I can write backwards with my left hand like Leonardo da Vinci, but I don't know if that counts.

Time for new myths? And a book to read..
by Valis ini was just thinking about myths because of some of the other topics about the bible being myth, etc...i also agree w/joseph cambel about the importance of humans finding new myths to believe in, to some extent.
mostly about the process by which we create them.
one way is via litterature...and not necessarily religious texts either.

Another good book to read is "Rescuing the Bible from Fundamentalism" by John Shelby Spong, if you want an insight into Biblical mythology in particular. He explains how the Jewish writers used mythological stories (which were always meant to be understood as such) to get a very real point across, but then Western readers who were unfamiliar with that culture literalized it and totally missed the point. It's really quite fascinating.

who owns the KH/ asembly halls?
by Curious Mind inhope someone can enlighten me!!!!.
just curious as to who has legal ownership of the kh/ah.
most kh/ah are built with free labour and the loan for the hall comes from the society, which the cong then repays - hence the question.

This is no longer done, nor do the congregations contribute directly to the WTS for the COs/DOs healthcare. It is a tax issue here in the US.
We must have different laws here. I remember not so long ago (maybe a couple of years) the elders got our congregation to vote* on whether to send extra payments to the Society from the congregation's funds to help buy a new car for the CO (and pay for its maintenance). I had never heard of an arrangement like that before - I remember wondering who got to keep the car afterwards.
* "Can we have a show of hands please...? One, two, three...four.... Anyone against the idea? .... No! Okay, well that's settled then."

What a deal.
Don't they do a similar sort of thing with circuit overseers' cars? Last I heard, they request donations from the local congregations to buy the car, the CO drives it for a bit, then it goes to the WTS who sell it and keep the cash.

from the article...
Mr Hawthorn claims that he is now able to walk only short distances and "his capacity to enjoy life has permanently diminished".
Permanently? But...didn't he go there to tell them about how God will shortly bring an end to all pain and suffering? I don't understand.

BIG SURPRISE at upcoming International Conventions
by Smiles inhas anyone else been told about this...... word out of hq bethel has it that the upcoming special international conventions will contain some kind of major information or releases.. we know the gb has been rather quiet the last couple years after their 'reorganizing'.
perhaps because they are facing the sex abuse scandal..... but also likely they have been working on some fancy surprises for the upcoming special international conventions, to excite their masses......... and also try to detract them from the scandals.
it would be good timing of their part.. this should be interesting......... .

New light: In accordance with the command in Luke 6:23, which says to "rejoice in that day and leap, for, look! you reward is great in heaven", all meetings will now include a five minute leaping session in between the song and the prayer, during which the congregation will be required to demonstrate how joyful they are by jumping up and down.

Club Membership and JWs
by Stephanus inhere in oz we have registered clubs - for a membership fee of about $10pa you can join a local club (which is a non-profit organisation for the benefit of its members) and use their facilities - cheap meals at the bistro, cheap drinks and poker (slot) machines, among many other things.
there are (rugby) leagues clubs, (lawn) bowling clubs, workers' clubs, sports clubs, yacht clubs and the one i'm interested in for the purpose of this post: rsl (returned services legion) clubs.
they're like the veteran's associations in the us, whatever their acronym is.

Four door cars

Field service. Of course. <slaps forehead> I've really, honestly, never heard of this before. Amazing.
Having a rule like that would almost make you want to turn up for service with a Harley Davidson motorcycle and side-car.

I'm learning all sorts of fascinating things here. Recently I've noticed a lot of people making reference to four-door cars as being the only ones approved by JWs. Is this for real? I grew up as a Witness, and I have to say I've never heard this before. I was always aware of the little unwritten rules about what was sinful and what wasn't - facial hair, phrases to avoid, dress code, etc. But ... cars??? When the heck did cars become an issue? Is there any particular reason given? (beyond "So we can get you for not being submissive if you ask why"). A scripture to back it up, perhaps?
