Rationally, I'm merely pointing out that every OPPORTUNITY for demonstrating something HIGHER than man's knowledge is failed time and again.
I agree, in that the very act of attempting to demonstrate or exhibit requires some small isolated and definable thing (god/deity) that can be objectively witnesses and demonstrated as higher than man's knowledge; and this must always fail as our gods and deities are merely products of the mind, as is all man's knowledge. They are one in the same. So, like a snake eating it's tail, it's doomed to failure.
This does not negate the fact that the entire universe came into being without man's knowledge. Is it so irrational then to sense there is a greater intelligence than that which our brains contain? Of course to discover such would require a looking past the confines of all mental knowledge, concepts, abstracts and gods.
Easily said, but problem is we come to identify "self" as the contents of the mind. So then there can be great inhibition to question not just our gods which have been weaved into our conceptual identity, but our entire believed construct of "self" and universe. Yet, this is the doorway, to allow conscious-awareness to nonjudgmentally and radically investigate and uncover what is false-self and false-reality that the mind has assembled. When what is false is clearly seen, what remains -- is true; and in this undeniable realization of our genuine Identity, the confusing dualities of self and universe -- ends.

Milky Way solar system? Perhaps some of us could use a refresher course in astronomy as desperately as I need to learn how to spell.
What I continually find intriguing, is how people can so unquestionably and tenaciously attribute the Bible-deity for all existence. How pray-tell, does what is INFINITELY vast, originate from some thing so moronically human-like and small? and what is it in us that creates the illusion that it is actually honourable and wise to shrink and belittle it to such?
If we are incapable of pondering the blatant obviousness of this absurdity through, then it's little wonder we so easily come to cherish fairy-tails and myths.
Certainly the true source and sustenance of all universes (there may be countless universes) must be greater still than all existence and not so severely diminutive as an anthropomorphic tribal deity. If there ever was a glass-darkly we can place before our eyes, it a book we have come to know as The Holy Bible.

Are Jw's trained to be just plain mean spirited?
by AK - Jeff innot long ago, i would have defended them slightly with opinions about those 'under mind control' etc.
but the further i get from jw think, the more i believe that jw's are just plain mean and hateful asses!
two situations that i relate in my life.. 1- an elder i know works in a grocery store.

What else can we expect from them but pathological behavior?
I feel the best we can do for them is show our compassion and understanding; as hatred and bitterness never heal any ones ills.

Coming to terms with your death - immortality options
by Crumpet ini must say its terribly hard to dredge up any enthusiasm for today or even this week at work, but i dont feel depressed.
the weather has been so undecided these last few weeks, a little sun, but mostly pregnant clouds breaking water over our heads several times a day.
its also quite warm and clammy as if we are in a limbo land between seasons and there is little in terms of beauty to redeem it.

Are you completely clear on the fact that everything you have ever believed in, thought about and pondered, has not given you the peace you seek? If so, and if you are sincerely unwilling to put up with the confusion and lack of relief any longer, it may be time for you to radically change the direction of your quest. Ready?
Who is it, really, that is concerned with death? Forget everything you think you know, and quietly and nonjudgmentally investigate within. Thoroughly check all the beliefs the mind presents regarding "self", and all the senses the body presents as "self", and see if you can genuinely find yourself in any of it. Such inquiry requires total honesty and an agonizing willingness to discover what is truly real, and what is not...at any cost. Thorough inner investigation can seemingly take moments or years. Don't be concerned with time. What is true??? What are you, really???
A moment will arise, an awakening to the endless and unconditional purity of that which is closer than all phenominal experience. That, which is untouched by events in time and space. That, which silently bears witness to the universe of things. That, which looks through those eyes right now. Then, you will unequivocally know what you truly are (though the mind will never be able to grasp it), and your concerns will be over.
Realization of your natural authentic Self, is all you need. It's here always. It just needs to be seen.

However, the Bible is the one to turn to when questioning. I know this because I questioned. Because of God's love for me, He began to give me answers when I sincerely spent time with His Word. So... the Bible, God's Word, God's speaking to me, was the only answer for me. Truth was very plain. I am very thankful for His mercy and unconditional love toward me that while I was a sinner, He offered himself to take my place of punishment. An awesome God, I must say. And the only God that is alive and well.
I'm sure you mean well, a friend. However, guiding people to an archaic tribal story book does not give us truth, so much as blind us to it. Truth, is what IS, what is actual and real. Truth, is not in conceptual memories of past, or in make-believe fantasies of future, not in beliefs of any kind, but rather found only within the actual present moment of vibrant conscious aliveness and be-ing. Generally it is when we are so deeply asleep, so completely ignorant, blind, numb and oblivious to reality that we feel a need to identify our life with a book and its shallow and empty definitions of "significance", "meaning", and "truth". The stories and little god-images you have chiseled within the dark corners of your mind, have made you into a well-meaning peddler of sedative-hypnotics and trinkets. Sadly, some will follow you into oblivion. I wish you the best, j
