I remember on 2 occasions when witnessing with pioneers where they kept people at the door for ages. The householders were rolling their eyes and clearly too nice to tell us to go away or refuse the publications. These pioneers later relayed these experience on stage & exaggerated EVERYTHING to the point of one pioneer saying that they had asked for a study & was just praying to God for help and - voila - we knocked on the door. It was clearly a lie. So some of those experiences relayed even at the meetings are lies. Not surprising I guess since the whole religion is based on lies, lies & more lies...

Is it me or were the experiences at the assemblies really contrived?
by keyser soze inmy favorite were the ones where they were reading a wt publication in the break room at work, and an inquisitive co-worker, thirsty for spiritual knowledge approaches them.
this leads to an informal witness, which eventually leads to bible study and baptism.. in all my years of working, i've never had anyone show the slightest bit of interest in what i was reading while i was on my break at work.
but as i said, maybe it's just me..

Were you beaten as a child?
by purrpurr ini've been confronting my mother with her dubious parenting skills (abuse) of me as a child.
particularly the beatings i would get with the wooden spoon.
not a light smack but hitting me as hard as she could for as long as she could.

The wooden spoon was common when I was young though my mum never did that to us - we got a smack on the butt & not very hard either. But my dad was another story. One day he hit my sister so badly round the head she ended up in hospital... The doctors were concerned she may have brain damage but lucky she didn't. I can never forget seeing my sisters bloodied face, shirt front & walls.... Not something a 7 year old should experience. -

Sweet 16 - Happy Birthday to Us !
by Simon init's the forum's 16th birthday today!.
amazing that not only have we lasted so long but we're still thriving and growing.. thanks to all the people and often colorful characters who've contributed to the site over the years.
some are still here with us, some have since moved on, but all have touched each others lives in some way along our different journeys.. .

How was your day/ week thread?
by The Rebel inthis thread is for when you have to say something to get it out of the system, whether it is happy or sad.
my reason for stating the thread is that on occasion some threads do tend to get a little heated here, and maybe this thread will enable us to reflect on the important fact, we are real people and not just dots on a computer screen.. i would love to start the thread with a bang, but nothing of particular interest has happened, only i do hope the weather improves as the climate i live in has been sadly chilly for the time of year, (if you get the deeper meaning).

How did you feel when they eliminated the Con. Book Study?
by Freeandclear inyears ago when i was "in" i loved the book study.

mainly because it was a small group.

Thanks George... That was when I was irregular but before I learnt TATT... I was only going to the Sunday meetings at that time. I was very disheartened with some of my personal experiences with some so-called spiritual JW's which left me feeling very hurt & rejected. It was about 3 years later I came across this site - and then everything started to fall in place... -

by greenhornet init embarrassed me.
when i was young my folks made me wear one and i opened it up and took the paper out making it look like it fell out.
after my folks ask what happen i said i dont know.

I stopped wearing them after the pin wrecked one of my outfits. And I always took it off when we went out coz that was just too embarrassing... -

Rivalry among the sisters
by Esmeralda001 inwhen i was first introduced to the "truth", i was so distracted by the love and affection that the members were showing me that i was ready to convert into the religion without thinking twice.
i was conviced that jws were god's people (i still think some of them are).
i made it my goal to get baptized as i wanted to be part of the "only" religion that produce such good people.

As a born in, I experienced much the same. There were those 'sisters' that always had something to say about my hair, my clothes, my car, my employment, my weight, how much money I earned, what I spent my money on, how much I spent, why I needed to constantly buy new things, why I had a very active social life, who my friends were, who I spoke with - the list goes on. I also have an older brother so I knew a lot of his friends well which also didn't go down well with many 'sisters'... Yes, there was those that didn't like me much & made a life out of bitching about me... But learnt early on not to give a shit what they thought...
