Got this letter

throughout the years after having come to know through your marriage to my daughter you have been a very kind and thoughtful person, sometimes more than my own son.

i don't think that a mother-in-law could want a finer person for a son than you.

however, it is very unfortunate that i will have to change the way that i will relate to you now and in the future.

Most dubs are not particularly quick learners. They are not taught to think for themselves. This is patently obvious in her letters. She's supressing *her* feelings and blindly following a heartless org that has caused a great deal of abuse and suffering for family members.

Could not the exact same thing of been said of you or me at one point? Yet, we woke up, we learned. Shouldn't we, who know better, be offering her the same opportunity? If anyone is going to offer a friendly hand, it has to be us, for it certainly will not be offered from a dedicated Witness.

Good observations Metatron. No argument here.

One of the definitions of idolatry is: excessive or blind adoration, reverence, devotion, etc..

If that doesn't fit the Witnesses love affair with the "Organization" like a glove, nothing does.

Witnesses are Spiritually Starving

meeting attendance and peddling magazines - instead of emphasizing active compassion and ethical qualities.

Why stop with the Witnesses? religion is "spiritually starving". They have shrunk and diminished what is Infinite into a finite deity that punishes and rewards, which breeds fear and greed, the two things most destructive of "spirituality". JamesT

Reconciling with Dad

as you may or may not know from previous posts, i am a born & raised jw who just drifted away (no df/da) from a father and two sisters who still keep the jw faith.

and while my father is aware that i have "apostate" beliefs of some kind, he prefers not to hear of it.

as a result, we still enjoy each other's company and nobody has "shunned" me.

There comes a time to forget about religion and beliefs about God. They are carnal creations that have no validity or truth anyway. The finite mind can not grasp the Infinity of what the word "God" points to. Beliefs are not important.

What is important is the time spent with your father and the love you both share. Be there for him and appreciate his warmth. Chances are he will be gone soon.

I thought it was a fairly respectable letter, from someone who loves you like a son, but is torn by her beliefs. You could have received far worse.

You can do one of two things: Let her and her religion become your teacher, by following in their footsteps. Shun her as she shuns you. Lower yourself to her level, or below.

Or, you can show that real love has nothing to do with religion, and has to do with who we are. Show her love and respect no matter what her actions are....simply because you are a caring person. You never know....she may learn from you.

let the battle commence..

well the inevitable has happened... my mother now knows without a shadow of a doubt that i no longer attend the kh, and that the 'close' sister that i had spoken to about the above, is heartbroken (aaahhhh) that i have made such a momentous decision (how dare i) without talking to the family first..... note : i am 42 years old, 4 children, married for 16 years, lived away from my 'home' for 20 years...and the youngest daughter out of four girls, and i am still thought of as being unable to make my own decisions (as homer would say 'doh!)..

i have with held speaking to my mother for the simple reason that she is very ill, and i did not want to add to her burden, and then be blamed for her death.. she is a strong character, and has raised her family in the 'truth', my dad was not interested in the jw's...but i doubt if i will get any support from him, as he will back my mam, as she is the strong one in the relationship, and heaven help him if he were to disagree with her!!!

anyway, what would i have done without mr nightwarrior, he has been great beyond words, but sadly my mother has decided that he is the one to blame, and (wait for it).... he is part of the 'sweet talking evil slave class'................ when my mother put this to my yesterday on the telephone i politely put the phone down on her... how dare she!

I'm curious. Are there sites which severely criticize other religions?

i am asking this because i was always taught that the reason there are so many anti-wts sites is because witnesses have the true religion, and are therefore a special target of satan.

satan already "has" the persons in all the other religions, so he doesn't need to whip them up into a frenzy over the lamentable things going on in their particular churches.

satan does, however, use persons (ostensibly, like me) to slander the true god and his organization.

This may seem outside of your questions but it's not. That is an interesting way to look at things; and it fits in perfect with the Witness programming that you are seemingly, still under. Though I know you probably don't want to hear it, it comes down to this: as long as you continue to embrace the carnal idea of a tiny anthropomorphized "person" god, a god that judges, kills and condemns, you are going to continue in confused drama. When you reduce and diminish what is Infinite, into simply another player in a bigger universe, you set the stage for a dramatic play. And, you are going to live your life in fear of pissing him off. There is a root to your problems, you need to go there. JamesT

Outside of death or a serious accident, I would say NO. My dad loved riding bikes. I love riding bikes. It's a gene thing like the color of your eyes. Go for it, before your too old a fart to do it. JamesT

hello, after one year of lurking i finally decided to write, introduce myself and tell my short story .

after being jw for more than 20 years, one year and 4 months ago, my husband read some news in internet.

it was the un affair.. i cant use any more words that have been already used to express what it ment to us to discover what we did.
