I heard on the radio once how some fellows in world war II would get their diesels running in the middle of winter by having someone hold a burning newspaper over the carburetor intake while the other guy cranked the ignition. I wouldn't recommend it though. JamesT

Got My First Diesel. But...
by Englishman ini finally decided it was time to throw away my decrepit austin montego and get something for work that was a little less..well, tatty.. i need to carry ladders and tools and things.
however having had the experience of losing (stolen, actually) the tools from a van on 2 occasions, i know the value of having a car for work that has at least got a boot large enough to be able to hold my gear, without actually advertising the fact that, hey look, easy pickings!.
so, a car is what i needed.

Sheila is so right. Perhaps it's because she was born in Ogden (not likely...but perhaps).
It has been said that "those concerned with what happens after death, that are not alive now."
I have found that life becomes much more beautiful and meaningful when I just open to what the universe is presenting to me in this moment -- which is really all we have. Life is tingly and warm when it is lived without thinking about it.
So, the question is not what will happen, but "what is?"

That was good, which reminds me of the little Nancy one (don't ask why).
Little Nancy was in the garden filling in a hole in the dirt, when her neighbor peered over the fence. Interested in what the cheeky-faced youngster was up to, he politely asked, "What are you doing, there, Nancy?"
"My goldfish died," replied Nancy tearfully without looking up,
The neighbor was very concerned. "That's an awfully big hole for a goldfish, isn't it?"
Nancy patted down the last heap of dirt and then replied, "That's because he's inside your fucking cat."

The Three Hs...(Another Try)
by Defender ini do not know why my previous post was truncated.
here goes another try.... in answering the question about why do jws continue to believe whatever the society prints and postulates we must start with an inward look at ourselves.
every person had his or her own reason to become a jw.

Note: the first paragraph in my reply was a "quote". The quote-thingy doesn't seem to be working yet, nor is the edit-thingy.....that I could find.

In order to really abandon JW teachings and free ourselves from their traps, we had to develop another essential quality and that is courage, courage to examine their history and teachings, courage to have an independent thinking ability.
Defender,
Do you have the "essential quality", the "courage" to examine your history? Do you have the courage to have "independent thinking ability"?
Have you the courage to read books such as: The History of God, by Karen Armstrong; and The Christ Conspiracy, by Acharya S.? (there are many more along these lines but I have not read them).
Do you have the courage to free yourself from the "traps" of your own religious beliefs? Or will you continue to defend them, as the Jehovah's Witnesses defend theirs?
I do not wish to offend you. But this is a serious subject, is it not?

For those of you raise in the "truth" a Question
by obiwan ini myself was raised in the "truth" til i was df'd at the age of 21. i have often wondered that if i were allowed to grow up just as every other child did in the u.s. would i have been interested in looking at the organization and taking interest?
do any of you think and wonder the same thing?

I would give a definite no, to that one. If I had not been raised in the "truth", I would never have accepted it. The idea of a god that killed, was repugnant to me. It ate at my soul. I "tried" to be a good Witness in my early life, only because it was so deeply programmed into me. Eventually my heart screamed out, and I could no longer pray to such a god, and I was disfellowshipped. JamesT

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. It doesn't hurt to loan yourself out, or play along with other peoples game...sometimes. It can be the friendly, compassionate, polite and wise thing to do. Just shake your head yes and agree with a smile, out of respect for your grandfather. JamesT

I need some help with mom
by armorgan inmy mom is 54 years old and the bitter and unhappy result of a lifetime of sadness that is i believe a direct result of the watchtowers grip on her life and the family.
she has basically decided that she no longer needs god.
it seems as if she blames jehovah for her unhappiness.

Hello Armorgan, welcome to the board.
Does your mom have a puter? Perhaps coming here would do her some good.

This is how I feel now
by Liquidizer ina broken heart

Liq, I know those feelings. Even, many who are active on the outside, are empty inside. It could be a spiritual crisis, where you yearn for a deeper connection with life. If this is true, I would suggest books like: The Power of Now, by Eckhart Tolle http://www.eckharttolle.com/ which gently guide us deeper into ourselves and this moment to find the wholeness that is already there. Regarding the "god" of the Watchtower
by Marcos inexplain something to me, please.. has anyone noticed the similarity of the god of the watchtower (as they portray him) to allah?
i know very little about islam.
i have read a little and frankly am not interested (mark me down as a "not at home").. i must state that i use the word god in small letters because i don't believe that the wt revers jehovah other than in name only.

As the Realist said, the Christians and Moslems are branched from the Jews who worship a tiny, tribal, anthropomorphized, male god of war. This god evolves and changes somewhat as the needs require, which is why the Bible-god is so insane and confusing. It is all just a creation of the carnal mind. You may find the book A History of God, by Karen Armstrong, helpful. JamesT
