i was just wondering if it is true that all custody cases have to be reported to the watchtower?if so,is it so they can give the jw legal help?.

Things may have changed but it used to be that all custody matters where religion was being raised as an issue were to be sent to the Society.

If they felt it of significant urgency they would provide legal assistance to the local lawyer regarding the religious issues.

If there are no religious restraints being requested, Bethel is not supposed to get involved in any way.

looks like the letter writting campaign has paid off !!!!!!!!!!!!

the jw's have dropped costs, and there will be no exchange of money.

(which, yes, means i still will not receive my huge $5000.00 judgement) (thanks judge molloy!?

The presses are rolling with this. Hopefully the optics will bite them in the ass. Or maybe if they are smart (WT SPIES PLEASE READ) they will announce in the media how they are happy with the victory and will not make Vicki pay. This would be the smartest PR move they could make. In their arrogance they won't but it would be great optics for them. HINT HINT WATCHTOWER Maybe doing the right thing once this decade will be a salve to your consciences.

Thank you to any who contributed in getting out the message in the letter writing campaign. I know that some people at all xJW boards assisted in doing this. The letter writing campaign removed their option of making this a media event for the Borg. They can't admit that they were swayed by public opinion. They had their chance to come out smelling like roses, but they blew it and smell more like fertilizer.

I am just glad some of the pressure is now off Scott & Vicki.

Congrats to both you and Scott!!!

This is at least a lighter load now. You still have Charlie's bill to worry about and hopefully something can be worked out in that regard.

I really hope this takes away so much of the stress you have been enduring. I'll give you a call early in the week.

Are you happy with your last salary increase?

working in the it industry pay increases have been historicly good.

this weeks computerword www.computerworld.com has an piece on the salary squeeze.

for my job the average increase nationwide is 2%.

Not even close enough to make me smirk never mind keep me happy.

Which is why I put in my 2-week notice last week and am going to go work for a major SOB.. me.

Off to the entrepreneurial world I go.

At least this way I will be responsible for how much/little I get paid.

So far most of the conversation has been about the legality of the charge itself and methods used. SO I am not sure why the leap.

No-one has suggested that he shouldn't be tried for the charge. But anyone who has spent time in a court room knows that when it comes to conflicting testimony, a judge (or jury) has to make a determination of who is the more credible witness.

Unless there is evidence to show otherwise, courts do tend to believe a cop's testimony over the accused. The accused usually has a greater motive to lie.

No fantasy world for me. I readily admit some cops do cut corners and some do lie in order to accomplish their objectives.

"Most?" That is a very strong sweeping statement and condemnation. It is the sweeping generalization that I wanted you to back with facts of some kind. Individual examples (even several) does not equate with "most."

But frankly it boils down to this, I would rather believe a police officer over some 41 year old guy who gets his rocks off chatting to young boys. But hey that's just me.

Why Is It That Some People Can Always Get Away With Stuff?

did you ever notice how some people always seem to get out of things and others always get caught?

too many times, 2 people would get into trouble but only 1 would get reproved for it while the other person either got a wrist slap or even denied they were involved.

i've seen a sister tell the elders she got involved in immorality, got privately reproved, got restrictions upon her,etc.

Life isn't fair. To expect otherwise is foolish - an Uzzah axiom

It is the way things are everywhere. Business, school, religions, social networks.

Why can one person in an office be habitually late, but another employee gets reprimanded for it happening once?

Why does the cute girl get preferential treatment over the plain looking one?

Why does a tall man automatically get instant respect in the business world yet a short man needs to prove himself? (this one was for Maverick)

Why does one person get disfellowshipped for fornication and the other person get private reproof?

The answer to all the above is favouritism, nepotism, simony, and/or prejudice.

It ain't right. It ain't fair but that is the way it is right now. Admitting that means you can then be prepared for it and work around it.

From the article:

Mark Mej, 41, was arrested after police say he was attempting to pick up an officer who posed as a boy over the Internet.
Police say they had numerous telephone and Internet conversations with Mej over a 30-day period.

If these were simply harmless conversations, there would not be any need for charges.

Just like a "john" that is cruising for hookers, this guy was apparently cruising for sexual chats with young boys. He just happened to have 30 days worth of them with a police officer posing as a child online. It is no more entrapment than the undercover cop posing as a hooker.

He was not charged for having fantasies. He was charged because he actively involved a minor in a sexual way.

sexual interference or carnal knowledge (activity) with a child is a crime.

The activity does not have to be physical.

I am all for protecting civil rights, but any sexual activity with a child be it verbal, suggestive or physical is wrong.

A better analogy to what was provided earlier would be that the cops are following a speeding vehicle and the person decides to try and escape. He had already committed an offense and made a decision to increase the stakes.

This particular individual decided to limit how illegal his actions were by not acting on his fantasies. But he had still committed a crime.
