It's going to be almost 50 degrees here tomorrow! If enough snow melts, me and the hubby may do some Geo-caching tomorrow!

After reading this thread yesterday, I was telling my boss about the Smurf urban legend. She was raised in the "Assemblies of God" church, which, as much as I know about them, is a "watered down" version of the Pentecostal church. "Charismatic" I think is the term. Anyway, my boss said she wasn't allowed to watch The Smurfs either as a child because they cast "spells". Any kind of magic is a "no no" with that religion, too, which surprised me. Also, they frown on Halloween activities and the children cannot go trick-or-treating.
She also told me that her church strongly believes in demon possession and said that she saw someone possessed by a demon first hand. She said it wasn't like The Exorcist, but scary anyway.
My point to all this is that there ARE other religions that have fanatical tendencies. What I find extremely amusing is that my boss is quick to call the JW's a cult, but can't see the similarities with her church.

.......and, yes, I post at work. I have a "privacy screen" on my computer so no one can walk into my office and catch me surfing the 'net!

I work for a toothbrush and dental floss factory, in the Human Resources department. I can either be a good guy or a bad guy depending on your situation. People generally don't like being called to my office, though. I wonder why?

JW Urban Legends
by ZeroKool29 ini was once told that john denver (folk singer of songs like rocky mountain high and such) was on the tonight show one night.
he was a huge patriot and apparently had no love whatsoever for jw's.
apparently as the story goes, john gets up to sing a patriotic song and before he begins tells the audience "if there are any jehovah witnesses in the audience, you may want to leave right now.

Back in the 70's, my mother heard a rumor that Glen Campbell had been baptized into the JW's. Her and a couple of her friends eagerly bought tickets to his concert the next time he rolled into town. I must have been only 10 or 11 years old, but I remember mom coming home from the concert VERY traumatized and upset. She said to me, "WELL, I can tell you that Glen Campbell is NOT a Jehovah's Witness." Apparently, he had sung some "suggestive" songs and he did something on stage that shocked her.
Thinking back on it, how HYSTERICAL to think that Glen Campbell was a JW!
I'm glad I never told her what went on at rock concerts that I attended just a few years later.....

Kingdom Hospital
by Ghosthunter inhas anyone seen the previews for this new stephen king series yet?
it starts on march 3 and looks awesome!
after the miniseries "it", back in the early nineties, stephen king finally realized that his writing is better suited to a television series than confined to a two-hour movie.

Country Girl - Don't feel bad, "It" scared the crap out of me too! Can't stand to even LOOK at a clown now! Rose Red scared me, too. I ought to pick that up on DVD. Liked the original "The Shining" (nothing like Jack Nicholson), but the TV version was way closer to the book. I remember when I saw The Shining in the theater the first time, I was disappointed that they turned the hedge animals into the hedge maze. I also liked Rebecca DeMornay a LOT better than Shelley Duvall.

Any more Stephen King fans out there? Favorite book? Mine is "The Stand".

Older JW's and DF'd children
by Ghosthunter inanyone that has read my posts, knows that i am only child and that i have had a strained relationship at best with my mother since my dfing in the early 80's.
now that my mother is getting up in years, what happens if she falls ill and needs to be cared for on a daily basis?
i lie awake at night thinking about this.

I lie awake at night thinking about this. Not only am I DF'd and her association with me is limited, but we are at least 5 hours away geographically. Basically, I am her only family besides two sisters that are up there in years as well. Does she expect the people in her congregation to care for her? I've learned from this board that's probably not going to happen.
Do I just stick her in a nursing home and let them drain away the rest of any money she might have? Do I insist she move closer to me so I can look in on her, despite my status with the JW's?
If anyone has run into this situation, I would appreciate your comments. Thanks.

Favorite childhood TV shows
by Nosferatu innow, i'm not referring to sesame street, mr. rogers, or any of the educational kids' shows.
i'm talking about the ones for pure entertainment, cartoons and such.
however, i can't really classify this as purely cartoons since some of you might have watched things like hr pufnstuf.. i grew up in the 1980s, when the magic of saturday morning cartoons existed.

Scooby Doo! (go figure)
I also LOVED to watch "Land of the Lost" on Saturday mornings. Marshall, Will and Holly (on a routine expedition) and the Sleestaks! This was back in the day when my mom was "weak" and we didn't go out in service much.

has anyone heard (or seen) any comments from witnesses about the december 15, 2003 watchtower that seems to be to be pointing to 2034 as possible date for the end of this system of things?

I'll be 74 years old. I don't think I'll really care by then. With the number of young people dropping like flies, I doubt there will be anyone ELSE around to care, either.
