I had to submit to a drugs test yesterday.

i had to submit to a random work place drugs test yesterday, of which i passed.

in this country smoking marijuana / methamphetamine is illegal.

the thing that really struck me was that despite the illegal nature of it, was just how prevalent and problem is.

I'm not sure which country you are in, but marijuana is legal in Canada (to the best of my knowledge) and about half of the states in the US (either "medical" or recreational).

Here in Florida where medical marijuana is legal, you simply go to a doctor who advertises to give you the "card" for medical purposes and tell him/her you have anxiety, headaches, or some other problem and pay about $100. You walk out of the door with the card and can buy and use whatever you want.

It doesn't surprise me that so many people use it on the weekends, much like watching a football game with some friends and having a case of beer.

But I would guess that smoking some weed during a football game has a more calming effect than guys throwing beer cans at the TV when the other team scores.

Where is the best comprehensive NWT error list?

while there are many excellent web sites that explain a few jw nwt bible translation problems, are there any comprehensive lists of nwt scripture errors online please?.

The "older" ones here (I guess I fall into that category having now reached the big 60), remember when we had a paper-thin 3 or 4 page thing that we glued into our NWT's. It had the NWT rendering of a scripture in one column, the Authorized Version in another, and the Catholic Douay in another (I think they are the two other ones).

You used to use that when you were placing the NWT, typically in January if I remember correctly. It was to show how good the NWT was compared to the others.

I just remember a scripture in 1 Corinthians (I think) where the other versions said "everything sold in a shambles" and the NWT used the word "meat market" instead of shambles.

We used that, and other verses, to show how much better the NWT was and then hoped to place a bible.

Wow, that was a long time ago.

Ever notice a lot of JWs don't have pets?

i was told by several elders to not get a dog when i was looking for one in the 80s.

the end was close and we needed to focus on the preaching work.

i know some have pets but a lot don't.

I guess I was just being factual and honest. When I was a kid, we had a black labrador retriever that seemed to do it a lot when people came over. My mother would make the dog go outside.

I still gets the creeps when I see people kissing their dogs.

I think that many hard-line JW's don't like dogs since they will sit in front of people and lick their genitals.

(Now that I think about it, if I could do it, I probably wouldn't leave my house).

i read all the post even if some don't believe in god at all.

however, i do believe and anything i say on here is from the depths of my belief and knowledge.

The US did not attack Iran. Iran did not attack the US. But somehow we all get sucked into these proxy wars.

The US is not going to change these people. They are hard-wired in some odd way to just fight among themselves.

The US, Britain and France all fought each other back in the 1700's and 1800's. How many wars did the US fight against Britain back in the day?

But we got over it. Now we are all butt-buddies.

Does anyone see this happening among all the factions of Islam in the Middle East? In reality, they often hate each other (think apostates) more than they hate Western society (infidels).

Their brains just have different connections, work on different voltage or something.

After the death of a spouse, how long did people wait to get remarried?

i was on the phone with a long-time friend from my original congregation north of new york city and she told me that the 'shit hit the fan' when a brother (long-time elder i know well) got remarried about 6 weeks after his wife died.. he was about 60 and his new wife (a pioneer that i also know) was about 50 and had never been married.. it became a huge issue when the co came.

due to all the talk and chatter in the congregation, he even included in one of his talks without naming names, that marriage is something sacred and that when and how people get married is a personal matter as long as it conforms to bible standards.. anyway, it shut everybody up.

any similar experiences in your current/former congregations?.

My lady and I have made it plain to all our children that neither of us wishes for the surviving partner to remain in enforced loneliness for the rest of their life.

I really like that. If more people did that, it would certainly reduce a lot of unnecessary stress.

How Much of the WT Teaching Did You Believe?

some people on this forum have said that they never really believed any aspect of wt teaching, that they couldn't wait to get free of it all.. others seems to have been really gung ho, believing it all until something happened that got you questioning "the truth.".

i would say my own high water mark was about 50%, which put me squarely on the fence, trying to decide if i should be in or out.. how about you?.

I guess I would say, and still say around 60-70 percent. Most of that is mainly on subjective topics in which there is no definitive answer.

I really think they lost a lot of credibility in my eyes when they always blame errors in timing and dates on the zero year. Or when they say, Russel, Rutherford or whoever didn't take the zero year into consideration so their dates were off.

Come on, if it's your job to do all of this research and study the bible, how can you "miss" a year when calculating chronological events? Isn't that like a car mechanic saying that he didn't realize you need to put oil in an engine? He "missed" it?
