"Portland 7" xJW gets 18 years sentence
by Gerard ina dramatic sentencing hearing -- in which one defendant broke down into tears and the other burst into song -- ended monday morning with u.s. district judge robert e. jones denouncing patrice lumumba ford and jeffrey leon battle as "first-class traitors to this country.
ford and battle, each sentenced to 18 years in prison, were the first defendants among the so-called "portland seven" to be sentenced for their now-admitted conspiracy to support afghanistan's fundamentalist government, the taliban.
they are the only members of the portland seven who refused to cooperate with the government in exchange for lighter sentences.

Some info: the guy was never baptized. It was his mother who was a Witness. She lost control of her son and this is what she gets.

This year has been a, somewhat, good year for JWs. In the past years There has been a greater number of people being baptized, but also a greater decline. This year there are less baptisms, but a less of a decline. The gap is closing, which is a good thing for them. Yes, for example: Australia, Japan, Belgium..etc. experienced this year a less of a decline and even a growth although there has been FEWER people getting baptized. People left the organization in FEWER numbers this year--a trend in the past years. But it's the newer ones who are not coming in as they used to. The death/inactive/DF toll should be of 2% and yet they increased by 2.2%

Can someone please explain
by blacksheep ini've been out of the org so long that my memory is fading as to exactly what their rationale is for not celebrating thanksgiving.. i was speaking to my dad, whose not a jw but a supporter of it (for my mom's sake), and he was for some reason informing me of my mom and his attempts next week to take a relative (for whom they are caretakers) up to visit my aunt and uncle (several 200 miles away) for thanksgiving.
but he made sure to inform me how my mom and he would not eat with them (they'd go somewhere, like a movie, for a while).
again, forgive me, i've been out too long.

Will the person be celebrating the holiday? Or will the person take advantage of it to spend time together because of being a long weekend?
Eating a meal on this day is not wrong. But a JW should always pray afterwards

Apostate organizations, will they take down the religion?
by spiritwalker inone of the main themes i have noticed to former jehovah?s witnesses boards, is the mentioning of apostate jehovah?s witness organizations and publications.
while i realize the reason behind these organizations, i also see them as far less powerful then many would like to think.
not that their efforts are wasted, as i know many take a lot of passion and time to their work.

They are seen as a cult
Oh, please. Sure some people think that, but most do not.
However, I have also learned, that many of my friends have very high and higher opinions of Mormon children and employees too. You will never see that in a Watchtower.
There are multiple more apostates in numbers of Mormsons that of JW's.

Any witnesses actually talking about this?
by freedom96 inregarding talk of 2034, is there anyone who has talked to an active witness about this?
is this the latest talk amongst the congregations, or are we reading into this way too much?.
is there any witnesses out there that are actually buying this?

WHen I read about 2034 here, I couldn't belive it was an issue worth discussing about. I'm sure that article means nothing prophetic to JWs.

As you know, JW's only count active members to their figures. But if they were to at least count how many Sympathizers there are and the influence they have in people's lives, they can count the Memorial figures, and maybe even more. Many religions count as members even those who don't attend church. 200,000/250,000 JW and Sympathizers is right at the mark. They can say they are the 3rd largest Christian religion in France. According to the census, they also the third largest religion in Chile and in the Chezh Republic. And the second largest in Italy and Spain. And in some countries like Finland, they outnumber Roman Catholics.
