I understand the federal aid better now. The federal help, as I understand it, relates to businesses with less than 500 people so Trump's Doral Resort here has more employees than that and apparently not eligible for help.

just reported today that 560 were laid off at trump's doral resort / golf club here in the miami area.
up the road from me, one of trump's major resorts (the one he plays golf at a lot) is laying off most of the staff.. i am surprised since there is that federal support for businesses that if you don't lay off your employees, you get government support.

Interesting. Just reported today that 560 were laid off at Trump's Doral Resort / Golf Club here in the Miami area. Up the road from me, one of Trump's major resorts (the one he plays golf at a lot) is laying off most of the staff.
I am surprised since there is that Federal support for businesses that if you don't lay off your employees, you get government support. Maybe since this is one of Trumps own investments (not just a naming-rights thing like some of his places are), this does not qualify under the Federal guidelines. I don't know.
It was a crap when the PGA pulled out of Doral after Trump made all of those anti-Mexican comments about them being murderers and rapists. Cadillac pulled out sponsorship and ironically they moved that stop on the PGA tour to Mexico City. My wife and I used to go every year on the final day (Sunday). My wife was into getting autographs of the players. She has 30 or 40 of some of the top players. I think she has Phil Mickelson's several times including one of her hats. But no more.
The place reportedly lost significant value since Trump has had it but is still seems odd to me that he would let such a visible thing occur on a place with his name on it. Odd, very odd.

I brought something similar up with an elder once. I asked about the flood of Noah's time. According to the Bible, the earth was covered by a canopy holding massive amounts of moisture, hence the flood.
So if man had not been so sinful and there was not a flood, would we never have seen the sun? Or another way of thinking, what was the purpose of all of that potential rain sitting above our heads?
Of course, no answer.

Earth Boxes - Has Anyone Here Tried to Use Them to Grow Vegetables
by RubaDub inwith some extra time on my hands (putting it mildly), i decided to try planting some vegetables using these things called earth boxes.
they are basically rectangular tubs with the soil suspended a few inches from the bottom using a screen and you put water into the bottom and you just add water through a tube to the bottom and the plants get their water from beneath instead of adding water from the top.
then you put a plastic covering around the plants so that weeds don't grow.

As Still T ADD mentioined, the soil here in Florida, in many places, is really not conducive to good gardening. That is why I am going with the "Potting Mix" and not the "Potting Soil" which is basically topsoil.
Central Florida is different from South Florida which is different from North Florida which is different from the panhandle of Florida. Florida is a very long State. Drive from Key West to Pensacola and it is nearly 1,000 miles, almost the distance from Miami to New York.
Apples, peaches and pears are grown in the north, a lot of citrus fruits are grown more in the central parts and tropical fruit such as mangos, papayas and guayabas are grown in the south. So much depends on where in Florida you plan to move to. But in general, the further north you are in the State, the closer the growing seasons will be to what is typical in the rest of the Southeast. It all depends on where you are in the State.

Again, middle of the road Rub a Dub dismisses (in general) what happened many years ago. Times have changed. Thought patterns have changed, what is permissible under current standards have changed ... it's just the way it is. Even our actions have changed. Those who can remember, the last few rows of an airplane were reserved for smokers and with the recirculation of the air, everyone on board got to enjoy the second hand smoke. Light a cigarette on an airplane today and you will have federal officers escorting you off the plane.
One of my elderly relatives laughs at what she hears on the news today. She says, yes, when I was alone in an elevator with my boss, he would pat be on my backside and it was just the way it was. I didn't think much about it ... he was just being a man.
A lot of the stuff people say 25, 35 or more years ago would be totally inappropriate today. If you are in an office today and do that stuff, you will be escorted to the HR office in about 10 seconds.
Call a black person "colored" today and it may considered an insult even though there is an organization that has been in existence for decades called the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). Try that name today!
Tell a dirty joke in an office years ago, people laughed or just smiled and continued working. Do that today, and expect a trip to HR.
You can't really equate what happened that long ago to today's standards. Like it or not, we are more aware and politically correct regarding what we hear and what we say.
