The article "Will you make sacrifices" is making me sick...
Our money. Significant funds are needed to support Kingdom activities (and lawsuits). Each year tens of millions of dollars are spent caring for the expenses of traveling overseers, special pioneers, and missionaries (and lawsuits). Since 1999, over 24,500 Kingdom Halls have been built in lands with limited resources. Yet, nearly 6,400 additional Kingdom Halls are still needed (6400 freely built kingdom halls to come). Each month some 100 million copies of the Watchtower and Awake! magazines are printed. This is all supported by your voluntary donations. (what about the hedge funds?)
Yet, even brothers with limited resources value the privilege of giving. It is pleasing to Jehovah when the materially poor are impelled to give cheerfully.
They were in “deep poverty,” yet they begged for the privilege of helping with the project at hand
Much hard work is needed in order to support Kingdom interests. May all of us prayerfully consider how we can have as large a share as possible. You can be confident that the rewards are great now and will be even greater “in the coming system of things.
Wow, reading that article just made me realize that the GB are not deluded - that time has passed, there will be no crisis of concience for any of them. They know full well what they are doing.
The apostate article too is disgusting. This magazine is a keeper for cult propaganda techniques!

Riley Trust accounts - royalty income for the WTBTS closing on 1 million dollars per annum now
by dozy inhttp://990s.foundationcenter.org/990_pdf_archive/386/386043103/386043103_201204_990.pdf.
continues to be a good little earner for the wtbts - donated 750k dollars in 2012 & the royalties seem to be rising year on year.
i just wonder how much knowledge of this income stream the average rank & file jw member is aware of when they are increasingly called on to pay for the wtbts building projects..

Who is your favorite "Apostate"? Who helped you see the truth about "The Truth"?
by minimus ini would have to say that ray franz was the biggest influence for me.. when i first got on this board, a poster by the name of james, a former bethelite and organization heavy, helped me understand a lot of the inner workings in the upper echelons of the society.. .
and of course, farkel's common sense approach was (usually) helpful..

Just replace 'Church of Scientology' with 'Jehovah's Witnesses' as you read this article.
Appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show for her first interview since abruptly leaving the Church of Scientology ((Jehovah's Witnesses)) in July, Leah Remini revealed she's been having a difficult time adjusting to the consequences.
"I hear it's different than leaving another religion, are you okay?" DeGeneres asked her.
Taking a big sip from her coffee cup, Remini, 43, paused before replying, "I'm okay. I'm okay. It's hard. We've lost friends that can no longer talk to us who are still in the organisation."
"That is a thing, when you leave the church, they can't talk to you and you can't talk to them ...?" asked DeGeneres.
"Correct," said Remini, who has joined the new cast of Dancing with the Stars, confirming reports that followers of the controversial religion are told to shun people who decide to leave the church.
"And these are friends that we've had for dozens of years," she continued. "But I have great friends that are not in the church that have stood by us, and our family is stronger, we're together, and that's all I could ask for."
Still, Remini admits the break from the church has not been easy. "It's all we ever really knew," the actress tells DeGeneres of her long-standing relationship with Scientology, which began when Remini's mother joined the child "when we were very young."
Eventually - Remini says her differences with the church were too concerning to ignore: "Over time, my eyes opened and I just could no longer be affiliated with the organisation - and my family felt the same way - so we left."
In early July, it was reported that Remini had decided to quit the controversial religion, citing a source's claim that the 43-year-old actress had been subjected to years of "interrogations" and "thought modification," along with policies preventing members to question the leadership of David Miscavige ((The Governing Body)).
Remini later issued a statement to WHO: "I wish to share my sincere and heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming positive response I have received from the media, my colleagues, and from fans around the world. I am truly grateful and thankful for all your support.

What gives you away as a (former) JW?
by perfect1 inthese days my jw past stay safely under wraps from nearly everyone.. i dont dig it up- and i see no need to talk about it with anyone.. sometimes i feel as if my past is a large and terrible secret, and i will be found out eventually.
people can sense i am different.
i never talk about my family.. i guess people chalk it up to being a private person or let me be a mystery.. however, there is one thing that i feel completely reveals me as having been raised a jehovahs witness:.

A lack of long term friends.
Most people I know have friends that reach back to their childhood and school days. Even if they don't stay in touch they'll occassionally say something like "I bumped into an old mate the other day, hadn't seen each other for years - we had a beer and chatted about the good old days."
What could I say? "I bumped into a childhood friend the other day - he crossed the road to avoid talking to me."
