Just to mention a observation I made. When I was waking up I used to count those in attendance by age. Roughly 2/3 of them were 40 and over while 1/3 was 40 and under. Roughly with about 4% in the 18-25 year old bracket. It wasn't until I started going to ex-JW web sites that this became apparent to me. I have to say the congeegations have changed from when I was a kid, and if the trend continues there are going to be some massive problems in a few decades.

Brotherhood or sisterhood that is the question.
by sparrowdown inin a cong of about 70 publishers only about 50 regularly attend.. out of those 50 the majority are women, some single but a fair few whose husbands don't come anymore.. the only men that do attend are the elders, ms and a couple who tag along with their wives.. so in total there are probably only about 15 males in attendance at best.. we have had several local needs over the recent past encouraging sisters to turn over their male return visits.
to bros, and for bros that go in fs to ask to speak to the man of the house (but i am sure that is the same everywhere).
my question is are men more likely to wake up first and if so what could be the reason for this?.

Israel National News reports a most amazing story about JWs
by AndersonsInfo inhttp://www.israelnationalnews.com/news/flash.aspx/288677#.ux9165ao7l9.
court rejects missionary lawsuit against netanya schools for voiding leasethe tel aviv magistrates court has rejected a claim by a missionary group, saying that the school they had been renting space in unlawfully voided their contract , and asking the court to instruct the school to pay nis 108,000 in compensation and mental anguish, as well as legal expenses.. it began when a missionary group, via a non-profit organization called "mitzpe l'yisrael", rented space at the raziel school in netanya to conduct daily afternoon activities.
shortly after signing the rental agreement , the school authorities discovered that the group was, in reality, the notorious missionary sect of "jehovah's witnesses".

I have. I grew up with the guy. We lost contact when he moved. If you want to fish I could make some suggestions. With out been to specific of your actual location. Mention things like COS DOs, or certain ones who had notoriety. How it started with me I mentioned a brother that i was traumatized by as a kid e.g he was a Hitler. One thing led to another and hey presto I wasn't the only one he traumatized.

Where Is All The Money Going from Sales of WTB&TS `s Real Estate Properties.
by smiddy inwhat governmental requirements are their for full disclosure of the proceeds from sales of property made by a not for profit organization such as the wtb&ts.. how does the wtb&ts explain their charitable status when they do not provide any charitable benefits to anyone , when all their members , jehovahs witnesses are not employed by them , they are just volunteers.. does american law allow religous institutions to hide monetary transactions or is their full transparency regarding their use of their money.. how can a multi million $ publishing company , engaged in a multi million $ real estate organisation be considered as a not for profit organisation .. is their anything like an auditor general in the usa that needs to investigate these things ?.
just asking.. smiddy.

To be honest I have wondered that myself. How can an organization that is clearly running schemes that generate profit e.g real estate flipping, approved hotels, international conventions, still keep its not for profit status. I think some of the tactics they employ as well (putting hunchoes out side to intimidate people not complying by staying in a not recommended hotel) is highly unethical. I wonder what an auditor would think if he knew of these methods been employed.

The thing that dose my head in, is how they are prepared to spend countless hours and dollars trying to get a new convert, and yet do virtually nothing to retain it's current members. 2/3 of the youth are walking yet they do nothing. Just really frustrates me their ignorance.

by exwhyzee ini was in my company vehicle and i spotted some jw's going from door to door.. i circled around the block and pulled over.

You touched on a very good point here.
It took them nearly 3 years before they came looking for us. The Circuit Overseer came by and I told him the same thing I just told you. He was shocked and seemed perplexed that such a thing could happen. He asked me if I would like the latest magazines. I asked him why he would think I'd ever want to read anything .......
It just dose my head in this, how an organisation can spend billions of dollars and man hours trying to get new members, and yet can't spend half an hour to find out why some one has walked on them. Considering for every increase in publisher one baptised person is leaving, you would think it would be more effective to do a 50/50 split between those entering and those leaving. I guess Wt just dosnt understand this yet.

How do they get away with it as a charitable organization
by joe134cd ini was just reading a post, on the strong arm tactics used by the wtbts to glit it's members into complying with the recommended motels.
as hard as i find it to believe, it astounds me that they would put their hunchoes outside a none recommended motel, to take the names of those that wouldn't comply, to be harassed later on.
when i think of the other money making ventures they have got going (e.g rbc refurbishments, misleading comments about convention costs).

Thanks prologos & whoyourdaddy=But surly the IRS would come in and do audits on them. I mean hell or the IRS would have to do would look on here to get an ids of what is going on. That strong arming the approved motels is almost extortion.

EVIDENCE CONVENTION-ATTENDANCES ARE IN DECLINE?
by steve2 inthere are many threads on this forum about the stultifying tedium of the conventions.
memories of one convention merge with every other convention over the years with few sticking out as high points.. in recent years, there have been lots of anecdotal reports (primarily from western countries) of an astonishingly low number of baptismal candidates at these conventions, and in particular district conventions - especially compared to the higher numbers who presented for baptisms in earlier decades.
is this decline also reflected in general attendances at the conventions?.
-
joe134cd
To answer your questions. Yes attendance numbers are still given at conventions e.g "can all X number of people please stand and sing song number 33".
I think witness are more prepared to not go to a convention now than they would of in the past. I can give an example of this. I remember as a young kid been made to sit in the boiling hot sun when a convention was on. I remember been so uncomfortable and crying Because of the heat and yet Not one person left despite the temperature. Move forward a few years and I got to observe the exact same scenario. But this time by the end of the day the stadium had clearly emptied. It was noticable that many had left mid session because of the heat. To be honest I wouldn't of blamed them, but then on the other hand it dose show the different attitude.

When I think of the other money making ventures they have got going (e.g RBC refurbishments, misleading comments about convention costs). My question is purely from a charitable organization point of view of how do the legally get away with it. I would say using strong arm tactics to force members into a money making venture, would at least be seen as questionable from a tax point of view. There is no doubt about it they are trying to make a profit. Or would this perhaps be viewed like the rotary sausage sizzle, where the idea of it is to make money but it's for a good and charitable cause. Answers please.
