I'm not much into horse racing, being from Indiana and all I like basketball and auto racing. However, I just found out yesterday that my first cousin is going to be the "loader", at least I think that's the proper term, for Smarty Jones at the starting gate today! How cool is that?????

What Couldn't You Do on Meeting Nights?
by Nosferatu init's funny how new rules were made in the house that applied to meeting nights only.
one major one was no video games before the meeting.
my mother also tried to extinguish worldly music before meetings.

My mom and I always ate out on Thursday nights as she didn't get home from work until 5:30 and didn't have time to make a meal. I remember we BOTH rushed out right at 9:00 so we could make it home to watch "Cheers" at 9:30.

Being from Indiana myself, I know exactly where you're coming from! I make some AWESOME biscuits and sausage gravy! Love a good batch of grits and give me some chicken fried chicken or chicken fried steak any day!
Hoosiers ROCK! GO PACERS!

Why did they do this?
by Schizm inafter reading the following report, would you like to speculate on the reason why people do things like this?--schizm .

Kids can be so stupid when they are bored. Something similar to this happened last year in my area (West Michigan). The poor victim was a woman in her 50's who got hit square in the face with a brick thrown from an overpass. She was blinded and had to go through several surgeries on her face. The teenage boys responsible were caught and were severely punished by the court system. Having teenage boys myself, I felt sorry for the boy's parents as they were devastated by their children's actions. The woman, bless her heart, publicly forgave the boys, something I don't think I could have done.
Senseless crime.

Parents don't understand...
by überRabbit inmy parents just don't understand why i don't want to be part of the jehovah's witnesses organization.
it's not that i don't believe jesus' teachings, but i believe that the society has taken it too far.
they read too deep into god's words, that they end up putting training wheels on everyone.

UR - Welcome to the board!
I wholeheartedly agree with Sassy. Do NOT get baptized. It will be much, much easier for you if you don't. Don't make the mistake that I did, getting baptized to make others happy. If you don't get baptized, then your parents will still be able to talk to you without the guilt.

Contraband
by prophecor ini've always enjoyed the subtle, soothing sound of the wind chime, being in the organization however requires one to forsake such items because of their origin.
it has been linked to the ancients as a means of keeping away evil spirits.. upon leaving the organization, one of the first things i picked up upon was a wind chime.
i enjoy listening to its melodious tune when the wind blows in our back yard.

"smoking what I want to smoke"
I wish. My company does random drug testing. I guess it wouldn't be cool for a member of the Human Resources department to come up positive, would it?
I enjoy exploring the paranormal w/o feeling guilty or feeling like demons are going to attack me!

My brother is a JW, and I love him.
by earpick18 inmy name is sara, and my older brother is a jehovah's witness.
i stumbled this website when i was feeling upset about my brother's association with jws.
i just wanted to thank you so much for creating a website like this.

Hi Sara and welcome! You mentioned in your post that your brother wasn't 'book smart' and that he was unable to answer your questions and referred you to the elders. Unfortunately, this is probably why the JW's were able to get him in the first place. They look for people that may not be as 'smart' as others and people that are easily manipulated. Sad, isn't it?
The thing you do have going for you is that you are not, nor ever will be, a JW. While he will be encouraged to leave his 'worldly' family behind, he will never be forbidden to talk to you.
Is there something he may have enjoyed before joining that he doesn't do now? Maybe bring that up in a conversation and get him thinking about all the stuff he may be missing. Just a suggestion.
Good luck.

Does anyone from the central Indiana area remember the Perkins family? They attended the Eastgate congregation. Doris was the mother and she had two sons, Jimmy and Marty. I just read that Jimmy died (he was only 43). I remember him being a nice guy and wondered if anyone else knew the family.

Would you ever go back to an organized religion after leaving the Witnesses
by MicStroz ini was wondering just what the percentage would be on those who .
have left and at some point turn to another group or church.. i know from my own trials that i will never be a part of any.
organization.
-
Ghosthunter
Absolutely not. There is no place in my world for organized religion of ANY kind. My "church" is walking in the woods or watching a beautiful sunset over the lake.
