You are certainly not thie first person who had decided to stop studying with JWs. There many tens of millions who have and only a small fraction progress to baptism.

About pedophiles. How many pedophiles know that JWs have a '"2 person witness rule"? How can they be attracted tothe JW lifestyle?-

JWs believe that they are Christians but other Christian religions are not? I can’t understand the reasoning on this one.

They believe they are the true Christians, but know what the word 'christian' means in the dictionary.

Only baptised JWs will survive Armageddon (this is what I’ve picked up from lurking here for a bit – correct me if I’m wrong?)
Only Jehovah's worshippers will make it into the New World.

The whole disfellowshipped shunning thing is unchristian. It freaks me out that wife bashers and child abusers can be readily forgiven and people who communicate their doubts can be disfellowshipped. Go figure.

- Open you Bible again. Din't the founder of Chrstianity himself let his followers know to not associate with people who left the congregation?

ikewise the Christmas celebration is not mentioned; it doesn’t mean that Jesus’ family on earth would have plain forgotten about his birthday when he was a child. In biblical days there were no telephones, therefore they are not mentioned in the Bible, does this mean that using telephone are forbidden? I think not.

No other holiday is probably more worldy that this one.

It remindes me of this case.

While in field service, an elderly Sister preached to this man. After insulting her and telling her to get out of his property, he calls his dog Jehovah and orders the dog to attack the Sister, who was on her way out. The dog runs after her, suddenly stops half way there, makes half a turn and kills the owner!

This by the way is a real story and can be verified.

Can someone help me to understand?

i am very new to this whole "religion" and although i have pulled up some information on jehovah's witnesses, i can't seem to get my arms around it.

the reason i have come here is because my father has been doing bible studies and readings for about 2 years now and over the last 6 months to a year he has been someone very different from who i used to know.

it all started with a near fatal car accident and then with my sister getting involved with drugs and running away with her boyfriend.

Why would an "active witness" not say it's OK to have a real career?

\Why not just look into the matter yourself to see what is the truth?

Great advice. Since Sirona is shoving no good answers down people's throats, why not talk to Witnesses personally? Instead of listening to biased opinions.

What I am having a hard time understanding is if being a Jehovah's Witness is what has brought him to this idea? Is there anything within the religion that says that being financially successful is wrong

Absolutely not! And it has nothing to do with religion. Have a straight talk with your father. Ask him why the changes? Maybe he needs help from his own family.

thank you for your inquiries regarding the barbara anderson vs. watchtower tennessee appellate court hearing, which took place on thursday, april 14, 2005. accompanied by steve and joy imhof, from panama city beach, florida, and our attorney, jerre hood, from winchester, tennessee, we drove to nashville to attend the 1:00 p.m. scheduled appellate hearing.

this hearing was requested last year by defendants in the case, and they are: the numerous corporations of watchtower bible and tract society; watchtower spokespersons, j. r. brown, and david semonian, and certain elders of the manchester, tn congregation of jws.

1) Bill Bowen asserts that "the Watchtower Society protects child molestors by its policies".
(2) Bill Bowen presumably asserts "the Jehovah's Witnesses are a destructive cult".
Does (1) have anything to do with (2)? Maybe and maybe not. The point needs to be discussed and established by documented proof

Wednesday night a fellow from the Southern Baptist Convention talked with my church and said that 2758 people (the number enrolled in our SS classes) is about all we can accomodate in uor present buildings and we are either going to plateau at that number or build/acquire more space. Our sanctuary will only accomodate around 3000 people and it is usually overflowing on Sunday mornings.

The Southern Baptist Convention is one of the slowest-growing churches in America. 50% of the members don't step in that church for at least a year.

I am glad positive things have come out of this.

How do you feel about Bill Bowen using his position as the spokesman of Silentlambs, an organisation for child abuse victims, to crush the WatchTower by talking about other issues that has nothing to do with child abuse? (example anti-cult seminars, Vh1 Special...)

Selena and her 'JW' father

from what i know, selena's father, abraham, has been inactive for many, many years.

abraham's father was also a witness.

i've heard him say recently what makes him go through life after her death and said its his hope in the resurection.

I've heard him say recently what makes him go through life after her death and said its his hope in the resurection. My parents friends met Abraham and his wife at an assembly in Texas, now a few years ago. Selena was a believer and had attended meetings. They had a JW funeral for her.

Now, who ever is familiarized with Selena and saw her tribute concert Thursday night, I have question for you.

Don't you think the father is obsessed with her dead daughter?

As of today, not a member of her family has touched Selena's bed after her death. It's exactly the way she left it. Abraham has been working really hard to keep Selena's image alive,which he has. For the last couple of years, he worked to put on a concert which aired Thursday night . And DANG, what that a concert! The biggest concert for a U.S. Spanish-TV special. The stadium was full of fans. For anybody who saw it knows that these people were worshipping Selena. Selena lives!, they kept saying. Seated was Abraham. Silent, but proud of his work. Does anybody else think he is truly obsessed?

Why remember the bad treatment?

there are people who have had bad experiences and don't look back.

but many people on this forum remember it and post about it almost, if not, everyday.

personally, i've had my share of bad moments.

When you "forget" about the bad stuff or pretend it doesn't exist, you are sending a message to people who have experienced real harm that their suffering is meaningless.

I meant why people like to talk about it everyday, and may have have lengthy discussions about it. I agree. Forgetting a tragedy can be harmful.
