The problem for career politicians like Biden is that they have voting records over many years. Unless it is a "clean" bill to vote on (only one item on the bill which is rare), there is a hodgepodge of things you like and don't like. Put 10 things in a bill that you like and 10 things you don't like and then do a yes/no vote on it. You immediately have a public voting record. It's the way the system works.

Put two things into a bill 1) Provide money for victims of domestic abuse 2) Require a long waiting period on purchasing a gun. Take your yes/no vote: You now have a voting record. Good luck. Someone won't like it.

Vote for it, you are against the NRA. Vote against it, you are against victims of domestic abuse.

I am a bit concerned about people like you that hold such opinions. But I do have a chapter (chapter 7) in my new book coming out in several months that deals specifically with that point.

JWs are allowed to take drugs (even things like opiods & marijuana) if they are prescribed by a doctor.

I know that is generally the policy.

But it would be interesting to see how the Society responds to medical marijuana here in South Florida. Since it is now legal, there are ads in the local magazines to "get your marijuana card". You basically go to one of doctors listed, pay a little (as little as $75), tell them you have anxiety or something on the approved list, and walk out with your card, good for 6 months. It's just a scam.

But then, technically, it was prescribed by a doctor!

This will not go away, especially in the US. As long as I can remember, it was considered that the couple had not had sex when she wore white. Maybe it has changed. But just like certain "pagan" things are acceptable (i.e. wedding rings), the white is supposed to show cleanliness and purity.

But then, many people today wear white anyway even though they may have been living together for years.

Whatever.

we hear daily "a woman or color".

one person here mentioned that nikki haley (parents are from india) is a woman of color.. what defines "woman of color?

White = European, or European descent.

As TD put it, Europe is a very large place. So much of Europe contains people that we once used to call "olive or Mediterranean skinned" meaning white with a nice rub of olive oil and lay in the sun for the afternoon. Very attractive to many people.

The same with Africans. Africa is a large place. You can be an African-American from Egypt or Morocco in the north, Nigeria or Congo in the middle, or have British roots and be from South Africa (and play a lot of golf).

As has been mentioned, with transportation what it is today, people tend to be more homogeneous. Even in my case, grandparents from northern Europe, me here, and I marry a Columbian who has two grandparents from Spain. Her grandmother was whiter than a bed sheet with pitch black hair, not uncommon among Spaniards.

I guess the whole "color" thing may be less of an issue as we all eventually get "tan".
