"Young people ask" book claims 97% youth masturbatory or seen porn...not J.W youth??

as a youg man this stunned me when i studied the original "youth" book 97% had done it so i thought soo that's pretty much everyone i guess the 3% were witness youth!

also "awake" claimed 90% of students had accessed porn at some time.

everyone is doing it i guess 10% are the witness youth...how dumb was i?.

I think to many JW youth leave the religion in the belief that they can go out into secular society that has a more liberal approach. To a point this is correct. However, this freedom comes at a cost, and there are still consequences for our actions e.g procreation and the best care for that life. Sadly, many in the above example soon come back to reality and find themselves in some very sorry states. I even personally knew of one ex jw who become a prostitute.

That been said I have often wondered, what the incidences of substance abuse, premarital sex, masterbation, domestic violence would be amongst the JWs. If it is higher than secular society then they surly do a good job of hiding it.

If you could pick out critical errors to the JWS religion what would it be ?

many that have come to this forum have left the jws religion and moved on with their lives but from a outsider's viewpoint what do think makes the jws religion wrong or incorrect as a active christian faith ?.

somethings come to mind such as its long continuous end times/armageddon soon doctrine which has really been a core doctrine for decades going right back to its beginning .. maybe they should have adopted the stance as other christian based faiths and adhered to jesus's own words when he said " no one knows of the time not even he ".

Even when I was PIMI I had come to the conclusion , decades before I left, that Jesus would of died on a cross. Just wish it was the thing that had woken me up.

Dad: yes it is.

Joe: I think there has to be more accountability for how these organisations choose to behave.

Dad: Yes I agree.

Joe: I have heard in America that Attorneys, are now not only suing the religious and secular institutions but also their pastors and employees who followed and implemented their advise. It would certainly want to make you think twice about been in a position of responsibility with these groups.

Dad : Well Satan is in control of this world, and if you play with fire then expect to be burnt.

Joe: Dad, I couldn’t agree more with what you have said and I hope with all the legal cases it bankrupts them. You are absolutely correct.

as there selling millions worth of halls around the world.

Although the word with the R&F is that the money is been used in Africa. I can’t recall hearing anything officially either on jw. Borg, or in print stating otherwise.

What made you walk out on the "Truth"?

i had a legal divorce from my ex wife( law of the land).

i was told not to expect to get remarried because my divorce was not legal to watchtower.. my divorce and situation seem to be a talk of gossip and even a many local needs talks.

i wanted to take some more schooling to get a better job, there was a local needs talk on higher education and it's dangers.

I think the thing that finally made me realise the whole thing was a sham. A work colleague questioned me about the divorce rate in various Christian faiths. Innocent enough question. Unfortunately for watchtower it wasn’t so favourable, as I wasn’t able to find any statistical answers in the literature. With no other options I decided to google it. Up came JWs facts and the rest is history.

What Do You Know of JWs Getting Away With Stuff?

i realized that teenagers and young witness adults were getting away with murder per my daughter.

she told me that all these exemplary young people featured at assemblies and conventions were not real good examples.

after she got married years ago to a “ worldly “ man, she told me about all the kids who were fornicating and getting drunk and high, including elder’s kids.

I knew of a teenager who was show cased as at an assembly as an exemplary publisher. Literally weeks later she got DFed.

What Were You or Someone You Knew Counseled For That Was Ridiculous?

back in the day, tons of witnesses were brought in the “back room “ to be counseled by elders because of their dress and grooming.

some elders frowned on mustaches or hair that went past a certain point on a male.

women were regularly harassed because their skirt was too long or too short or had a slit on the side.

I was told by my best friend father, who was a self righteous SOB elder. They wouldn’t be going to see Star Wars at the movies because it had the word “War” in it.

Raising a teenager outside of “the truth”

i was raised as a jw and left the group as many of the teachings don’t align with my core values.

now, forward almost 10 years, my wife and i are raising our kids through puberty and i have to admit, this challenge is not easy and seems to be even more difficult in that my own upbringing was very different.

i find it hard to compare how i was raised with what i now must do for my own kids.
