Lost a Good Friend in Death this Weekend- He Worked Part Time For Me

Sorry Flipper....It just seems shite happens.
A week ago a young man here in our little town committed suicide. He was a nice kid that everyone liked. His funeral was at the Fairgrounds stadium. It has been the saddest thing to deal with mentally.
It just hurts so much when someone close to you dies without much warning. I have employees and some of them are closer to me than some of my close relatives. After you see them everyday for years they become close to you in many ways. You feel their struggles. You know all of the challenges they face and they still give over a hundred percent doing thier jobs.
I am just sorry.

Hey, I'm sorry I didn't mean any disrespect towards Walmart employees. I read Sam Walton's autobiograhy a few years ago. He was one determined man. Started out bringing in lots of goods to a Ben Franklin store he managed in the back of his old stationwagon! It's an amazing story. My wife has spent a good part of her working life in retail. If I didnt already have a job I like I would not hesitate for a minute to work at Walmart. My daughter and I were nice and listened to this young checkout person intently. I am sure that I know her family, parents and grandparents. I could have played around a little bit asking her some pointed questions, etc. I could have also identified my self as an apostate! But she was a nice kid and working hard. What can you say? She is not to blame for the fix she is in and trapped probably forever. She must be the one of the 3 of 10 that stick around with JW's when she grew up.

by POs Son inabout two years ago, i read a post on jwd asking if there was anyone from the xyz congregation.
recognizing this as the congregation in which i was raised, i made contact with the poster.

That is so great! I keep hoping that someone will make contact with me. I find it hard to believe that out of the hundreds of witnesses that I knew...no one so far has stepped up to the plate. I have not lost hope though. This post consitutes number 300!

Was in Walmart a couple of weeks ago helping my daughter do some shopping for college supplies. My daughter is very outgoing and outspoken. It's going to be her first year of college. The Walmart checkout girl was same age as my daughter. As she was checking out the goods my daughter piped up and ask the young checker if she was going to college this year? The answer that came back was "I am sharing in a educational work with my church.....I seen it coming.....yes, she went on to say she was one of Jehovah's Witnesses. We did not raise our daughter to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses. We both about fell over. When we got out to the car, I said to my daughter-that could be you working at Walmart and getting your education by a "ministry work". My dear daughter said..."then I would never get past working at Walmart" A life lesson at Walmart.

JW-Based Names for JW-Based Businesses
by Nosferatu inwhile doing some job hunting, i came across an ad for a cleaning business called "paradise cleaning" or something like that.
i'd think it's a 99% chance that the company is a bunch of jws.
what are some of the goofy names you've seen for jw's home businesses?

For the converts: Do you ever feel your life has come full circle?
by truthseeker injust a thought for those of you who converted to jwdom.. now that you're out, or in the process of leaving, do you feel that your life has come more or less full circle?.
do you feel that you're back where you started?.

There is huge gaping hole of 30 years that are missing in my circle.....but yes, I have come full circle.
Just wish I had those 30years back. I know the outcomes would have been different not converting to JW-ism.
I have great wife and a lovely daughter from JW land so all was not lost.

Just want to introduce myself
by cjones inhi everyone, i have been lurking for a very long time and have been pretty much blown away and sickened by what i have learned on this discussion forum (this is actually the first forum i had ever visted).
i am married to man who was not a jw when i met him (although he was raised as one from his early teens but left when he was in his 20's, oh and that was when he started attending college), to make a long story short we met, fell in love, got married, had a few children and then 20 yrs later he started attending the "meetings" or better yet "the indoctrination sessions" again, which btw he did not tell me that that was what he was doing!!
shortly thereafter i began noticing changes in his personality, and it wasn't for the better.

Ms. Jones:
Welcome. Sorry to hear about your situation. Sometimes life can take some confusing turns. I don't have anything more to offer than what has already been said here. Just know you are among friends. If your marriage is good otherwise maybe you can find some common ground. I still believe in a higher power so I am will ask of something for you tonight.
Take care.
