You are so right longhairgirl, when I got disfellowshipped and met with the committee, I remember looking at 2 of them and thinking "neither one of you have spoken one word to me in the 3 years I had been in that congregation and now they get to decide on whether my family can talk to me or not. One of them, the one that was the hardest on me ended up getting disfellowshipped about 5 years later for molesting the young boys in the congregation. Of course they didn't turn him in to the authorities.

What did they all do on "worldly holidays" when you were home alone?
by LongHairGal ini always hated being alone on thanksgiving or christmas.
what bothered me was that if it were known you accepted an invitation by relatives it was frowned upon.
but what got to me was this: is god more pleased that i am home looking at four walls alone rather than being over somebody's house??

JW working the obituaries
by Icansaylucky ini was reading my local paper this morning and there was a letter to the editor.
the writer had recently lost a child and the child's obituary was recently printed in our paper.
the writer said she received a letter with a "jehovah witness tract" called "what help for dead loved ones?

Don't worry swiftbreeze, pretty soon it'll will be like second nature to know how to respond to people. I think it was easier for me to get into the groove of things in the "world" because even as a witness I thought all the petty little rules were ridiculous and petty.

Yes Sunspot, I know exactly what you're saying, the silence when someone sneezes. It's almost like they make a point to make sure everyone knows that they're not going to say the horrible God Bless You, they may as well start filing their nails and yawning to show how far they are from saying it. When I first left the Witnesses and was associating with regular people and they would say Bless you, I would feel smile awkwardly and say thanks. Being raised a Witness makes you socially challanged in so many ways. My step mother a non witness told me that she said to my brother who is a 40 year old witness "Happy Thanksgiving" and he just sat there and stared and said "I don't know what to say" How about "Thank you" geezzzzz!

Unique1, I too have a problem with saying Bless you, but not because of guilt or anything, I just think it's a pointless cliche'. My daughter acts offended if I don't say it when she sneezes. I don't have a problem saying lucky at all. My forum name is representative of being liberated from all the ridiculous restrictions and unjust guilt that I felt as a Witty for so many years. How long have you been an inactive witness or are you still partially in? I've been out for 25 years so I've adjusted, but the first several years was like learing to walk all over again.

Unique1, that made me sad that you were treated like that for not knowing what a white wreath was for. I would have done the same thing you did. To this day I can not work in a sales position because of the feeling of pushing something on someone or fear of rejection.

Excellent letter Spook, make sure you update us with their responses if you get one. I love the "?" mark in Jehovah?s Witnesses.

outaservice, I'm not sure how old it is and I can't look because I sent it to my mom to read. 1999 rings a bell though so it's not that old. The ebay seller's ebay name is mj7591 and he has all kinds of interesting anti witness literature. He has a book about the Chris Longo murders supposively written by Chris Longon's witness mother. Strangely he has a $10,000 starting bid on it. I wrote him and asked him why it was $10,000 and I never got an answer. See if this works: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=378&item=4546963956&rd=1 You may be able to get it cheaper on Amazon, just do a search for it.

Wow, I guess either I was out of the loop when I was a Witness or this is something that happened after I escaped. I've been out since 1980. I love the Black Sabbath hat story, I would love to have seen that.

I was reading my local paper this morning and there was a letter to the Editor. The writer had recently lost a child and the child's obituary was recently printed in our paper. The writer said she received a letter with a "Jehovah Witness Tract" called "What help for dead loved ones?" She was appalled that someone was working the obits and said it was "intrusive, thoughtless, and abominably bad taste". Has anyone ever heard of witnesses doing this? Or is this the masterpiece of just one zealot?
