Thoughts on JW funerals

i recently had the sad opportunity to attend 2 jw funerals.

the first was a few months ago and the second today.

the first was my grandfather's and the second of an old friend back from my jw days.

I have recently attended 2 JW funerals. The 1st one I have to say would of been 50/50 about the deceased and JW doctrine. I was so impressed by this I actually commented on it to the elder, who gave the service . The friends ( be it conditional ones) put on a lovely after function. I personally didn’t mind the service been 50/50,as been a jw was a major part of his life.

The second was the like the service you described. Left me somewhat bewildered.

I agree with dozy, in that things are slowly changing. I think a lot of it has to do with the elder giving the talk, and how much of a company man he is.

i don't know why but sometimes like to check up my old/self righteous friend, gary kennedy from bethel on face book....he is a pioneer in ecuador.

yes and just like most pioneers he likes to brag on his selfless life style.

he is serving the lord my sitting at home and writing out thousands of letters long hand all day long to count his time.

I wonder if they realise in Chile that they have no problem with flying the national flag on KH grounds.

wow, just watched a video from the 'world economic forum' , a respectable organization by the way, not the usual conspiracy lunatic theorist.

it says that by 2030 meat is gonna be a treat not widely available like today, that the us is not gonna be a global superpower anymore, instead a handful of countries will dominate and that people is not gonna own nothing but will be happy.. well, that would help the borg to keep the craziness going on.. thoughts?

The bible mentions in the book of Daniel about the image feet been made of clay and iron. This symbolised how they would mix but wouldn’t. So the above scenario is totally possible. How the jw will spin it, as they have said it symbolised the Anglo American world power, is anyone’s guess.

How many TRUE BELIEVERS do you think are left in the Organization?

i have a few jw relatives who are true believers.

by this i mean, they believe with all their heart that 1914 was the beginning of the last days, that this is the last generation, that we are in the very last of the last hour of this system of things, and that you should obey the governing body even if it does not make sense.

all of them are in their 60s and up into their 90s there is nothing you can say or show them to convince them or even cause a small doubt that the wt is not god organization.

I think the Mormon church can be used as a gauge for the level of belief in the JWs. It has been suggested that the activity rates for the lds could be as low as 30%. If this was the case, then the JW religion could be bigger, with a more engaged membership. This 30% figure gets worse, when you factor in those members that have a temple recommend. Unfortunately the church doesn’t publish these statistics, but I would suggest that it would be significant below the 30%. You could be 2-3 million who believe it enough that they have a temple recommend

evidently it would seem the wt sold the rights and will get royalties from "listen obey and be blessed.." this obviously is a trial balloon for what's to come.

kim and mikey alluded to this and i have been wondering why they are planning on spending hundreds of millions on a new movie studio in n.y. and also in australia just for the benefit of the few million jdub's.

well here's the answer, they are going to make money off the royalties from their music and video content selling to other church groups.

this new lawsuit continues to compound undeniable evidence that jehovah’s witnesses is keener in monopolizing "the truth" or making "kingdom assets" an exclusive right, so that they can interests of their "king, jesus christ".

Smokin' Phizzy !

as a jw teenager in the 60's i took up smoking.

i gave up in my early 20's when my new wife and i decided , mistakenly, that it was a good idea to " make a proper go of da troof".

in all the intervening decades i still enjoyed the smell of a fine cigar.. when i left and became free, i took up smoking again, always fine cigars, and ended up hooked, and smoking ten or more a day.

One of the positives of been in the cult. No Christmas, birthdays, drugs or smoking.

A positive about been a former JW

i decided on christmas day to wash the house and do some yard work.

i had a concerned neighbour come out and bring me some of their christmas food.

although i appreciated the food and wished her a merry christmas, the neighbour was concerned as to why i wasn’t inside enjoying christmas.

Although I never stated the exact reason why. It got me thinking. To be honest, I find Christmas and birthdays a hassle, and I think it was a positive of been in the cult. I really couldn’t care less, or be bothered about Christmas or anything else. I don’t think I missed it in the past or will miss it in the future. I’m quite happy to wash the house and do the yard work. Those were my thought today. Merry Christmas to you all.

Kingdom Halls are been opened up now.

my fathers best friend passed away a couple of days ago.

admittedly, i live in a country that is covid free, although the local dubbies are still following the advice of not meeting in the hall.

with the death of my fathers friend, the local boe must have had a change of heart.

My fathers best friend passed away a couple of days ago. Admittedly, I live in a country that is covid free, although the local dubbies are still following the advice of not meeting in the hall. With the death of my fathers friend, the local BOE must have had a change of heart. At first they were going to zoom the funeral service. I tried to point out to my father how insulting and disrespectful this was to the deceased especially when the threat of covid is none existent here. All public gatherings are allowed by the government. Surly they could have a public service especially since this friend had been a loyal dub all his life. Anyway, I heard this guys son ,who isn’t a jw, got involved. Turns out he was also of the same opinion of me, and what ever happened the service is now been held in the hall, with a zoom option if thats your preference. This is the first instance I’ve heard of where the rules have been broken. In a way I’m happy for the family that they got to see their loved on off with a public gathering of ( conditional) friends. F*c$k you watchtower and your Pharisaical rules.
