It just goes to show when you think you have heard everything, someone highlights another gem to you. I had no idea this was going on.

Cost of new Kingdom Halls?
by Blttex ini have been told that the cost to build a new kingdom hall is $500k +.
i have a background in commercial construction and this seems pretty high to me, considering all the free labor.
that is just the cost of the building, excluding the lot price.

Christmas Field Service
by NeverKnew inon another thread, i read that a few adherents may be traveling (cough-cough) to other cities and wouldn't be able to make field service on christmas day.. what is the likelihood that going out on christmas will be encouraged at the weekend services at the khs?
...or do most halls stay neutral on this?
given what i've read on this forum, i have the impression that disrespecting a day of other's celebration wouldn't be discouraged which annoys the heck out of me..

Even when I was in I was quite vocal about this.I just thought it was plain rude, and that giving the the community 1 day a year off to have with their families, with out talking to a stranger on their door step was not a big ask. Needless to say the reply I got to that was the advantages because you always got people at home. OMG I just gave up in the end.

Ray Franz
by thedog1 inam reading coc at the moment, about half way through.
just finished reading some of the details of what happened in malawi and mexico years ago.
which reminded me that in the early 80's a very well known elder in the country i was then living in went to new york as he had discovered all the discrepencies between what had happened in malawi and in mexico and wanted to know what the gb had to say about it.

Ok this is a continuation of a previous topic that I had. Please see below.
So now that sufficient time has lapsed, what I am wanting to know from someone in the Philippines is! Could they please give experiences of the loving assistance that was given (and the extent of it) to the bros and sisters in the effected areas of the Philippines. Was it just a case of keep warm and well feed, have a nice life. Oh and BTW here is your invite to help rebuild the destroyed KH. OR . Was it like in the USA were teams of people came in rebuilding the devastated homes. To know the answer is just killing me.
It saddens me that I have to say this, but i am wanting people to stick to the topic where the key words here are " philippines/assistance". please not the key words here are not " cognitive, brainwashed " etc.

Can WTBTS legally do this for international conventions.
by joe134cd ini was just reading this on jwservey with regard to the international conventions.
if an individual selected to attend a special convention loses his exemplary status and is no longer qualified to attend, the delegate should be thoroughly informed of the reason for your decision.
such a person would be fully responsible for any financial loss associated with his abrupt disqualification as a delegate, even up to the time he was supposed to depart.. .

Yes I agree with you Steve that it is unlikely that some one would take them to task over it. Ok they may be able to dis-invite me to the convention, as they have discretionary right remove trouble makers, just as the police have the right to remove drunken people fighting from a football match. But just because i had an incident at a football match still gives the travel agent the right to cancel the other bookings made for the tour e.g motels, transfers etc, and then to have the bloody cheek to not refund my money.
Like I said I'm no lawyer. But I'm just wondering if they would be breaking some sort of consumer guarantee act. Once I've paid my money then the deal is done. Steve could you ever imagine a person buying a service, and then the service provider refusing to provide it and refused to give a refund, because he latter found out that the person was gay. Even if the person had signed an anti-gay disclosure form. I'm sure it could be challenged in a small claims court if not boarding on illegal.

I would think once the money is payed and tickets issued, then there is nothing that they could do to stop me going on the tour. I dont even think that they could legally even stop me from attending the convention. Hey if they want to tell me I can't go, that is fine but I would fully expect to get a refund. I think legally if someone took them to task over it, they would loose. But I'm no lawyer.

So my question is??? Purely from a legal point of view is, once I have paid my money and tickets issued, is there any way that the society could prevent me going on the tour if fell out with them.?? If they could physically stop me from going, would they have to refund me my money??? Obviously they don't think they have to. Is this breaking the law???
i suppose it's a bit like, a person buying an item in a shop, and once the transaction is done the store owner refuses to hand over the items, or give a refund because he found out she was gay.
