[endif]i had a diner with the neighbors... they don't know i'm a jw cause i don't tell people anymore about it.
somehow, the topic of cults came up and one of my neighbors said that the jw require 10% of their income to go to the church.
As a full blown 'apostate' it still annoys me when people make false claims about JWs - or they call them "Jehovah Witnesses" (which shows how little they know about them - missing the 's in case you missed it)
The truth is damning enough - no need to support exagerations.

i remember as a kid (in the late 80's early 90's) seeing ray franz picture in some kind of publication and being told by my mother that he was a gb member that became an apostate and wrote a book.. does anyone know what publication this could have been?

after the soldiers left, the islanders built bamboo planes and control towers and cleared makeshift runways and talked nonsense into coconut headsets.

He begins by saying that we have to be careful when imitating humans as they are imperfect - but we can imitate EVERYTHING about angels as they are perfect. (And what about the angels that became demons? What about the angel that became Satan? What about the angels that had sex with earthly women?) He does address the angels that had sex later on, but its totaly contradictory.
He has a large part going on about how humble the angels are - then immediately following this he goes into great detail about how they are like "super hero's".

something i have struggled with over the last few years, do i have a responsibility as an "apostate" to warn/extract others from the wtbts?.
one part of me says "damn right you do", its a frikken cult.
how would you feel about someone who failed to warn you about a dangerous organization, whether its a religion or something else.. the other part of me says "leave it alone".
It's not the same.
You can warn a JW, provide them with the info that the GB conceils from them - then leave it up to them.
They JW's provide you the 'loaded' information for everlasting life etc - then brainwash you, emotionally blackmail you, so you don't ever leave.
I wouldn't say apostates have a 'responsibility' - but me personally, I feel like I need to try and help my friends and family at least by providing them with the info that was withheld from me. If I didn't, I would feel like I copped out a bit.
i'm an athiest.. i've read coc and heard that in search of christian freedom is more about debunking scriptural things the jw's believe.
with respect to ray franz, i'm not so interested in this as i view it as debunking one fairy tale to believe another fairytale.. but to people who've read it is there any other info therein that i might find interesting?
more info about what goes on in the gb, or ray's comments on particular decisions or scandals.. if it's 100% focusing on biblical nonsense i'm not too keen on ordering it - but if there's other stuff in it i might..
