Yep, I'm talking about the KH on 21st Street. Irvington, Arlington Heights and at some point Eastgate. I remember the Kleine's, but not the other two. The biggest family in the Eastgate Cong. were the Deerburg's. Half the cong. was inter-related to them.
I'm almost 40, so this would have been in the 70's.

Grew up on the east side of town, out towards Washington Square Mall. Went to Warren Central High School. Attended Irvington before it split off to become "Arlington Heights". Got DF'd from the Eastgate congregation. Haven't lived in Indy for almost 15 years now, but miss it every day.

I know there are some of you out there from Indiana (US). Did you know that Indiana is the home of the People's Temple? The Jim Jones cult. In fact, he started out in a little town called Lynn, Indiana which is only a few miles from my mother's home town. When I was a teenager, I remember my mother pointing out a building in downtown Indianapolis that was the first "church" of Jim Jones and his followers. That event in the 70's still weighs heavily on my mind and was the turning point in which I started thinking that I was perhaps involved in cult.
There are a lot of "notorious" people from Indiana that I can think of off the top of my head: Dillenger, Michael Jackson, Axl Rose, Bobby Knight......

After several years of trying to get my mother to get an e-mail account, I may have finally succeeded. She always backed off on the subject because "The Society" (bleh) has pronounced the internet as EVIL . I took the liberty to set up a free Yahoo account for her and I sent her explicit instructions on how to check her e-mail with minimal exposure to the EVIL internet. She seems to be excited about it and I hope we can communicate "guilt free" through e-mail. Wish me luck!

there's this place here in town called "babe's".
its soooooooooooooooo good, but the only drawback is that the hamburger is more grease and fat than it is meat.
they'll actually take the dripping fat with the spatula and throw it back in the burger and start smashing it in.
I agree with Tatiana. WHITE CASTLE. Don't have them here in Western Michigan, but they are certainly all over Indiana. We used to call them "gut bombs" or "sliders". BUT, they were extremely tasty at 3:00 in the morning after the bars closed!

i haven't taken a shower, my hair's up in a pony-tail and i'm cleaning the house.
my dogs start going wild and i look out the window to see a four-door car pull up in my driveway.
Oh, they knew I was there. The garage door was open and both vehicles were sitting there. I'm pretty sure they saw me standing in the window looking to see who was in my driveway!
I LOVE all the suggestions! My husband was mad that he missed them. He said the next time, he was going to take my eyeliner and draw a pentagram on his forehead and tell them they were interrupting his "summoning of the devil" ritual and watch them run!

Here it is, Sunday morning. I haven't taken a shower, my hair's up in a pony-tail and I'm cleaning the house. My dogs start going wild and I look out the window to see a four-door car pull up in my driveway. As soon as I see someone in a suit open the door, I knew who was visiting. Unfortunately, I didn't have a speech prepared and I just didn't answer the door. My husband was in the shower, or he would have taken the two to TASK!
It's my fault, though, let me explain. Two years ago, two sisters showed up at my door and I answered it. I explained that I had been disfellowshipped for many years and that I was not interested in going back to the KH. That set off a series of "elder visits" to my door. The first time they came, my husband politely, but firmly, told them to leave. I was (literally) having a panic attack and made him answer the door. The second time they came, my husband was just plain mad and told them, not so politely, that if they didn't leave immediately he would have them arrested for trespassing. They left. That was about a year or so ago.
I'm pretty sure the ones that showed up today were elders. I wish I wasn't such a chicken-sh*t and answered the door myself and told them off. Damn!

Just found out that a woman that works in my plant gave up her three children (one is a newborn baby) to move in with her new boyfriend, a convicted CHILD MOLESTER. Obviously, terms of his probation dictate that he cannot be around children.
