoxiously throwing around spirituality so that others can get hit over the head by it. It's annoying, especially for me who has no spirituality. ALL that world bothers me and JW are so... ugh, THE SAME.
jude 1:9 shows that michael didn't dare rebuke satan.
if jesus is michael, then why would he be afraid to do so?
in matthew and mark it clearly shows that the demons were afraid of jesus..
I would think the "arguing over Moses' body" would be a bigger question that the very clearly worded "he did not himself dare to condemn him for slander but said, 'The Lord rebuke you!'"
reading over the woody allen thread i noticed a couple things but didn't want to side track the "discussion".
1) woody allen is creepy.
2) nobody really seemed to care that his ex-wife was abusive towards her children.. an example i think is perfect was the release of twilight where you would see lineups of 30-40 year old women making very inappropriate comments about a 16 year old boy.
.
if your sister and brother died of cancer and now your body is starting to show all the effects of the disease, would you want to know even if it might mean a death-sentence?.
my dad, sister, brother and now mom will die from this ugly disease, all of them had aggressive forms of stomach cancer, my mother's battliing it has me putting my health on the back burner because i am very obstinate and hate doctors, why should i go see a doctor if the last four people i loved all died of cancer once they got their dx?.
Whatever your version of a nice "get your ass to a f**king doctor" is, PLEASE just imagine that I wrote that.
There is not much to say here. Cancer doesn't have any "symptoms" per se. It depends on the type of cancer, location, aggressivness, the person, and time it is caught. Some cancers (like colon) are not heredity BUT people of a certain group/family/geography/community can all get similar types of cancer based off lifestyle simularities or common environmental exposures.
I'm not sure of what you're wanting here. We can't give health advise... and if we did, do you really want important medical decisions to be left up to a message board of unknown people with vague expressions of concern and hope? If that is how much your health is worth, then stay at home, otherwise, I (logically) stick with my first line of this comment.
what's your impression?.
recently in our congregation a new family moved in.
youngest son is a high school senior.. dad was speaking glowingly of his post-high school plans.. going to college?
<------- The most spoiled and entitled JW I knew.
<------- I didn't come from a rich home, but all my friends had money,
<------- which was great because I didn't have to pay for stuff!
<------- There was nothing good that came of that... LOL. Nothing.
probably not an original thought, but after the nauseous watchtower today, i just wanted to say what occurred to me this morning:.
the present governing body is the witnesses given alternative for the modern-day golden calf!.
and most have contributed to its existence!.
What's weird is... technically, all we have to do is give a Jehovah's Witness a glass of water and we're set for life. No need to follow anyone! (Mark 9:41)
With the simplicity of Christ it makes it seem pretty silly to have a religion with a bunch of rules, doesn't it?
everytime i hear jw's talking about free will, i either feel the urge to burst in laughter or feel sick.
each publication keeps talking about how wonderful jokehova is for giving us free will.
the only small thing is that he'll kill you if you don't do exactly what he says.
@adamah You're right. We, as humans, tend to put more weight on issues regarding the association of and arround this religion when it comes to how we should respond to things. There is a difference between free-will and 'freedome of choice' and the Russia situation has given us a great example of the difference between the two: Do you have to ask permission to protest?
If you do not, you have the right to exercise free-will. If you do, you only have freedom of choice.

The two questions that are asked of everyone who gets baptized revokes the idea of “free will.” When you get baptized you agree that you have now “repented of your sins and dedicated yourself to Jehovah to do his will.” Furthermore you realize that through baptism you agree to be be identified as “one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in association with God’s spirit-directed organization.”
Everything else – if you're studying, a spouse of a Witness, parents are in, family, etc. – is implied loss of free will. You actually have all the free-will you want, you are only afraid of the human retribution that comes with it. Once baptized, you can try to exercise free will, but you are subject to the godly retribution that comes with it. In this case “godly” means the Governing Body of the WTBTS.
The concept of free-will is something that is given up freely and publicly... with handshakes and pats on the back, celebrations and congratulatory expressions.
the beatles were on ed sullivan for the first time fifty years ago.
it blows my mind.
i gave them three months and i was a fan before they appeared.
I was never a big Beatles fan... but I did thoroughly enjoy the drugs they did.
