I feel you pretty much said it LB.

one thing all witnesses have had in common is the belief that they would someday inherit everlasting life.
as more and more express the thought that they really don't have much hope for the future, has anything replaced the hope of eternal life in paradise earth?
or are we ultimately, hopeless?

regarding the wt's report for the period 2001 - 2002, i guess many here will agree the numbers seem to be coming back up again.
it was interesting to notice how the previous years many of the so called "developed" nations namely the u.s.a., canada, and many eu leading nations such as germany, the netherlands, britain, france, and so on actually reported decrease in their numbers.the only increase came back then from the called "under developing" nations.
this years there seems to be a very significant rebound to those negative figures.
The sword rattling and talks of war over the last year or so has freaked a lot of people out. Fear, may be the major contributing factor for the increase....if it is a valid one. JamesT
maybe i was just curious to hear what they were going to discuss.
i went to the two day circuit assembly.
for those who wonder, its theme was taken from psalms 37:3 it's theme trust in jehovah and do good.
Welcome Ikhandi,
Whatever you choose to do, wouldn't you first like to be informed?
I suggest reading Crisis of Conscience, by Raymond Franz
A History of god, by Karen Armstrong
and
The Christ Conspiracy, by Acharya S.
Then you will at least not be stumbling back in totally blind.

god)?
Sure JT, When we allow our minds to create an image of the Source of this magnificent Universe we immediately set up a factious drama in which God is a player. When we anthropomorphize God and make It into a person or invisible entity, we have taken what is Infinite and without bounds, and made it into a "thing", an object....just another scrap in a far bigger universe. The mind doesn't like players without a play, so it creates a human drama were God thinks and acts like a man....and not a very nice one at that. It creates a drama where we are separate from the Source and we then need to fight and scratch our way back. A drama where there are good guys and bad guys....and of course we are always the ones with the white hat: the ones with the "true" belief system or religion. There's really nothing wrong with this, except when we believe it is real. Then we have millions upon millions dying and being tortured and condemned in the name of God. We find ourselves feeling separate and apart, not only from God, but from all humanity and nature, and thus we come to view others and nature as something we must fight and protect ourselves against. In a way we have died and gone to hell....for we feel cut-off from our true Sustenance. As long as we continue to not investigate this grand drama, we will be dragged right along with it, like being swept by a strong current. Of course to bring into question what we have for so long taken for granted as real, is a little radical. JamesT
*sigh* you know when you want something really, really bad, and suddenly you get it, and you wonder if its gonna last, and if its for real?
i got that now with my dad.
after 23 years of not being in touch with the man, i am having a good relation with him.
Viv,
I can only back up what some others have already said.
When you are with your dad, be there very present with him; without thoughts or judgments or worries or commentaries about what was, or should have been or what will be in some abstract future time.
Don't let your mind steal from you what you have now. Enjoy.

As long as people continue to shrink, belittle and anthropomorphize God into just some other player in a bigger universe, silly stories like this will flourish. JamesT
.
it seems the more time goes by, the more i miss being a jw.. i miss my friends.
i miss the feeling of safety of the group.. i miss having hope.. i miss it a lot..
Wow, what a lot of excellent and caring replies. There is little I can add. It sounds like a case of "the grass is always greener...". This is a pretty normal sense unless we find a wholeness and peace within ourselves that can not be taken away,,no matter. Most of us live our lives with a gaping hole inside, and spend the rest of our lives trying to fill it with people, places and things. The only thing that is helping me is being present with life as it is. accepting it and embracing it; without the mental noise of judgment and commentary. When we forget about the story of our tiny fragmented needy self, that we think we are, things can look quite beautiful without changing anything or going anywhere. JamesT
another question for everyone.
i have read through some of the threads, posts or whatever and even though there is a sense of disagreement over witnesses and the society, their way of handling the words of the bible.
i was curious to know if anyone does believe jehovah is his name?
Most people, especially Christians, Jews and Moslems believe in a tiny anthropomorphized person god, which is simply a creation of the carnal mind. You can call him Tinky, if you like. He's a worthless and vile entity at best. I too would agree with the Toa on this one. "The god that can be named is not the True God". You may find the book: A History of God, very interesting and educational. JamesT
