I wonder if they'll keep preaching no matter what, like the bible instructs, listening to the voice of god rather than men's?
What I find interesting is that this comes from a community, and not state or provincial gov.. If they choose to ignore it, they will actually meet people who have lobbyied this on a local level. It could get ugly if they meet someone who was adamant about it.
I'm sure some of the dubs would be happy to pay $100.00 just for 2 months of door to door....lol

Paying interest on a Kingdom Hall loan, is it interest or mortgage ???
by run dont walk ini have read several threads where the general concession is, a new kingdom hall being built that needs a loan is usually 3 % .
let's say this is true (for the sake of arguement).
now i just renewed my mortgage at 5 % interest, sounds great doesn't it, but the first 5 years 50% of your money is going to interest and 50 % to principal, because the bank makes you pay the interest first.

A mortgage or loan is exactly the same. The interest is always calculated on the remaining balance at the time of payment. Basically, a 5% loan or mortgage for a period of 5 years will cost you the same if you respect the payment due dates. In other words, using your car loan example, if this were a mortgage under the same interest rate and lenght (5 years) you would pay exactly the same amount in interest for both.
The reason why a mortgage appears to be more expensive is simply because the maturity date is much further away. Mortgages extend to 15, 20 , 30 years, so the time needed to pay your principal is longer and reflects on the monthly payment amount. It appears and does cost more because you agree to give less each month on the principal since you will extend this to a long period of time, paying interest on a longer period of time.
Here are some numbers for you.....
Loan 1: $20,000, 5%, 5 years, total paid (22,645.20) interest paid (2645.20) payment (377.42)
Loan 2: $20,000, 5%, 15 years, total paid (28,468.80), interest paid (8468.80) payment (158.16)
Notice how your payment is less for the longer loan. It takes in account the lenght of time you agree to pay back. You pay more interest because you finance for a longer period of time.

PR....Talking about politics is very much part of my JW heritage, as I was told to not talk about it then. BTW, this debate of American politics is part of most boards today, so this board is not an exception. It really annoys me when you guys say that you'd give your life for my freedom. War in Iraq has little to do in protecting freedom here in North America. But since the US has chosen to create further unrest in the world, I guess maybe you'll have to fight for your freedom after all. From what I read not too many around the world agree with your politics, and from the words of Powell and Bush a few days ago in regards to Iran, it is OK to protest the policies of your leaders. So what's good for the clerics in Iran, is also good for the Bush gang.

I remember way back when they would say that they responded to crisis' before the world's humanitarian aid arrived. Truckloads upon truckloads.
Why wasn't it publicized? They would use the verse...."what your right hand does, don't let your left hand know" (something like that).
I wonder how much they really gave to the poor?

The US is only fighting their wars to secure their investments. They don't say it cause it would reveal their true self. And greed is not a noble reason enough to beat the shit out of the unsubordinates who refuse to funnel money their way.
You can claim any other reason for war if you wish. Men fight wars to make money or to not give their money away.
If you claim the US is champion of freedom then they should definitely find other ways to help people, killing the very people they wish to help is equal to how terrorist networks fight their wars. No difference there at all.
If you have to watch your back, it's cause you've been up to no good.

Teenyuck....I have to totally agree.
It takes balls to kill another man. It takes balls to fight for a piece of land. And it takes balls to fight for inequality just so you can exploit your fellow man so you can own more than him.
Men are the plague, especially when driven by financial agendas.
Sad, very sad.

If National security is the issue, why are we not in N. Korea right now dismantling their nuclear program? Or even Iran?
You guys said that Iraq had WMD, but I'm interested to know, what were the indications that they were a threat to the US, more than any other country? Geez, they couldn't even defend themselves at home. How did the US conclude that Iraq would attack them?
If you use the argument that Saddam would've sold those weapons to terrorists, well you have a serious problem, cause most countries have such weapons. Besides, the terrorists didn't use them on 9-11, why I must ask?
Protecting the US from attacks is not a hard thing to do. They have oceans on both sides, just put the army on both shores, inspect every little package that comes in, and voila, you're protected from unsuspecting attacks using WMD. A lot easier than running around the planet like a chicken with it's head cut off trying to locate threats.
Also, if they feel the need to protect themselves, ask yourself why? What has the US done that deserves such hatred? There must be a reason.
