  - very intense sun here but I only have minimal level for vision safety and don't think it helps much.

  You said it. If you have a minimal level of tinting, it's really not helpful.

  When you mentioned your "dealer" (I am assuming car dealer) they will typically not have anything that is too dark. Too much legal exposure, at least here in Florida.

  Here, there are hundreds of local tint shops all over the place (I got my car done via a Groupon discount). They give you whatever you want.

  i remember when i was a kid in the early 70s that we always had a baseball game or picnic where they would get together and bring a dish to pass.

  every summer there was one or more.

  we had canoe picnic parties and camp fires ect.

  in a recent post about the watchtower’s claim that all animals were created as vegetarians, one commenter said that watchtower could no longer sustain this belief so they simply stopped talking about it.

  i began thinking about other wacky doctrines and statements by the borg that have faded away.

  i’ll offer two of them below, but the complete list must be longer than your arm.. 7000 year-long creative days: watchtower once taught that each of the creative days was 7,000 years in duration, hence the hype leading up to 1975. they believed that year marked 6,000 years since adam’s creation, and oh how nicely the 1,000-year reign would fit as the last piece of the puzzle, thus completing the final “day”.

  The TV "Mr. Ed" that I recall was not a documentary but an American sit-com..

  It seemed very real to me. He was smart and only spoke to Wilbur.

  I'm not sure about donkeys, but there was a documentary series on TV that I remember called Mr. Ed. He was a talking horse. But he would only talk to his owner named Wilbur Post.

  I think this helps prove the point that in certain situations, animals can talk.

  Well, i would argue that police should enforce all laws on the books. In a way that's what separates us from third world countries.

  I guess then we are a third world country here since marijuana is federally illegal but most states now permit it.

  I agree. Ohio is much different than Florida.

  If you leave your car closed here with un-tinted windows, you can get to 130 to 140 degrees if not higher. Children left for a few minutes here are often the victims with stupid parents.

  The US just has many different areas.

  Drug-Sniffing Dogs Getting Retired at Airports

  i found this interesting in the news that dogs used to sniff for drugs at airports are being significantly cut back here in the us due to the increased legality of marijuana at the state level (though technically still illegal at the federal level) and passengers arriving from canada.

  a large number of the dogs are being put into early retirement.. i learned that dogs can be trained to sniff for drugs but once they "learn" a smell, they cannot unlearn it.

  basically, there is no difference to them between marijuana or cocaine or meth.

  Here in Florida, virtually every car has tinted windows, and I would guess well over 50% are tinted illegally dark.

  When I bought a new car several years ago, I went to one of the big tint shops and they gave me the options. The first thing the guy said was do you "need the legal ones" or the "standard" ones.

  I didn't go totally dark, but still much beyond what is technically legal. But then, the only cars on the street that appear to be legal are likely rental cars. About one out of ten cars here is so dark that you cannot possibly see anything inside.

  Police don't give a rat's behind here about tinted windows. Virtually every police car you see here has illegally tinted windows.

  Remember, we have a lot of sun here ... the Sunshine State.

  Languages, Dialects, Accents

  just though i'd start a thread devoted to languages, dialects/sociolects and accents, with the idea being that posters can comment on any language, or dialect or accent of any language, on this thread.. any phrases, expressions or idioms that you find interesting are also welcome.

  first, the subject of english accents came up on another thread.. the british isles have many different types of accent (although many of the dialects may be dying out), and if i start to take a closer look, i can't help but see 'patterns' .... in received pronunciation of standard english, the letter r is pronounced initially, between vowels, and after consonants, e.g.

  red, arrow, break.

  I think you have it backwards. It's the British (especially older ones) that begin sentences with eeeeeehhhhhhhh.
